The developing device of the above type is significantly smaller in size than a conventional developing device using a sleeve in which toner is transferred from a hopper to a toner reservoir and a sleeve draws up the toner using a magnetic field. However, in the apparatus shown in FIG. 1, the development result may vary depending on the amount of toner in the container. Furthermore, since a cartridge is used to replenish toner as the toner is consumed, space for the cartridge is also required in addition to the toner container.

With the above configuration, a constant amount of toner is supplied from the toner storage container to the toner carrier due to the presence of the toner storage member, so that there is no change in the development result due to a change in the amount of toner in the storage container. At the same time, since the toner container is removably attached to the main unit, toner can be replenished simply by replacing the container, and the developing device does not require any additional structure such as a hopper. Therefore,
Not only can the developing device be made smaller, but it is also possible to position the developing device easily because there is no need to take out the toner carrier, which requires high positional accuracy with respect to the surface to be developed, from the main device.

By the way, when a photoreceptor is used as the surface to be developed, durability in use becomes a problem due to deterioration of the photoreceptor. In such a case, the photoconductor should be replaced, but the durability of the photoconductor should be related to the amount of toner in the toner storage container, and the life of the photoconductor should be set so that the life of the photoconductor ends when the toner is consumed. By taking out the toner storage container from the main unit, and simultaneously taking out the toner storage container from the main unit, maintenance of the image forming section is extremely simplified. Further, according to the configuration of the present invention, it is possible to replace only the consumable part while leaving the main body of the developing device, which is an expensive toner carrier part, which is an important part of the developing device, which is also economical.

以下本発明を一実施例に従つて説明する。 The present invention will be explained below according to one embodiment.

At the top of the developing device 8, there is a magnetic roller 16 fixed by a shaft 15, a non-magnetic sleeve 17 rotating around the roller in the direction of the arrow, and a magnetic blade for making the amount of toner on the sleeve 17 uniform. 18 is attached to a frame body 20 that rotates in the direction of the arrow around a shaft 19. The frame 20 rotates clockwise due to its own weight and is locked to a toner storage container 21, which will be described later, and the magnetic blade 18 is forced in the direction of the sleeve 17 by the magnetic force of N2, thereby maintaining the state shown in the figure. . In addition, the frame body 20
When rotated against magnetic force, the convex portion 22 provided on the frame body 20 engages with the concave portion on the main body side, and the blade 18 is separated from the container 21 and the sleeve 17 is also separated from the surface of the photosensitive drum 7. keep.

At the bottom of the developing device 8, there is a container 21 for storing toner, and this container is loaded into the main body by pushing it along the guide/support member 24 in the direction of the rotation axis of the photosensitive drum, or detached from the main body by pulling it out. . The inside of this container 21 has a circular cross section, and a rotatable cylinder 25 is disposed along the inner peripheral surface. The cylinder 25 has an axially extending opening 25a through which toner is supplied to and collected from the sleeve. The cylinder 25 can be changed in position by rotating a continuous knob (not shown) on the outside of the container 21.

In the center of the cylinder 25 inside the container 21,
There is a rotating shaft 26 that also serves as a support shaft for this cylinder.
This shaft 26 is provided with a toner stirring arm 27 that rotates in the direction of the arrow.
There is a toner supply section 28 made of a resin sheet of ~200 μm. The container 2 is located outside the radius of rotation of this arm 27.
1 and the sleeve 17 is provided with a magnetized rod 29 which is a toner retention member. The supply section 28 and the magnetized rod 29 are arranged parallel to the sleeve surface over the entire width of the sleeve 17.

The development of the photosensitive drum by the above-mentioned developing device will be described below. When the developing device is being driven,
The sleeve 17 is rotated at a speed close to the circumferential speed of the photoreceptor. On the other hand, the rotating shaft 26 is preferably rotated at a rotation speed of about 1/5 to 1/20 of the rotation speed of the sleeve 17, and this rotation speed is preferably determined depending on the amount of toner pumped up. If the amount pumped up is too large, the toner will scatter, and if it is too small, the amount of toner supplied to the sleeve will decrease, leading to a decrease in developing density, or the toner will be removed from the sleeve 17 by the image area on the previous photoreceptor. The toner is not sufficiently applied to the exposed areas, and ghost images appear during the next development.

