In the block polymerization method, an acrylic monomer and a polymerization catalyst are placed in a reaction tank or mold, heated to a constant temperature, and polymerized. In the solution polymerization method, an acrylic monomer, a polymerization catalyst, and a solvent are placed in a reaction tank and heated to a constant temperature while stirring to polymerize. Further, in the emulsion polymerization method, an acrylic monomer and a polymerization catalyst are emulsified in water using an emulsifier, and the emulsion is heated to a constant temperature while stirring to polymerize. Further, Japanese Patent Publication No. 12315/1983 describes a method of block polymerizing acrylic monomers using an extruder.

That is, in the block polymerization method, there are problems in that acrylic monomers generate a large amount of heat during polymerization, making it difficult to control the temperature, making it easy for the polymerization reaction to run out of control, and making it difficult to obtain a homogeneous product with a desired degree of polymerization. In addition, in the solution polymerization method diluted with a solvent, temperature control is easier than in the block polymerization method, but the temperature control is still insufficient and it is difficult to obtain the desired degree of polymerization. In this case, chain transfer to the solvent occurs,
There is a problem that it is easy to gel and therefore a product of constant quality cannot be obtained. In addition, as a method to eliminate such drawbacks,
No. 2315 describes a method of block polymerization using an extruder instead of a reaction tank. In this method, the crosstalk of the extruder makes it easy to control the temperature from the barrel, making it easier to obtain the desired degree of polymerization. The problem is that you can't get anything. The emulsion polymerization method has a problem in that emulsifiers are mixed into the polymerized acrylic polymer, resulting in only products with poor performance. Acrylic polymers used in pressure-sensitive adhesives include:
Linear acrylic polymers are desirable because they are less prone to gelation and can yield products of consistent quality, but polymers produced by the above method are polymerized at high temperatures, so they all require different gelling techniques. There was a problem that the polymer was easily produced and a polymer of constant quality could not be obtained. In addition, all of the above methods require a large amount of time and thermal energy because polymerization is carried out by heating for a long time. An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus capable of producing an acrylic polymer free from the above-mentioned problems, and a method for producing an acrylic polymer free from the above-mentioned problems using this apparatus. That is, the present invention provides an apparatus that can polymerize in a short time and produce linear acrylic polymers of constant quality without the polymerization reaction going out of control, and a method for producing acrylic polymers using the apparatus. The purpose is to

In addition, the method for producing the acrylic polymer of the present invention involves passing a mixture of a liquid containing an acrylic monomer as a main component and an initiator into an extruder whose barrel is made of a material that transmits ultraviolet rays. This mixture is irradiated with ultraviolet rays from outside to polymerize the acrylic monomer. In the present invention, a material that passes ultraviolet rays is defined as a material that has a wavelength of 4
Examples of materials that can transmit ultraviolet light of 00 nm or less include quartz, borosilicate glass known as Pyrex glass, and soda glass used for window glass and bottles. Further, the extruder used in the present invention may be a single-screw extruder, or may be a one- or two-screw extruder. However, the acrylic monomer gradually polymerizes in the extruder, increasing its viscosity.
A twin-screw extruder is preferred because it can reliably feed acrylic monomers and polymers whose viscosity increases in a certain amount at a time, and has the property of reducing backflow, stagnation, and non-uniform mixing. In the present invention, the acrylic monomer may be an acrylic monomer alone, or may be a mixture of an acrylic monomer and a monomer copolymerizable with this monomer. here,
The acrylic monomer refers to an ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and alcohol. Such acrylic monomers are preferably esters of alkyl alcohols having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, such as butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, isooctyl acrylate, isononyl acrylate, and isobornyl acrylate. used. Furthermore, acrylic monomers that provide a low Tg, such as tetrahydrofurfuryl acrylate and polypropylene glycol acrylate, are preferred because they exhibit good adhesive properties. Further, in the present invention, acrylic ester and methacrylic ester may be used alone or in combination. The best monomer copolymerizable with the acrylic monomer is monoethylenically unsaturated heptamer. This monoethylenically unsaturated heptamer contains acrylic acid,
methacrylic acid, acrylamide, acrylonitrile,
methacrylnitrile, N-substituted acrylamide, hydroxyethyl acrylate, N-vinylpyrrolidinone, maleic acid, itaconic acid, N-methylol acrylamide,
Examples include hydroxymethyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate. In the present invention, the preferred mixing ratio of the acrylic monomer and the copolymerizable monomer is 60 to 100% by weight of the acrylic monomer and 40 to 0% by weight of the copolymerizable monomer. In the present invention, ultraviolet light has a wavelength of 400 nm or less. The light source that generates this ultraviolet light is 1.
