The present invention relates to current measurement, and more particularly, to current shunts. One standard technique for measuring current is to measure the voltage drop across a known small resistor through the current. Thus, the current is actually measured by a voltage measuring device or circuit shunted by a resistor, which is therefore called a shunt. The shunt has four terminals or connections, through which the current to be measured flows through the connections at the two ends and the resulting voltage through which the current flows through another two connections (usually (Disposed close to the current connection). The latter two terminals are called sensing terminals or Kelvin terminals. The connection of the shunt to the sensing terminal involves a thermoelectric effect (assuming that the connection is made of a different material than the shunt). The shunt temperature is likely to fluctuate. This is due to ambient temperature fluctuations and the heating effect of the measured current (assuming the current is large), of course, the heating due to the current will be delayed due to the heat capacity of the shunt. . To avoid temperature sensitivity, the two connections are usually made of the same material. For accurate current measurement, the shunt must have a known value. For some purposes, the value of the shunt must be adjusted precisely. However, in many cases, it is sufficient for the accurate measurement of the value of the shunt to convert the measured value of the voltage into a current value by means of a suitable calculation. Also, the shunt must be stable. In order to achieve a suitably low resistance, the shunt is usually made from a metal alloy that has a higher than good conductor but a sufficiently low resistance. A major source of instability in such shunts is temperature changes. To overcome this, ZTC (zero temperature coefficient) alloys having a substantially zero resistance temperature coefficient have been developed. The resistance of a material plotted against temperature can be expressed as a polynomial temperature function. The first order term is usually dominant, the coefficient being the temperature coefficient of the resistance of the material, the higher order terms being progressively smaller (so that they only become significant over a large temperature range). Have the following coefficients: However, materials have been developed in which the first order coefficient is substantially zero. The best known of these alloys is called manganin, which is composed of 83-85% Cu, 10-13% Mn, and 4% Ni, where the top of the resistance function is Is a quadratic equation, which gives a temperature range in which the resistance value is substantially constant. Other materials, such as zeranin, which provide a comparable, large temperature range where the resistance is substantially constant are also available, in which case the first and second order terms of the resistance function. Are both substantially zero, so that the first term in the resistance function is cubic. A further requirement on accuracy is that the shunt should have a linear "voltage" versus "current" characteristic. Ohm's law is only approximated to a typical shunt because the distribution of current through the body of the shunt tends to vary slightly with the magnitude of the current. This phenomenon is called "current crowding". Known techniques for overcoming this effect include creating a shunt element having a serpentine or zigzag shape, and creating multiple sensing contacts on it to average out voltage fluctuations due to current grouping. It is mentioned. Also, the physical size of the shunt imposes certain requirements. When detecting large currents, the current connection to the shunt is large and its cross section is of the order of a few mm 2 , and it is desirable for the shunt to also have a cross section approximately the size of this. The shunt also preferably has a length of a few mm. If it is shorter than this, it is difficult to control the accuracy and form a Kelvin connection, and if it is longer than that, it may be disadvantageously a large shunt. It is a general object of the present invention to provide an improved shunt. According to the invention, a pair of current connections, having a substantially cylindrical shape and in the form of a flat strip, are constituted by shunt elements made of ZTC material attached at the ends. , A shunt assembly for current measurement is provided. Preferably, a sensing connection made of the same ZTC material is connected to the end of the shunt element via a through hole in the connection. A particular use of current shunts is in an electricity distribution box where multiple output cables are supplied from multiple input cables. The distribution box typically comprises a number of connections or busbars, typically in the form of flat strips of copper, which connect the input terminals to the output terminals. This connection is often made along an angled or zig-zag path. By including the current shunt in the bus band, the current flowing through the bus band can be monitored. Conventional shunt elements usually have the same cross section as copper strips, which are usually in the same plane. It is important to have a good (i.e., stable) connection between the shunt element and the copper strip, and such a connection is usually formed by electron beam welding. This sets a practical lower limit (within a region of 2 mm) on the length of the shunt element. This establishes a practical lower limit for the shunt resistance. For some applications, very low resistance values (eg, in the range of 70 μΩ) may be desirable, but cannot be achieved with this technique. In addition, if the copper strips are at right angles to each other, a shunt at their junction (an extension at one end of the strip and end connected to the side edge of the other strip) (In the form of an extension). However, the current distribution through the shunt element is distorted and the inner part of the shunt element has a higher current density than the outer part of the element. Therefore, the conventional configuration suffers from adverse effects such as current grouping and a change in resistance value due to current. In the present