(Prior art) In order to continuously obtain metal ingots such as aluminum or its alloys, many proposals have been made for continuous casting methods, semi-continuous casting methods, etc. (hereinafter collectively referred to as continuous casting). is being done. A typical example is as shown in U.S. Pat. No. 2,983,972, etc., in which a movable bottom stand (mold bottom) having a bowl-shaped or flat plate-shaped cross section is positioned at the bottom of a predetermined cylindrical mold. Then, one opening of the mold is closed, and molten metal is supplied into the mold through a nozzle and a float, while a coolant (usually water) flowing through the channel inside the mold is supplied by lowering the bottom one after another. ) and direct cooling by the coolant flowing out from the slit at the bottom (lower end) of the mold, the molten metal column formed in the mold is solidified, and the solidified ingot is poured into the mold. A predetermined ingot is obtained by continuously taking out the ingot from the bottom opening.

As disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 27672, Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 54-13422, Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 58-179540, etc., the short side of a rectangular mold can be moved to an arbitrary position. The so-called variable width mold is
It has received attention in recent years. However, if such a variable width mold is used, rectangular ingots having various ingot widths can be manufactured using one mold without replacing the mold.

(Problem to be solved) However, when casting a predetermined rectangular ingot using such a variable width mold device, it is necessary to move each short side part of the mold according to the size of the target ingot. However, in order to avoid the formation of a large curved recess in the center of the long sides of the obtained ingot due to shrinkage during cooling, the long sides of the mold are generally set so that the opposing inner wall surfaces are at the center. It is not possible to simply move the short side of the mold along the long side as it is formed with a curvature that is farthest apart at the end and approaches each other as it approaches the end. For this reason, in the case of conventional variable width mold equipment,
Each time the width of the ingot changes, the bolts fixing the short and long sides of the mold are loosened or removed to make them movable, and the short and long sides are moved to the specified position. After moving to the desired position, a structure is adopted in which the short and long sides are fixed again using bolts, etc. However, in all of these conventional methods, the short and long sides cannot be moved. It is time-consuming and troublesome as it requires releasing and re-fixing each of the short side portions and long side portions, and it is not possible to quickly adjust the ingot width, in other words, the mold width. It was not.

and the guide member 22, the two long side members 4, 4 are moved a predetermined distance in a direction in which they are separated. At this time, since the support members 12, 12 at both ends of the short side member 6 are slidably fitted into the sliders 36, 36, which constitute the second slide mechanism, respectively,
Both ends of the short side member 6 are supported while allowing such movement of the long side members 4, 4 in the direction of separation without any interference. Then, such two long side members 4, 4
Due to the separating operation, the inner wall surface of each long side member 4 is separated from the end surface of the short side member 6, and when the short side member 6 is moved later, damage (scratches) to the inner wall surface is avoided.
At the same time, the distance between the long side members 4, which changes due to the movement of the short side member 6, is adjusted.

As described above, after the long side members 4, 4 are moved and separated by the long side opening/closing mechanism 24, a spanner or the like is engaged with the hexagonal head-shaped acting portion 50 of the drive shaft 46. By tightening it and rotating it, the pinions 44, 44 attached to the drive shaft 46 are rotated.
By moving the racks 40, 40 that engage with the racks 4, 44, the short side members 6 attached to the racks 40, 40 are moved to a predetermined position.

Thus, the movement of the short side member 6 accompanying the movement of the rack 40 is smoothly performed due to the presence of the second slide mechanism. That is, the movement of the short side member 6 by the pushing and pulling action of the rack 40 is caused by the movement of the short side member 6 by the support members 12, 12 at both ends thereof.

In addition, the rack 40 that has been moved by the rotation of the pinion 44 is held in a state where it is engaged with the pinion 44, so that its position is effectively fixed, and henceforth. Thus, effective fixation of the short side member 6 in the moved position is achieved. Note that the amount of movement of the short side member 6 will naturally correspond to the desired width of the ingot;
The amount of movement is adjusted based on marks or scales provided on the long side member 4, or based on the amount of rotation of the drive shaft 46, etc.

Next, after the short side members 6 are moved by the rack and pinion mechanism and held in a fixed position, the long side opening/closing mechanisms 24, 24 disposed at both ends of the long side members 4, 4 are moved again. By rotating the opening/closing levers 30, 30 in the direction of arrow B, the connecting rods 32, 32 connected to the rotating plate 29 can be adjusted so that the distance between their pivot points 33, 33 is adjusted. By rotating the connecting rods 32, 32 so as to make them shorter, and pulling the supporting members 8, 8 of the long side members 4 attached to the ends of the connecting rods 32, 32,
The long side members 4 are brought close to each other, and the inner wall surface of each long side member 4 is brought into close contact with both end surfaces of the short side member 6. When the long side members 4, 4 approach each other (close the mold), the first slide mechanism 20,
22 and the second slide mechanisms 12, 36, their operation can be performed smoothly without any interference.