Ultra-high pressure mercury lamp, high pressure mercury lamp, medium pressure mercury lamp, low pressure mercury lamp,
There are metal halide lamps, chemical lamps, black light lamps, etc. The irradiation intensity of this ultraviolet rays may be set as appropriate, but in order to obtain a polymer with good performance as a pressure-sensitive adhesive, the irradiation intensity on the barrel surface of the extruder should be 0.1 to 300 mW/c.
In the present invention, the initiator refers to a common initiator used for ultraviolet curing in the field of inks and paints, and the initiator used in the present invention includes: In order to complete the reaction sufficiently, a cleavage-type initiator is preferable to a hydrogen abstraction-type initiator. Preferred examples of the initiator of the present invention include initiators that have high photoexcitation activity and are less inhibited by oxygen. Preferred are acetophenone initiators such as hydroxyalkylphenones, benzoin ether initiators such as alkylbenzoin ethers, penzyl dialkyl kecool initiators, acyl oxime ester initiators, and halogenated ketones. There are initiators, cleavage-type initiators such as hydroxyalkylstyrene oligomer initiators, acylphosphine oxyto initiators, and acyl phosphonate initiators. The amount of this initiator used is 100 parts by weight of the acrylic monomer. The amount of initiator is preferably 0.01 to 8 parts by weight, more preferably 0.2 to 5 parts by weight. If the amount of this initiator is small, the molecular weight of the produced polymer will be high. , unreacted particles tend to remain. Also,
When the amount of initiator increases, the reaction is sufficiently completed, but the molecular weight of the produced polymer becomes smaller. In addition, in the present invention,
If no solvent is used and the polymerization is a partial polymerization, the amount of initiator used can be much lower than the amounts mentioned above. Further, in the present invention, the mixture of the acrylic monomer and the initiator is used after being diluted with an appropriate solvent, if necessary. At this time, the solvents used are benzene,
Toluene, xylene, pentane, hexane, heptane,
Solvents used during polymerization in a normal solution polymerization reaction tank, such as cyclohexane, ethyl acetate, methyl acetate, and butyl acetate, are used as they are, and are appropriately selected depending on the purpose. When using polymers produced by polymerization using solvents for pressure-sensitive adhesive films, tapes, etc., even if the reaction conversion rate of the acrylic monomer is 100% or close to 100%, the viscosity will not be that high. Since it does not rise, if this is applied directly onto a film or the like and heated to remove the solvent, a film coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive containing an acrylic polymer as a main component can be obtained. The amount of the solvent used is preferably 300 parts by weight or less per 100 parts by weight of the acrylic monomer. Further, in the present invention, a mixture of an acrylic monomer and an initiator can also be used without using a solvent. When using acrylic polymers produced by polymerization without the use of solvents as pressure-sensitive adhesive films or tapes, it is difficult to apply them onto the film if the viscosity is too high, so partial polymerization is necessary. It is desirable to stop the reaction at this stage. At this time, the reaction conversion rate is preferably 1 to 30%. At this time, in order to produce an acrylic polymer with a desired reaction conversion rate, the following procedure may be used. That is, since the present invention involves photopolymerization, the reaction occurs only when irradiated with ultraviolet light. Therefore, by changing the irradiation intensity of ultraviolet rays or changing the flow rate of the acrylic monomer in the extruder,
By controlling the ultraviolet irradiation time, the conversion rate can be appropriately controlled. If there is insufficient initiator in the partially polymerized product produced in this way, add more initiator, apply this partially polymerized product to a film, etc., and then irradiate it with ultraviolet rays to complete the polymerization. A film coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive is produced. Since the present invention involves a photopolymerization reaction, no heating device is required in the extruder. However, a cooling device may be provided within the extruder or the like in order to remove heat of polymerization and heat from kneading. In the case of partial polymerization, the purpose of cooling is to prevent evaporation of monos, mer, etc. discharged from the extruder, and to prevent shrinkage distortion after the polymer is coated on the film. Furthermore, in the present invention, a molecular weight regulator, a tackifier, etc. can be mixed into the acrylic monomer as necessary. This molecular weight regulator is a compound with a high chain transfer coefficient, and as the amount of this molecular weight regulator increases, the molecular weight of the resulting acrylic polymer decreases. can control the molecular weight of Such molecular weight regulators include sulfur compounds such as lauryl mercaptan, thioglycolic acid, butyl mercaptan, and thiophosphite. Tackifiers that increase the tackiness of the produced acrylic polymer include rosin resins, hydrogenated rosin systems, terpene resin systems, aromatic modified terpene systems, petroleum resin systems, coumaron systems, There are tackifiers such as phenol type. Furthermore, fillers, pigments, etc. can be added into the acrylic monomer or into the produced acrylic polymer. In addition, in the present invention, in order to improve the adhesive properties of the produced acrylic polymer, 1. A crosslinking agent used in ordinary solvent-based adhesives is blended into the produced acrylic polymer. be able to.

