Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of burrs and overlap, and to improve the yield, by carrying out the taper removing and the deburring, when the steel ingot is rolled. CONSTITUTION:In case of rolling by the reversing type blooming mill, the first pass of rolling reduction is carried out with the steel ingot whose short side planes with small burrs 2 are placed on top and bottom, by inserting this ingot from the bottom side; hereupon, the taper removing is simultaneously performed. The second pass of rolling reduction is carried out by reversely rotating the mill, and by inserting the ingot from the top side; then, the third pass is carried out for the dummy pass by normally rotating the mill; and the fourth pass is carried out for rolling reduction and taper removing by reversely rotating the mill, and by 90 degrees turning the ingot so as to place the long side planes with large burrs 1 on top and bottom, and by inserting the ingot from the top side. The burrs 1 are folded outward of the bottom of ingot, so that the overlap is not generated. Then, the rolling reduction is carried out following to the usual pass schedule, for finishing the billet into the specified size. The generation of overlap due to the burrs is simply prevented only by contriving the insertion method for the ingot.
