Abstract

PURPOSE:To equalize the thickness of material layers in the furnace, eliminate channeling of rising gas in the furnace, and stabilize the furnace conditions, by matching the material charge start end position by the swivel chute for material charge in the blast furnace with the preceding material charge end position. CONSTITUTION:Materials such as iron ore, limestone, and coke are charged into a blast furnace from a hopper 1 by the way of a chute 3, vertical chute 4, and a swivel chute 5. While the materials are being charged, frictional sound is given off due to the contact between the materials and the chutes. This sound is measured by a detector 9, and the furnace charge end position of the materials is judged from the duration of the sound and the turning speed of the swivel chute 5. At the time of next material charge, the charge start position is matched with the previous charge end position, and charging of the materials is started. Thus, the start position of each material layer does not overlap with the end position of the previous charge, so that layers of uniform thickness may be formed. Therefore, since the furnace gas also rises evenly at the section of the furnace, the furnace may be operated in stable conditions.
