Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce acrylamide or methacrylamide from acrylonitrile using specific acrylonitrile-assimilable microbials.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile is brought into contact with cells of bacteria belonging to Corynebacterium or Nocardia genus, and assimilable of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, e.g. Corynebacterium N-771, N-774, Nocardia N- 775, etc., treated cells, or cultured product. For example an aqueous suspension containing 1W10 wt% of bacterial cells and 0.5W5 wt% of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile are made to react at 25W30°C and pH7W9 for 0.5W10 hours.
