A pair of re-imaging lenses forms a first image and a second image, respectively, from the transmitted light that has passed through the photographing objective lens of a single-lens reflex camera. A focus detection device for a single-lens reflex camera that detects the in-focus state of an objective lens from changes in the positions of the first image and the second image with respect to a pair of photoelectric converters for image position detection arranged in the vicinity, for example. This is already known from Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 7323/1983.

Furthermore, when incorporating the above-mentioned focus detection device into a camera, it is also possible to place a field lens near the focus position of the objective lens to form an image of the pupil of the re-imaging lens near the pupil of the objective lens. It is publicly known from Publication No. 55-26516 and the like.

However, when attempting to incorporate this type of focus detection device into the bottom of the mirror box rather than within the viewfinder of the camera, there are drawbacks as described below. This will be explained according to FIG.

In FIG. 1, a portion of the light emitted from the photographing objective lens 1 passes through a quick return mirror 2 which can transmit light, and is reflected downward by a sub-mirror 3. A field lens 5 is arranged at a position conjugate with the film surface 4 with respect to the sub-mirror 3.
A subject image is formed at . The light emitted from this image is separated in the left and right longitudinal directions of the camera by a separation mirror 6, and a photoelectric converter 8, which is placed at or near the focal plane of this re-imaging lens, is used by a pair of re-imaging lenses 7, 7'. The image is re-imaged on 8'. Focus detection is performed by comparing the outputs of these photoelectric converters 8, 8'.

The disadvantage of such a device is that the submirror 3
Because it is difficult to place the field lens 5 in front of the optical axis of the objective lens 1 (in the direction in which the objective lens 1 exists) due to spatial constraints, the field lens 5 is positioned above the bottom of the mirror box of the camera. This means that it gets old or becomes near the bottom. As a result, the effective light emitted from the objective lens 1 and reaching the film surface 4 is vignetted during photographing, or the surface of the field lens 5 is close to these effective light beams, causing unnecessary flare and light to the photographic screen. There was a drawback that ghosts occurred.
In order to prevent these problems, it is conceivable to retract the field lens 5, for example, below the camera body during photographing, but this is not preferable as it imposes a large mechanical burden and also increases costs.

It is an object of the present invention to solve these drawbacks and to obtain a focus detection device that has a simple configuration and does not have any adverse effects during photographing.

The present invention will be explained with reference to the sectional view of FIG. 2 showing an embodiment. In this figure, the same symbols as in FIG. 1 have the same functions. In this embodiment, the surface of the sub-mirror 3 that is conjugate with the film surface 4 is the bottom surface 9 of the mirror box. And field lens 5
is disposed sunk in the bottom of the mirror box, and a field stop 10 is provided on a surface conjugate to the film surface 4.

With this configuration, even if the field lens 5 is not in a plane conjugate with the film surface 4, that is, in the focal plane of the objective lens 1, excess light is cut off by the field diaphragm 10, so that focus detection is possible. This will not cause any errors.

Furthermore, since the field lens 5 is placed below the bottom surface 9 of the mirror box, harmful light from the objective lens 1 and various surfaces inside the mirror box is reflected on the surface of the field lens 5 during photographing, and the film surface 4 However, since the field stop 10 also functions as a shielding plate against these harmful lights, the above-mentioned effects are further enhanced.

It should be noted that even if the field lens 5 does not exactly match the focal plane position of the objective lens 1, it should be configured so as to satisfy its function, that is, the pupil of the re-imaging lens 7 should be focused near the pupil of the objective lens 1. It is quite possible to determine the power of the field lens 5 so as to produce an image. Therefore, in order to bring about the above-mentioned effect, the original function of the field lens 5 is not impaired at all.

Further, the field stop 10 may be provided independently, but
As described in the description of this embodiment, it is advantageous to form the opening in the bottom surface 9 of the mirror box because the structure is simpler.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the field diaphragm is formed on the bottom surface of the mirror box itself, there is no need to provide the field diaphragm separately from the mirror box, and the configuration is simple. This field diaphragm prevents the light that passes through the photographic lens during photography from being reflected on the light incident surface of the field lens and being directed to the film surface as harmful light, allowing for accurate focusing. Can be detected.
