Abstract
PURPOSE:Powdered CaC2, carbonates and hydroxides of Ca and Mg and carbon are mixed in a specified ratio to obtain a molten iron desulfurizer suitable for upblow type desulfurization. CONSTITUTION:Powdered CaCO3, MgCO3, Ca(OH)2, Mg(OH)2 are mixed so that carbonate-to-hydroxide molar ratio is 0.4 to 1.5 and Ca to Mg molar ratio is 1 to 4. The mixture of 70 to 85 parts by weight is mixed with 15 to 30 parts by weight of carbon powdere such as coke. The resulted mixture of 15 to 60 parts by weight is mixed with 40 to 85 parts by weight of CaC2 having grain size 85 to 105mu to provided a desulfurizer for molten iron. Carbonates and hydroxides of Ca and Mg decompose in such a wide range temperatures as 450 to 1000 deg.C, generating CO2 and steam which promote CaC2 to contact with an distribute into pig iron. Carbon produces reducing atomosphere to accelerate effective desulferization.
