In electrostatic recording devices such as so-called electronic copying machines and electrostatic printers, a toner image is formed on a toner image carrier such as a photoconductive photoreceptor, and this is transferred and fixed onto a transfer material such as paper. Although a recorded matter is obtained, some toner remains on the toner image carrier even after the transfer. The remaining toner needs to be completely removed in preparation for repeated use of the toner image carrier, and is usually removed by scraping it off by pressing a flexible member called a cleaning blade against the surface of the rotating toner image carrier. It is undesirable to keep the blade in pressure contact all the time because it may cause pressure marks of the cleaning blade on the surface of the toner image carrier or the cleaning blade may become bent when the toner image carrier is stopped for a long time. For this reason, the cleaning blade is pressed against the cleaning blade only while the toner image bearing member is rotating, and the pressure contact is released when the toner image bearing member stops. Conventionally, the cleaning blade is pressed and released using a specially provided motor, electromagnetic clutch, solenoid, etc., but this method has disadvantages such as a complicated structure.

Furthermore, if the pressure of the cleaning blade is released when the toner image carrier is stopped, and then the pressure is applied again when the toner image carrier is restarted, it will accumulate on the tip of the cleaning blade, and when the pressure is released, it will form a line on the toner image carrier. This is the so-called "trampling" in which the re-pressed cleaning blade rides on the toner.
This causes incomplete cleaning, which may cause damage to the surface of the toner image carrier or stain the recorded matter.

This situation will be explained with reference to FIG. In FIG. 1, 1 is a toner image bearing member that rotates in the direction of arrow A, 2 is a cleaning blade, 3 is a cleaning blade holding member, and 4 is a hanging member. This shows the state of being pressed together. 5 is toner collected on the tip of the cleaning blade. The cleaning blade 2 is in a bent state pressed against the toner image carrier by the weight of the hanger 4.
To release the pressure contact of the cleaning blade, the rear part of the cleaning blade support member is rotated in the direction of arrow B by means not shown in the figure.

Now, when the rotation of the toner image bearing member is stopped from this state and the pressure release operation of the cleaning blade 2 is performed, the cleaning blade 2 moves to the position shown by the dashed line in the figure. Since the tip moves away from the surface of the toner image carrier 1 while recovering, its tip moves along a trajectory shown by T1 . The toner 5 collected at the tip of the cleaning blade remains attached to the toner image carrier 1 as it is.

When the cleaning blade 2 is returned to the pressure contact position for the next restart, the cleaning blade 2 moves without bending, so the trajectory of its tip is
T 2 , and the toner 5 adhering to the toner image carrier 1 is trampled underneath. If the toner image carrier is rotated as it is, the toner caught between the toner image carrier 1 and the cleaning blade 2 may rub and damage the surface of the toner image carrier, and some of it may remain attached to the surface of the toner image carrier. The process proceeds to the next step and causes the recorded material to become dirty.

In order to prevent this "stepping on", at the start of the recording operation, the toner image carrier is first reversed slightly to move the toner adhesion part to the front of the contact point of the cleaning blade, and then the cleaning blade is pressed into contact with the toner image carrier, and the toner image bearing member is moved in front of the contact point of the cleaning blade. The recording operation is started by starting the carrier in the forward direction, but it is necessary to avoid complicating the device such as controlling the rotating direction of the toner image carrier, the pressure contact of the cleaning blade, the starting and stopping mechanism, and the timing. I was in a place where I couldn't.

The cam 30 is fixed to the shaft 31 of a gear 32, which meshes with a gear 33 which is attached to the reversible motor via a one-way clutch 34. 34 is a shell type one-way clutch which is integrated with the gear 33, and transmits power only when the reversible motor 24 rotates in the direction of the dotted arrow (hereinafter referred to as the reverse rotation direction), and when the motor rotates in the direction of the solid arrow (hereinafter referred to as the reverse rotation direction). When rotating in the forward rotation direction (hereinafter referred to as "forward rotation direction"), it is installed so that it will not idle and transmit power.

FIG. 2 shows the state during copying operation, and shows the reversible motor 24 and photosensitive drum drive gears 22, 2.
3 is rotating in the forward direction, and the photosensitive drum 21 is also rotating in the forward direction. The cleaning blade is in pressure contact and the cam drive gear 33 is connected to the one-way clutch 34.
It is disconnected from the reversible motor and stopped. The toner image formed on the photosensitive drum 1 by the developing device 35 is transferred to the transfer material 3 by the transfer electrode 36.
The toner remaining on the photosensitive drum 1 to be transferred onto the photosensitive drum 7 is scraped off by the cleaning blade 26 and stored in the cleaning device 25.

When copying is completed, the reversible motor 24 is reversed and rotates in the reverse direction in response to a signal from the control section. Reverse rotation of the reversible motor 24 is achieved by a one-way clutch 34.
is transmitted to the cam drive gears 33 and 32 via the cam 3
0 in the direction of the dotted line arrow to push up the cleaning blade support member 27 to release the cleaning blade 26 from the photosensitive drum 21. During this time, the gear 23 and the photosensitive drum 21 also rotate a little in the opposite direction, and the toner pool that had adhered to the position where the tip of the cleaning blade touched moves downward in the figure. When the cam 30 rotates half a turn and reaches the position 30', the reversible motor 24 stops. At this time, the cleaning blade is at position 26' and the pressure contact is completely released. The reversible motor 24 stops for a period of time from the start of reverse rotation,
Control can be performed in various ways, such as by detecting the rotation angle of the shaft 31, the position of the cleaning blade support member 27, or the cam 30.

To start the next copy, first move the reversible motor 24.
As the reversible motor 24 rotates in the reverse direction, the cam drive gears 33 and 32 rotate, and the cam rotates from the 30' position to the 30 position, and the cleaning blade 26 descends and comes into pressure contact with the photosensitive drum 21. be done. Since the drum drive gear 23 also rotates in the same direction as the cam drive gear 33 (in the direction of the dotted arrow), the photosensitive drum also rotates slightly in the opposite direction, and the toner accumulated on the surface of the photosensitive drum created by the tip of the cleaning blade during the previous cleaning is further removed. Since it moves downward and away from the position where the cleaning blade 26 is pressed, there is no risk that the cleaning blade will come into contact with the clean photosensitive drum surface that has already been cleaned and "step on" the toner.

When the cam rotates half a turn and reaches position 30, the reversible motor 24 is reversed and continuously rotates in the forward direction, and the photosensitive drum 21 also rotates in the forward direction to begin the copying operation. During this time, the cam drive gears 32 and 33 do not rotate due to the action of the one-way clutch, and the cleaning blade 26 is maintained in a pressed state. The reversal timing of the reversible motor 24 may be controlled by the same method as in the case of stopping.
