Abstract

PURPOSE: A high strength and high toughness steel most suitable as steel plate for pressure vessel in the homogenized and tempered state which is manufactured by the addition of a proper amount of an alloy element capable of reducing the amount of C and also of enhancing yield strength without damaging toughness.
CONSTITUTION: A steel, containing 0.01 to 0.12% C, 0W20 to 0.50% Si, 1.30 to 1.60% Mn, 0.10 to 0.30% Cu, 0.20 to 0.50% Ni, 0.10 to 0.30% Cr, 0.08 to 0.50% Mo, 0.04 to 0.10% V, 0.01 to 0.03% Nb, 0.02 to 0.06% Al, and remaining-Fe and having a Ceq value of 0.44 to 0.48, represented by the relationship Ceq = C + (Si/24) + (Mn/6) + (Ni/40) + (Cr/5) + (Mo/4) + (V/14) and a PCM value of less than 0.23, represented by the relationship PCM = C + (Si/30) + (Mn/20) + (Cu/20) + (Cr/20) + (Ni/60) + (Mo/15) + (V/10) + 5B, is subjected to a homogenizing and tempering treatment for application. The steel plate has a yielding point of more than 25 kg/mm2 at 350°C and a toughness level of vTs -46°C, and also is excellent in weldability. Thus, it is most suitable for pressure vessel.
