Abstract
PURPOSE: To permit a padding welding with a low dilution ratio and also to obtain stable arc by a procedure in which reverse polar plasma arc as a welding heat source is used and at the same time as a shield gas for the reverse polar plasma arc, a mixed gas composed of an inert gas and 0.1 to 1% oxygen is used.
CONSTITUTION: The reverse polar plasma arc 6 is formed by the DC welding power source 5 between the metal to be welded 1 and the non-consumption cell 2 and as the plasma working gas, the mixed gas 8 composed of the inert gas 7 and 0.0 to 1 % oxygen is applied as a shield gas, whereby the oxide film 11 on the surface of the metal 1 to be welded is removed by the cathode cleaning action of the reverse polar plasma arc 6 and thus the cleaning zone as clean ares is formed. Furthermore, in its inside, semi-molten zone 13 is formed and then the molten matal of the welding wire 9 flown into it and undergoes alloy-hardening to form the padding metal 10 on the thin boundary layer 14. Thus, it is possible to obtain stable reverse polar plasma arc and also to perform padding welding with a low dilution ratio.
