The electrode is attached to the electrode surface 1a by laser welding. In that case, as shown in FIG. 4, when the laser is irradiated while the lead terminal 3 is in close contact with the electrode surface 1a, the melting point of iron is about Since the vaporization temperature of the solder is about 1200 ° C. while it is 1300 ° C., the solder plating 3a of the lead terminal 3 is vaporized, and the solder gas causes the vaporization.
As schematically shown in FIG. 3, blowholes H are generated in the welded portion 4, and the welding strength is reduced.

In the method of welding lead terminals to be welded to a case such as the above, the laser is preliminarily applied to the welded portion of the lead terminal to gasify and remove the solder plating on the surface, and then the lead terminal is brought into contact with the case. The point is that laser welding is used.

Therefore, even if the laser is irradiated again to perform welding, there is no possibility that blowholes will be generated in the welded portion. In this example, the spacer 5 is used to secure the gap G, but a protrusion may be formed on either one to secure the required gap G, for example.

The result of actually laser-welding a 5 mm iron lead terminal to a cell case of an electric double layer capacitor made of stainless steel (SUS304) will be described. In each example, the laser irradiation pulse width was 3.5 ms, and the laser output per pulse was 2.8 J / P. <Comparative Example 1> A lead terminal plated with solder having a thickness of 1 μm was brought into contact with the electrode surface of the cell case as it was, and one pulse of laser was applied for welding. The welding strength was measured and found to be 0.5 kgf. . <Comparative Example 2> A lead terminal made of iron not subjected to solder plating was brought into contact with the electrode surface of the cell case, and one pulse of laser was irradiated to perform welding. In this case, the welding strength is 4.2 kg
It was f. <Comparative Example 3> 1 μm thick solder plating was removed from the welded portion of the lead terminal by chemical treatment, and then the electrode surface of the cell case was brought into contact with the laser to irradiate 1 pulse of laser to perform welding, and the welding strength was measured. However, it was 3.5 kgf. << Example 1 >> A lead terminal having a solder plating of 1 μm thickness is preliminarily irradiated with a pulse of laser to remove the solder plating from the welded portion, and then contacted with the electrode surface of the cell case to radiate a pulse of laser. And welded. The weld strength was measured and found to be 4.3 kgf. Example 2 A lead terminal having a solder plating of 1 μm thickness is preliminarily irradiated with one pulse of laser to remove the solder plating from the welded portion, and then contacted with the electrode surface of the cell case to radiate two pulses of laser. And welded. The weld strength was measured and found to be 3.8 kgf. Example 3 A lead terminal having a solder plating of 1 μm thickness is preliminarily irradiated with one pulse of laser to remove the solder plating from the welded portion, and then contacted with the electrode surface of the cell case to radiate the laser for three pulses. And welded. The weld strength was measured and found to be 3.9 kgf.

Those of gf or more were passed, and those of gf or less were rejected. Each of the above examples is shown in Table 1 for ease of comparison.
According to the present invention, practically sufficient welding strength can be obtained which is almost the same as that when no solder plating is applied.

After preliminarily irradiating the welded part of the lead terminal with solder plating with laser to gasify and remove the solder plating on the surface, the lead terminal is laser-welded to the electrode surface of the cell case, for example. By doing so, sufficient welding strength can be obtained even in the state where the solder plating is performed, so that partial plating and plating removal work are unnecessary, and the number of steps can be further reduced.
