Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of treating a used electrolytic soln. of zinc sulfate and that of electrolysis to obtain zinc, by contacting the soln. to water with an anion exchange membrane in-between to separation recover selectively and efficiently sulfuric acid from the soln. by dialysis and to recycle the sulfuric acid.
CONSTITUTION: The above used electrolytic soln. X is supplied to alternate partitioned chambers of a dialysis vessel constituted by arranging a plurality of anion exchange membranes A such as strongly basic ST-divinyl-benzene type exchange membranes. On the other hand, water Y is supplied at a velocity about equal to that of soln. X to the remaining partitioned chambers each adjacent to the above chambers with membrane A in-between. Sulfuric acid in soln. S is selectively shifted to the water sides through each membrane A by the action of concn. gradient and anion exchange groups. Soln. X thus dialyzed is taken out Z from the vessel and circulated again if necessary. Zinc-contg. water in the recovery system is optionally returned to water Y, circulated, and taken out from the vessel when the concn. of sulfuric acid reaches a predetermined value. The water is then effectively used in extraction of roasted ore, etc. in a zinc plant.
