Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a light and compact base fabric for air bag of automobile, having heat aging durability of tear strength and excellent in flexibility, reliability and safety. CONSTITUTION:This base fabric for air bag is produced by using nylon 66 multi-filament yarns of <=700 denier as weft yarns and warp yarns, weaving a plain weave fabric having a number of yarns per inch of >=30 line/inch therefrom, then immersing the plain weave fabric in a polysiloxane-based flexibilizer solution, squeezing it uniformly, drying it using a heat setter, subsequently curing it and applying a surface treatment thereto. The friction coefficient of the obtained base fabric is <=0.25.

2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, an air bag system has been put to practical use as a vehicle occupant protection device. This airbag is stored in a narrow space such as a slaling wheel and instrument panel until just before deployment.
The smaller the storage volume of the airbag, the better. Ny-66 is the material used for the air bag base fabric that is currently in practical use.
A woven fabric composed of yarns of about 40d is used, and in order to give airtightness to the bag, it is generally used in a form covered with chloroprene rubber. However, the above-mentioned airbag cloth is considerably heavy by itself, has insufficient foldability, and is poor in compactness. In order to improve this point, it is conceivable to reduce the weight and size of the airbag by using finer denier yarn as the constituent fiber of the airbag base fabric. However, nylon-66 cloth composed of fine denier yarn, for example, yarn of about 420 denier, has a very large tear strength and heat aging, compared with the 840 denier nylon fabric which is generally used at present, and is safe as an air bag base fabric. Poor.

A nylon of about 840d which is generally used as a base fabric for airbags at present.
The 66 cloth has almost no change in tear strength before and after the heat treatment, whereas the nylon 6 has a thickness of about 420d.
It has been found from experimental data that No. 6 fabric has a significantly reduced tear strength upon heat treatment. An investigation and study was conducted on the cause of the heat resistance and aging of the tear strength in the base fabric using such fine denier yarn, and it was revealed that the smoothness of the fabric surface of the base fabric after the heat resistance test was lower than that of the untreated base fabric. became. Therefore, the present invention has been completed as a result of diligent studies to improve the tear strength by improving the slip between yarns by lowering the friction coefficient between yarns of the fabric.

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described specifically. Nylon-66 cloth, which is generally used at present, is suitable as the air bag base cloth material to be used, but other fiber materials may be used as long as they have the required material strength and durability. As the base cloth, thickness 300 denier ~
600 denier and 60 to 150 filaments are used for warp and weft, and weave density is 3 for both warp and weft.
Use 0 / inch to 60 / inch. A plain weave is generally used as the weave structure, but the weave structure is not particularly limited thereto, and other weave structures such as a twill weave may be adopted. In order to smooth the fiber surface and reduce the coefficient of friction between yarns, a cloth having such a material and a woven structure is coated with a surface treatment agent such as a silicone-based material generally used for softening the cloth.

Examples of such treating agents include chloroprene resin and silicone resin, and the treating solution has a concentration of 0.
01 to 5 wt%, preferably 0.1 to 1.0 wt% is used. A pad-dry-cure method is generally used as a method for applying the treatment agent, but the method is not particularly limited to this method, and any method may be used as long as the treatment agent can be uniformly and easily applied to the base fabric. After applying the treating agent to the base fabric, the base fabric is dried at 100 ± 10 ° C. for several minutes and further cured at 150 ± 10 ° C.

The cloth surface-treated under such a method condition has a smooth and soft cloth surface as compared with the cloth without the surface treatment. Further, the fabric subjected to the treatment has a significantly improved tear strength retention after heat treatment as compared with the untreated fabric, and can prevent the base fabric tear strength from heat aging resistance. Further, a very small amount of a processing agent is used for this surface treatment, and therefore the above method makes it possible to obtain an air bag base fabric having desired performance easily and at low cost.

After being dipped in a 0.5 wt% solution of atex ESC (Ciba Geigy), it is uniformly squeezed with a mangle to a wet pick-up of about 30% and dried by a heat setter at 100 ° C. for 3 minutes. Further, this fabric is cured at 150 ° C. for 1 minute to complete the surface treatment. For the cloth subjected to such treatment (Example 1) and the untreated cloth (Comparative Example 1),
The results of the tear strength heat aging test are shown below. Example 1: Initial tear strength (kgf) length 34, width 30 120 ° C. × 400 hrs after tear strength (kgf) length 50, width 46 Comparative Example 1: Initial tear strength (kgf) length 20, width 18 120 ° C. × 400 hrs after Tear strength (kgf) Length 15, Width 10 The cloth treated as above has excellent tear strength and heat resistance compared to untreated cloth, and can be used as a highly reliable airbag base cloth.
