Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reliability under a contaminative environment by a method wherein a position control is performed by a linear encoder provided with a magnetic recording medium made of an alloy containing chromium and cobalt. CONSTITUTION:In a linear magnetic recording medium 1, a material of an alloy containing iron, chromium, and cobalt machined by rolling, wire drawing, and the like is magnetized so as to have N and S alternately. In a gap holding component part 2 provided with a magnetic head, a U-shaped magnetic element mount 11 with a magnetic sensor 13 fixed is fitted to the magnetic recording medium 1, and bearings 14 are fixed on the both ends thereof. A printing head 3 of ink jet, dot impact, or thermal transfer system is guided along slide guide shafts 4, a magnetized pattern of the magnetic recording medium 1 is detected by the magnetic sensor 13, and a printing control is conducted. The encoder of this type is more economical than an optical linear encoder, hardly affected by a contaminative environment, such as printer ink and paper dust, improved in reliability, and free from a trouble of a maintenance.
