Conventional technology and its problems There are two methods for producing carbon fiber: one using synthetic fibers such as polyacrylonitrile, and the other using petroleum pitch,

By the way, among the two methods mentioned above, the above-mentioned method has the disadvantage that the raw material fiber is expensive and the carbonization ratio of the raw material fiber is low. In the latter case, raw material pitches that have good spinnability are generally inferior in infusibility, while those with good infusibility are poor in spinnability, and it is difficult to combine both properties. It had the drawback of being difficult. Furthermore, when producing carbon fibers by the latter method, it is essential to prepare a precursor pitch as a precursor of carbon fiber from the raw material pitch. In addition to the difficulty in removing minute insoluble solids (free carbon and inorganic substances) dispersed in the water, it is difficult to remove spinnability and infusibility by hydrogenation under high pressure with hydrogen gas or hydrogenation with a special hydrogen-donating solvent. Problems remained in areas that required improvement.

Purpose of the Invention The present invention advantageously solves the above-mentioned problems, and has excellent thermal stability, spinnability, and infusibility without the need for special treatment such as hydrogenation treatment, and has excellent carbonization absorption. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a carbon fiber precursor pitch which has a high carbon fiber precursor pitch, does not contain insoluble solids such as free carbon and ash, and has sufficient strength and elastic modulus when made into carbon fibers. .

Origin of the invention This invention involves the solvent extraction of tarpitz at high temperature.
Based on the new knowledge that if the process is carried out under high pressure, that is, in a critical state, the density of the solvent decreases and the sedimentation rate of solvent-insoluble components increases significantly, making it extremely easy to separate and remove these insoluble components. .

Structure of the Invention In other words, the present invention subjects tar pitch to extraction treatment in a critical state with an aromatic boiling point solvent to separate and remove solvent-insoluble components, and then further removes the solvent from the extract to produce pitch that does not contain free carbon. This is a method for producing a carbon fiber precursor pitch, which comprises preparing a carbon fiber precursor pitch and then subjecting the obtained pitch to a heat treatment.

According to the invention, solvent extraction is carried out in a critical state, i.e. after dissolving the tar pitch containing free carbon in 1 to 5 times the volume, preferably 2 to 2.5 times the volume of an aromatic low-boiling solvent such as gas light oil.
Free carbon in the pit can be effectively removed by heating it to 260-320℃ and pressurizing it at 30-60 atm. It has now become possible to easily produce a precursor pitch for carbon fibers that has good thermal stability, excellent spinnability and infusibility, and has a high carbonization yield without the need for carbonization.

In this invention, after the extraction process, the heat treatment applied to the pitch from which insoluble components have been separated and removed is carried out at a temperature of 350 to
More preferably, the heat treatment is carried out in a temperature range of 450°C.

Now, pitches usually contain free carbon, which is fine particles with a diameter of 1 μm or less, and inorganic substances, which become ash, as insoluble solids, but when such pitches are used as raw material pitch for carbon fiber, It is necessary to remove insoluble solids as described above. This is because the presence of such impurities in the pitch makes melt spinning difficult and also causes voids to occur in the carbon fibers and a decrease in strength.

In this regard, according to the extraction process in a critical state according to the present invention, not only free carbon and ash but also high molecular weight components present in the pitch are simultaneously separated and removed as solvent-insoluble components. As a result, even more excellent properties will be provided. In other words, the pitch from which the solvent-insoluble matter was removed as described above showed a marked improvement in thermal stability compared to the conventional pitch.

After that, the solvent is removed from the extract to make a pitch that does not contain free carbon, and this pitch is then heat-treated to remove low molecular weight components in the pitch and to make the pitch into a polymer. This is called a fiber precursor pitch.

In the precursor pitch preparation process, in order to effectively remove low molecular weight components in the pitch, the pitch must be heated at a temperature range of 350 to 450°C under reduced pressure or using Ar or N 2 gas. It is more preferable to conduct the process under bubbling of an inert gas such as, and the characteristics of the obtained precursor pitch are as follows.

The precursor pitch thus obtained can be spun at a temperature 40 to 50° C. higher than the softening point using normal melt spinnability, and the spun fibers can be infusible by air oxidation. After such infusibility treatment, carbon fibers can be obtained by raising the temperature to about 1000° C. in an inert gas atmosphere such as Ar or N 2 and sintering and carbonizing.

Effects of the Invention Thus, according to the present invention, by performing solvent extraction of tar pitch in a critical state, not only free carbon and ash but also high molecular weight components present in the pitch can be easily converted into solvent-insoluble components. In this way, all the properties required for a carbon fiber precursor pitch can be achieved without the need for special pitch preparation such as hydrogenation treatment, which was conventionally required to improve spinnability and infusibility. It is advantageous that it can be given.
