To solve this problem, a paper jam detector 53 for detecting paper jam is usually arranged between the first drive roller 51a and the second drive roller 51b. The sheet jam detecting device 53 is arranged at the tip of a support member 56 which is rotated counterclockwise in the drawing by a spring 55 around a fulcrum shaft 54, presses continuous sheets against the upper guide 50a, and continuously connects them. A rotary plate 57 that rotates with the conveyance of a sheet, and an optical sensor 58 that detects the light passing through holes 57a provided at predetermined intervals on the peripheral edge of the rotary plate 57 to detect the peripheral speed of the rotary plate 57. And a control unit (not shown) that determines a paper jam when the peripheral speed of the rotary plate 57 detected by the optical sensor 58 is different from a predetermined peripheral speed. The rotary plate 57 has a thickness of, for example, about 4 mm.
The circumference of 7 is shaped and made of a material that does not damage the continuous paper when it comes into contact with the continuous paper.

The paper jam detector 53 utilizes the fact that the continuous paper conveyance speed changes when a paper jam occurs in the continuous paper, and the rotary plate 57 changes due to the change in the continuous paper conveyance speed. When a change in the peripheral speed of the sheet is detected by the optical sensor 58 and it is determined by the control unit that the paper jam has occurred, the occurrence of the paper jam is displayed on a display device (not shown) or the like.

1a and the second drive roller 51b). That is, a transport tractor (not shown) is generally arranged on the upstream side of the fixing section 49, and the continuous paper is constrained by the transport tractor through a plurality of holes (not shown) provided at both ends in the transport direction. Therefore, if the transport tractor is normally driven, the continuous paper is also transported normally. However, since there is nothing to restrain the continuous paper on the downstream side of the fixing unit 49, it is necessary to detect the state of the continuous paper on the downstream side.

By the way, when changing the width of the continuous paper used in the electrophotographic apparatus 41, for example, in FIG. 4, the position of the front end face of the continuous paper is fixed and the rear end is fixed. The position of the end face on the side is often changed. The rotating plate 57 of the paper jam detecting device 53 described above.
Since the disposition position of the continuous paper is fixed, the position of the rotary plate 57 in contact with the continuous paper when changing the paper width of the continuous paper changes in the width direction of the continuous paper. In other words, the rotary plate 57 is always continuous. It does not touch the center of the paper in the width direction. However, in the electrophotographic apparatus 41 provided with the paper jam detection device 53, a load for rotating the rotary plate 57 is applied to a portion of the continuous paper conveyed to the stacker portion, which is in contact with the rotary plate 57. Since the conveying speed of the portion to which the load is applied is slightly slower than that of the portion to which the load is not applied, there is a problem that the continuous sheet is skewed unless the rotary plate 57 is in contact with the center in the width direction of the continuous sheet. There is. Further, since the circumferential portion of the rotary plate 57 is in contact with the upper guide guide 50a when the continuous paper is not conveyed, in an electrophotographic apparatus having a so-called autoload function in which the continuous paper is automatically set. However, there is a problem that the leading edge of the continuous paper is less likely to pass between the rotary plate 57 and the upper guide guide 50a during the automatic loading, and paper jam easily occurs.

The sheet jam detecting device according to the present invention is arranged so as to be orthogonal to the sheet conveying direction and to be pressed against the rotating shaft (1) whose length is at least longer than the width of the sheet (2).
By this, the paper is pressed over the entire width of the paper, and the rotary shaft (1) is rotated at the peripheral speed corresponding to the carrying speed of the paper as the paper is carried. Therefore, the load applied to the paper when the paper rotates the rotating shaft (1) becomes uniform over the entire width of the paper. The peripheral speed of the rotating rotary shaft (1) is, for example, that one end of the rotary shaft (1) rotates synchronously with the same axis as the rotary shaft (1) and holes are provided at a peripheral portion at predetermined intervals. Is detected by a detecting means (3) composed of a rotating plate and an optical sensor for detecting the light passing through the hole of the rotating plate to detect the peripheral speed of the rotating plate. When it is different from the speed, the judgment means (4) judges that the paper is jammed.

According to the paper jam detecting device 21, as the continuous paper is conveyed, the rotary shaft 22 is rotated by the frictional force between the surface of the continuous paper and the peripheral surface of the rotary shaft 22. As the shaft 22 is rotated, the optical sensor 26 detects the light transmitted through the hole 25a of the rotary plate 25, and the peripheral speed of the rotary plate 25 is detected. Therefore, when the peripheral speed of the rotary plate 25 detected by the optical sensor 26 changes and is different from the predetermined peripheral speed set in advance, the controller 27 connected to the optical sensor 26 causes a jam of continuous paper. It is determined that the paper jam has occurred, and the occurrence of the paper jam is displayed on a display device or the like (not shown).
