As for the control of the amount of smoke, it has been proposed to measure the amount of smoke in the exhaust gas and feed it back to the arithmetic and control unit to control the fuel injection amount and injection timing. In this case, the measurement of the amount of smoke is based on the induced current caused by passing a positively charged smoke along a sensor made of a metal plate, as described in US SAE 860012.

In addition, it is possible to incorporate a heater in the spark plug type to eliminate the adhesion of carbon, but since the distance between the electrode and the ground electrode is short, the temperature of the insulator rises when the heater is energized and its resistance decreases. However, there is a problem that the amount of smoke cannot be measured at the same time when the heater is energized.

However, because the heater electrode is provided, carbon does not adhere and accurate output can be obtained, but unlike the application of the spark plug type, it becomes possible to accurately measure the smoke amount while energizing the heater electrode. It is possible to provide a smoke detection device in a diesel engine that has the advantageous effects described above.

It is an injection nozzle which injects into 1. An exhaust pipe 6 is connected to the exhaust port 4, and is composed of two pipes 7 and 8 connected to each other via flanges 7a and 8a. Reference numeral 9 is a smoke detecting device, which is arranged in the exhaust pipe 6 so as to be located at the connecting portion of the flanges 7a and 8a, as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 3, the detection device 9 has a support 10 formed by bending a rectangular plate made of alumina ceramic into a cylindrical shape. This support 10
A rectangular detection electrode 11 is formed on the inner surface of the metal by metallizing platinum paste, and a rectangular frame-shaped heater electrode 12 is provided on the outer peripheral edge. The heater electrode 12 is also protected by an alumina ceramic protective layer by simultaneous firing. Are formed. Then, the detection electrode 11 is connected via a lead wire 13 to a central processing unit 14 as an arithmetic and control unit. The central processing unit 14 is composed of a RAM (Random Acceleration Memory), a ROM (Read Only Memory), etc., and is adapted to calculate the fuel injection amount to the injection nozzle 5 according to the output from the detection electrode 11. A lead wire 15 is connected from the heater electrode 12 to a storage battery 17 via a switching module 16. The switching module 16 is configured such that, for example, a computer having a clock circuit periodically closes an energization circuit for the heater electrode 12 when the engine is operating.

Are sequentially discharged to the outside. In this exhaust gas,
The positively charged smoke (soot) is included, and in the process of passing the smoke through the detection electrode 11, a current corresponding to the amount of smoke is generated in the detection electrode 11. Based on the output of this current, the central processing unit 14 calculates an appropriate injection amount or injection timing of fuel to the injection nozzle 5, and keeps the amount of smoke in the exhaust gas to a minimum in order to prevent pollution. Further, since the switching module 16 is regularly operated by the computer, the heater electrode 15 is energized intermittently at predetermined time intervals. Therefore, the heater electrode 12 is heated, and the deposit such as carbon attached to the detection electrode 11 is burned and gasified (carbon dioxide) to disappear.

Therefore, the degree of smoke detection will not be different. Further, the smoke attached to the ceramic support body holding the detection electrode 11 is the heater electrode 1
Since it is periodically oxidized by 2 and disappears, an accurate output can always be obtained without lowering the insulation resistance. Further, unlike the conventional technique using the spark plug, it is possible to avoid the insulation resistance from being lowered by the heater electrode 12 when the smoke in the exhaust gas disappears. Can be maintained
Therefore, even when the heater electrode 12 is energized, the amount of smoke is accurately detected without causing any damage.

In this case, it goes without saying that the detection device 9 may be arranged at any position in the exhaust pipe 6.
