本発明は、大面積になし得る液晶包蔵膜に関するもので
、視野の広い、動画を可能とした電気光学的機器を提供

従来、液晶表示装置には、ネマスチック液晶を用いたT
N型や、STN型の液晶のみのものか実用化されている

本発明はかかる欠点を除かんとしたものであって、以下

気光学効果発生層(液晶および透光性物質との複合体)
を有する層において、液晶または透光性物質の双方を混
在せしめ、かつそのいずれか一方を分散化せしめたもの

折率を持つ複合材料とすることにより、液晶に電界か加
わった際に液晶のとる光透過方向の屈折率と透光性物資
の屈折率とをほぼ同じ程度にして、より多くの光を透過
させることにより、高いコントラストを得んとしたもの

また使用する、液晶材料は強誘電性液晶を始めTN液晶
、その他の液晶を使用することか可能である。

本発明は、これまで知られているTN液晶を用いかつ、
偏光板を使用して、透過非透過の光量を制御していた場
合に比へて、偏光板を用いていないため、液晶装置を透
過する光の量は、従来の偏光板を必要とする装置に比へ
て4倍にすることかできた。

ては必要であったバックライトを使用せずに、良好な表

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1、電極を有する少なくとも一方が透光性を持つ一対の
基板と前記基板間に支持された電気光学効果発生層を有
し、前記電気光学効果発生層が液晶材料と第1の透光性
物質と前記液晶材料と第1の透光性物質との持つ屈折率
の値とは異なる屈折率を持つ第2の透光性物質を有して
いることを特徴とする液晶装置。 2、特許請求の範囲第1項において、前記第2の透光性
物質の持つ屈折率と第1の透光性物質の持つ屈折率との
合成した値が前記液晶材料に電界を印加した際の液晶材
料の持つ屈折率の値にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする液晶
装置。 3、電極を有する少なくとも一方が透光性を持つ一対の
基板と前記基板間に支持された電気光学効果発生層を有
し、前記電気光学効果発生層が液晶材料と透光性物質を
有しており、前記透光性物資は混合物であり液晶材料の
屈折率とおなじ程度の屈折率を有していることを特徴と
する液晶装置。