invention, the strips forming the bus strip are, of course, in a plane offset by the length of the shunt element. Thus, if it is essential that the two strips return to a common plane, one strip will require a crank. However, there are many cases where it is desirable for the two strips to be in different planes. The present invention automatically guides the change of plane between the two strips, which makes it particularly suitable for such situations. The distance between the planes can be adjusted within wide limits by a suitable choice of the dimensions of the shunt element. Furthermore, the attachment of the two strips to the end of the shunt element is independent, so that the two strips can be arranged at any angle with respect to each other (for example, in series or at right angles). Becomes The shunt of the present invention is easy to manufacture, low cost, and has high accuracy. Further features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of a shunt assembly embodying the present invention, described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing a shunt assembly. FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the shunt assembly of FIG. FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing a modified shunt element. Reference is now made to FIG. The shunt assembly comprises a pair of strips 10, 11 and a ZTC shunt element 12 connected therebetween. As shown, the strips 10, 11 are in different but parallel planes, and the axis of the shunt element 12 is orthogonal to those planes. Although the angle between the two strips is shown as 90 °, the angle between the two strips can obviously have any value (including 0 ° and series). By appropriately choosing the diameter of the shunt element for the desired shunt resistance, the distance between the two planes can be adjusted within reasonable limits. (To keep the resistance constant, the diameter of the shunt element should be increased as the square root of its length.) The voltage across the shunt element is increased by the two sensing connections 12,13 Is detected. These two connections need to make contact with the ends of the shunt element. These contacts can be formed by using a disc (with a protruding tab) held between the end of the shunt element 12 and the strips 10,11. However, these contacts are preferably formed by a connection to the center of the end of the shunt element. Thus, the sensing connection is connected to the end of the shunt element 12 via the through holes 15, 16 (see FIG. 2) passing through the strips 10, 11. The sensing connection can be made from any suitable material and can be attached to the end of the shunt element. However, it is preferable to insert them into holes formed at the ends of the shunt elements. Also, they are preferably formed from manganin (ie, the same material as the shunt element) and, as shown in FIG. 2, a single length through an axial hole through the entire length of the shunt element. Of manganin wire. In fact, the wire portion inside the shunt element becomes part of the shunt element. Using the same material for the sensing connection as the shunt element also minimizes thermoelectric effects. FIG. 3 shows an alternative form of shunt element, which is formed as a cylinder 12 'with integral connections 13', 14 'projecting from the ends. The various components of the shunt assembly can be soldered together simply by soldering and heating (e.g., by spreading solder paste in the appropriate area and heating the assembly). As a result, it has been found that the assembly has highly stable electrical properties. The surfaces that need to be soldered together are the end of the shunt element and the facing area of the strip forming the bus strip, as well as the hole through the shunt element and the portion of the connecting wire in the hole. Also, it does not matter whether the holes 15, 16 of the strip are filled with solder, and the configuration is extremely tolerant of manufacturing quality problems such as lack of solder. Do you get it. Such shunt assemblies have been found to have highly stable electrical properties over a current range typically between 200 mA and 100 A. The diameter of the manganin rod will usually be selected to correspond to the range of current to be measured. If the diameter is small, very low currents can be measured, and at the limit it is possible to use the same manganin rod or wire for both the shunt resistance and the sensing connection. For very large currents, multiple rods can be used in parallel, any one of which can be provided with a sensing connection, or all of the rods can be provided with a sensing connection. It is possible to connect the connections together (or the connections have their averaged output). The current distribution through the middle (equatorial) part of the shunt element will probably be fairly uniform, but the current distribution through the ends of the shunt element and adjacent parts of the bus strip will have a rather complex pattern. Is expected. However, there is no significant current grouping, and the effects of the presence of the current grouping are nearly balanced. As mentioned above, it is an object of the present invention to achieve stable characteristics, rather than precisely determined characteristics. Accuracy of 1-5% can be achieved by cutting the shunt element to a suitable length from a collection of manganin rods (manganin rods are usually made by extrusion, the diameter of the rod being It is desirable to measure the diameter of the manganin rod instead of using the nominal value for good accuracy, since the は tends to increase as the extrusion die wears out). However, if the diameter of the manganin rod is precisely adjusted, much higher accuracy can be achieved. The diameter of the manganin rod can be adjusted to a tolerance of 10 μm, which gives a resistance value accuracy of around 0.1%. Fluctuation due to soldering or the like has only a slight effect on the accuracy. If necessary, the value of the shunt element can be adjusted by making it thinner by polishing or the like after its manufacture. However, typically, that value will be accurately measured and will be used to obtain a precise current value from the voltage measured over the shunt.
