カーボンブラックを基材とする高温断熱材としては、カ
ーボンブラックベレットの表層部にガラス質炭素を形成
被着した粒状断熱材が出願人により開発されている(特
開昭62−14108号)。このカーボンブラック系断
熱材は、軽量で1000°Cを越える高温域の断熱性能
に優れるうえに流動性に冨むため充填式の断熱材料とし
て有用されているが、反面、自己成形性を持たない関係

備えている。したがって、これを熱硬化性樹脂またはタ
ール・ピッチのようなバインダーで賦形したのち焼成す
ることによって成形比することも可能であるが、ハンド
リングに耐える強度を保有させるためには多量のバイン
ダー添加が必要となり、したがってカーボンブラック固
