Abstract

PURPOSE:To endow a steel with excellent press moldability and baking hardenability by the procedure in which an Al-killed steel plate made by hot and cold rolling is annealed, then cooled quickly to an overaging treatment temperature, and further applied an overaging treatment under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:An Al-killed steel ingot, containing 0.02 to 0.07% C, 0.10 to 0.40% Mn, 0.02 to 0.07 sol Al, and 0.002 to 0.008% Ni, is made into a steel plate by hot rolling, and then the steel plate is coiled at more than 650 deg.C and then regulated its thickness to the target thickness by cold rolling. After the cold rolling, it is annealed at 650 to 850 deg.C, and then cooled quickly from the annealing temperature to less than the overaging treatment temperature to crystallize oversaturated C solid solution, giving good and sufficient press moldability and baking hardenability as well as a lower ordinary temperature aging property than that of rimmed steel. The overaging treatment conditions, e.g., temperature T( deg.C), time t(min), and quick cooling rate V( deg.C/sec) before overaging treatment, are determined by the equation [I] (where T is overaging treatment temperature ( deg.C), t is overaging treatment time(min), and V is quick cooling rate before overaging treatment ( deg.C/sec)).