The pumped up toner is applied to the magnetic pole S 1 of the magnetic roller 16.
Due to the magnetic field formed by the sleeve 17 and the magnetized rod 29, a predetermined amount is held between the sleeve 17 and the magnetized rod. Then, the excess toner that has been pumped up falls due to its own weight and returns into the storage container. This magnetized bar can also be replaced with a simple magnetic bar due to the presence of the magnetic pole S1 . In the example shown in Figure 2, the outer diameter is approximately 30 mm.
Approximately 600 Gauss is generated by S 1 pole on the sleeve 17 of
A magnetized rod 29 of mm is provided. As a result, the magnetic field due to the S1 pole on the sleeve increases by 50 to 60%, and the amount of accumulated toner can increase by 50 to 60% compared to the case without the magnetized rod. This magnetized rod is sleeve 17
If it is too close to the toner, the toner will solidify, so be careful. By retaining a certain amount of toner on the sleeve in this manner, a previously developed image will not be reproduced as a ghost due to insufficient toner, while excess toner will fall due to its own weight.

The toner supplied onto the sleeve 17 is regulated to a uniform thickness by the blade 18, and reaches the developing position by rotation of the sleeve. At this time, only a small amount of toner accumulates on the upstream side of the blade, and the toner does not solidify. The magnetic roller's magnetic pole N2 faces the blade 18, and its magnetic pole N1 faces the photosensitive drum.

With the above configuration, only a constant amount of toner is always supplied to the sleeve 17, so the development result does not change due to fluctuations in the amount of toner. Further, since the toner storage container 21 also serves as a conventional replenishment hopper, the developing device is extremely miniaturized. Note that when magnetic toner is used, the toner is not drawn up by a resin film, but may be drawn up by a bar or plate-shaped magnetic body having a magnetic force weaker than the magnetic field generated in the retention portion. Further, the retention portion is not limited to the magnetized rod, but may be replaced with a magnetic rod or plate-shaped member with or without magnetic force.

When the toner in the storage container 21 is used up, either the toner is replenished into the container, or the container is replaced with the drum 7 in consideration of deterioration of the photosensitive drum. For example, when only the container 21 is replaced, the frame 20 supporting the sleeve 17 is rotated counterclockwise to move the sleeve away from the container, and the protrusion 22 is engaged with the recess and fixed. Then, as shown in FIG. 3, the cylinder 25 inside the container 21 is
is rotated to close the opening of the container 21 to the sleeve 17, and at the same time, the magnetized rod 29 is rotated to better remove toner from the sleeve and take out the container 21 along the guide 24. And then,
Either a new container containing enough toner is loaded, or the container 21 is filled with toner outside the main device and then loaded again. After loading the container, frame 20
is rotated clockwise to bring the blade 18 into contact with a portion of the container to position the sleeve 17 and drum 7, and to start the image forming process. Note that 33 in FIG. 2 is an elastic body provided between the container and the blade, which functions to seal the toner.

By the way, in the case of FIG. 3, the magnetized rod 29 is attached to the cylinder 2.
Although it was attached to the side plate of No. 5, it may be attached to other container sides, or it may be fixed to the cylinder side. Also,
The cylinder 25 is not an essential requirement in the present invention;
Of course, it is also possible to use only the container, and the cylinder is effective in preventing toner from scattering during attachment and detachment.

By the way, if you want to match the time it takes for all the toner in the container 21 to be consumed with the lifespan of the photosensitive drum, instead of replacing only the toner storage container, it is possible to make this container together with the photosensitive drum into an integral structure and remove it from the main unit. , it is sufficient to load a new drum and container that have an integral structure. In this case as well, the frame 20 is fixed at a position away from the photosensitive drum and the container as described above. Of course, the cleaning devices, separation members, and primary or transfer dischargers around the drum can be separated from or removed from the drum 7, as in the case of conventional photoreceptor removal. In order to integrally configure the drum and the toner container like the latter, both sides of the photosensitive drum 7 may be supported by side plates, and the toner storage container 21 may be fixedly installed on an extension of the side plates.
