Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably manufacture caterpiller graphite cast iron by adding a graphite form regulating agent consisting of rare earth elements, Ca and Mg to molten cast iron contg. Si<1.0%.
CONSTITUTION: To molten cast contg. C; 2.0W4.0%, Mn<1.0%, P<0.1%, S< 0.01% and Si<1.0% is added 0.75W1.25% of Fe-Si consisting of Mg; 4.5%, Ca; 1.5%, rare earth elements; 1.5%, Si; 45% and Fe; the balance. Graphite in the cast iron is turned to caterpiller graphite to enhance the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation of a casting. By regulating the Si content of the cast iron to below 1.0%, caterpiller graphite cast iron of high reliability in quality is manufactured without adding a graphite spheroidizing inhibiting element such as Ti.
