Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain high resolution image scanning for picture input at a high speed without any mechanical operation. CONSTITUTION:An incident light is divided into two by a half mirror 4 and made incident in sensors A1, B2 each comprising a facial solid-state image pickup element. The sensors A1, B2 are arranged with a deviation by 1/2 of element arrangement in the horizontal direction or vertical direction. Then video signals from the sensors A1, B2 are synthesized in the horizontal direction by a signal synthesizer 3 when the sensors are placed with a deviation in the horizontal direction and integrated in zigzag in the vertical direction when the sensors are placed with a deviation in the vertical direction and a resulting video signal 5 is outputted.
