2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as a gas sensor used in a flammable gas leak alarm and a gas concentration meter, a metal oxide sintered semiconductor gas sensor and a catalytic combustion type gas sensor have been widely used. Since these gas sensors utilize a gas adsorption phenomenon, a combustion phenomenon, and the like, they react with various gases in the test gas, making it difficult to selectively detect only hydrogen gas.

A potentiostatic electrolysis gas sensor is usually composed of a working electrode and a counter electrode of platinum, gold, palladium or the like, a diaphragm of an electrolytic solution and a gas-permeable fluororesin. The working electrode is composed of a metal disk or cylinder, and hydrogen in the detection gas first permeates the diaphragm and then dissolves in the electrolyte membrane formed between the diaphragm and the working electrode to form the surface of the working electrode. Take part in the reaction above. Therefore, it is essential to keep the contact state between the diaphragm and the working electrode constant so that the thickness of the liquid film does not change.

However, there is a problem that the contact state between the diaphragm and the working electrode changes if the pressure of the atmospheric gas changes or the relative humidity changes. Further, if the contact state between the diaphragm and the working electrode is to be kept constant, great care must be taken, and the number of man-hours for manufacturing the sensor increases accordingly. Furthermore, when the diaphragm and the working electrode are pressed against each other in order to keep the contact state constant, there is a problem in that the electrolyte solution becomes unfavorable and the output becomes unstable.

The platinum-electroless carbon fiber electrode used for the working electrode has elasticity and excellent electrical conductivity. Since it is a fiber, it has good circulation around the electrolytic solution, so that the diaphragm and the working electrode can be strongly pressed. Therefore, the contact state between the diaphragm and the working electrode can be made constant, and the output becomes stable.

The holder body 9 and the holder lid 10 are each threaded. Inner lid 1, O-ring 2, porous poly 4
The ethylene fluoride film 3, the diaphragm 4, and the platinum-plated carbon fiber electrode 5 are pressed by screwing the holder body 9 and the holder lid 10, and a good contact state is maintained. The inner lid 1 functions as a pressing end plate, and the porous polytetrafluoroethylene film 3 is for preventing the surface of the diaphragm 4 from being soiled. The O-ring 2 ensures air tightness and liquid tightness.
The platinum plating thickness of the carbon fiber electrode 5 is preferably 1 μm or more, and when it is less than that, the change in output with time becomes large.

Let A be the potentiostatic electrolysis hydrogen sensor obtained in the above-mentioned embodiment, and let B be the sensor using a platinum plate in place of the platinum-plated carbon fiber in the working electrode in the embodiment, and check the change with time of the output voltage of the sensor. As a result, the sensor A of the present invention was very stable, but the sensor B had a poor output around the electrolyte and a decrease in output was observed. This clearly indicates the effect of the platinum-plated carbon fiber electrode in the present invention.
