Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce compressed powdered-material of complicated shape easily, by packing molding tool made of plastic material such as wax with powdered material, and by molding the powder by hydrostatic press. at a temp. range at which the above-described plastic material exhibits suitable softness.
CONSTITUTION: For example, to produce universal joint cage made of sintered iron, a rubber die is made by pouring silicone rubber 6 in a frame 2 which suspends a prototype die 1 for the cage, then a wax pattern 15 is made successively through prescribed process. The cavity 16 of the wax pattern 15 is filled through a powder- charging opening 17 with metallic powder such as iron powder, the opening 17 is then closed by pouring molten wax. The wax pattern 15 packed with above-described metllic powder is heated to the plasticity range or softening temp. of the wax, e.g., 40°C, and pressed by a hydrostatic press while being maintained at the temp. The wax pattern 15 is taken out of the hydrostatic press and is heated in order to remove the wax, and the compressed powdered-material is sintered to produce the cage 18.
