Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the coating strength, surface smoothness, contact, solvent resistivity, heat floating property and head attractivity for the requirement of a high density recording medium by mixing fine carbon particles in the magnetic coating including powders of ZrO2.
CONSTITUTION: In a magnetic disc for use in a contact-start-stop system, less than 20 wt.%, preferably, 1 to 10 wt.% of carbon particles having a mean diameter of less than 0.4 microns, preferably, 0.01 to 0.4 microns are mixed with a magnetic coating of the type, in which magnetic powders of gamma-Fe2O3 or Fe3O4 and ZrO2 are dispersed in a binder such as a thermoset resin. The above-specified wt. percentages are for the weight of the magnetic powders contained in the magnetic coating.
