Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve abrasive characteristics and to decrease abrasive wear by incorporating both a phosphoric acid compd. and a sulfur-contg. iron compd. in a base oil of a lubricant for a compression refrigerator wherein a hydrofluorocarbon is used as a refrigerant. CONSTITUTION:A phosphoric acid extreme-pressure agent (e.g. a compd. of the formula) and a sulfur-contg. iron compd. (e.g. iron sulfide) are added into a lubricant base oil (e.g. polyalkylnene glycol) to prepare a lubricant, which is used as a lubricant for a compression refrigerator wherein a hydrofluorocarbon which is chlorine-free refrigerant is used. As the sulfur-contg. iron compd. is incorporated in the lubricant base oil, when a condition reaches the extreme pressure condition, a sulfur compd. is formed on the abrasive face and a synergistic effect based on the use of the phosphoric acid extreme-pressure agent is exhibited to make it possible to improve the wear resistance of the abrasive face even though there is no incorporation of chlorine in the refrigerant.

As a result of intensive research based on the above facts, the present inventors found that when extreme pressure conditions are reached by adding S groups as an additive to refrigerating machine oil, sulfur compounds are generated on the sliding surfaces. It was confirmed that wear resistance could be improved by the combined effect of using it in combination with a phosphorus-based extreme pressure agent.
