Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a phenol resin molding material which is asbestos- and ammonia-free and has improved heat resistance and mechanical and electrical properties by compounding a copolymer of a specific condensation-type phenol- aralkyl resin and a resole resin with an inorg. filler. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer is obtd. by copolymerizing a condensation-type phenol-aralkyl resin of the formula (wherein Y is methylene or -CH2OCH2-; n is 1 or higher; and x is 0-2) with a resole phenol resin. The molding material is obtd. by thermally mixing 5-70wt.% the copolymer with 30-95wt.% inorg. filler and, if necessary, a curative, a colorant, a cure accelerator, a mold release agent, a flame retardant, a lubricant, and a coupling agent, cooling the resulting mixture to solidify it, and crushing it.
