Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title composition having improved low temperature flexibility without lowering the mechanical properties, by compounding 4-methylpentene polymer with a specific α-olefin oligomer.
CONSTITUTION: To prepare the title composition by mixing (A) 100 parts by weight of a stereospecific homo- or co-polymer of 4-methylpentene-1 with ethylene, etc., containing at least 60 wt.% of 4-methylpentene-1 unit and having a melt index of 1W100 and a density at 23°C of 0.82W0.85, and (B) 0.5W30 parts, esp. 1W20 parts of an α-olefin oligomer having a molecular weight of 300W1000, pref. 500W700, a recurring unit of 8W12C, and a vapor pressure of ≤10-2 mmHg at 100°C (esp. α-octene oligomer), at ≤290°C or in an inert atmosphere. Addition of (C) 5W200 parts of an flame retardant (e.g. antimony trioxide, etc.) to the composition further improves the mechanical properties, flexibility, and flame retardancy.
