Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between N-substituted arylamines and cyanuric chloride is effected to produce high-purity title compound useful for crosslinking acrylic resins and unsaturated polyester resins with only production of easily removable and noncorrosive halide.
CONSTITUTION: More than 3 moles of at least one selected from the group of arylamines of formula I (R1 is H, methyl; R2 is 1 - 5C alkyl, group of formula II and 1 mole of cyanuric chloride are heated in an inert solvent as benzene or toluene at room temperature to 250°C, preferably 50 - 200°C to prepare hexaarylmelamine of formula III. Hydroquinone or cathecol may be added to the reaction mixture to avoid gelation during the reaction.