In addition, in the present invention, since the acrylic monomer is passed through the extruder, the acrylic monomer inside is sufficiently agitated by the kneading action of the extruder. The monomer is uniformly polymerized to the inside. In other words, in conventional polymerization by UV irradiation, only the surface is irradiated with UV rays, and the inside is not sufficiently irradiated, so polymerization by UV irradiation was performed for inks and paints with thin coatings, but polymerization by UV irradiation was performed in a normal reaction tank. Polymerization methods using ultraviolet light have not been used because they are not suitable for large-scale polymerization. However, in the present invention, this problem is solved by using an extruder whose barrel is made of a material that transmits ultraviolet rays, and by achieving uniform mixing due to crosstalk of the extruder. In the present invention, since polymerization is performed using ultraviolet rays, the reaction proceeds at room temperature, unlike when polymerization is performed using a normal catalyst. Therefore, a linear polymer is produced, gelation does not occur, and a good pressure-sensitive adhesive product with constant quality can be obtained. In the present invention, since polymerization is carried out using ultraviolet rays, the reaction conversion rate and the like can be controlled arbitrarily by changing the irradiation amount of ultraviolet rays, the irradiation intensity of ultraviolet rays, and the extrusion speed. When a mixture of an acrylic monomer and a solvent is used in the present invention, the viscosity does not increase significantly even at a high reaction conversion rate of 95% or more, and the mixture can be easily coated onto a film, etc. I can do it. In the present invention, when polymerization is carried out using only the acrylic monomer without using a solvent, by stopping the polymerization with partial polymerization such that the reaction conversion rate is, for example, 30% or less,
It can be coated onto a film, etc. without increasing the viscosity that much, and if there is insufficient initiator, add an initiator to this partially polymerized product and apply it on the film to form a partially polymerized acrylic monomer. Polymerization can be completed by irradiating it with ultraviolet light again. In the present invention, since photopolymerization is carried out at a high reaction rate, the reaction can be carried out in a short period of time while the acrylic monomer passes through the extruder.

る。Examples will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram illustrating an embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, A is an extruder, which consists of a barrel 1 and a screw 3. Barrel 1 is made of Pyrex glass, a material that allows ultraviolet rays to pass through. Further, the screw 3 has two shafts and is made of stainless steel. 2 is an ultraviolet irradiation device in which a chemical lamp is installed. This ultraviolet irradiation device 2 is connected to the extruder A.
Ultraviolet rays are irradiated from the outer peripheral surface of the barrel 1 to polymerize the acrylic monomer inside. 4 is a gear, and if you rotate the shaft of one screw,
The shaft of the other screw also rotates. 5 is a mixing tank, into which an acrylic monomer, an initiator, and if necessary, a solvent, a molecular weight regulator, a tackifier, etc. are charged. A stirrer 6 stirs the mixture of acrylic monomers and the like in the blending tank 5 to form a uniform solution. 7 is a mixture of an initiator and a liquid whose main component is an acrylic monomer to which a solvent, a molecular regulator, a tackifier, etc. are added as necessary. 8 is a pump that pumps the mixture 7 into the extruder A. 9 is a nitrogen cylinder, which injects nitrogen into the mixture 7 to drive out the oxygen that inhibits the polymerization reaction dissolved in the mixture 7, and allows the polymerization reaction to proceed smoothly. It is. Next, using the apparatus of this example, the polymerization method, action, and usage of the acrylic monomer will be explained. The composition of the mixture 7 is an acrylic monomer, an initiator, and if necessary, a solvent, a molecular regulator, and a tackifier in a mixing tank 5.
While stirring the mixture with the stirrer 6, nitrogen is injected into the mixture 7 from the nitrogen cylinder 8. Once the oxygen in the mixture 7 has been sufficiently removed and the mixture 7 has become sufficiently homogeneous, the mixture 7 is forced into the extruder A using the pump 8. The mixture 7 press-fitted into the extruder A is moved to the tip of the extruder A while being kneaded by the screw 3. While this mixture 7 is moving to the tip of extruder A,
The mixture 7 is irradiated with ultraviolet light from the outside of the barrel 1 by the ultraviolet irradiation device 2 . Then, the acrylic monomer in the mixture 7 polymerizes, and the viscosity gradually increases.
Mixture 7 is forcefully moved to the tip by extruder A. In particular, in the case of a twin-screw pusher, there is less backflow, stagnation, and non-uniform mixing, so the mixture 7 can be reliably moved to the tip. At this time, since the barrel 1 is made of a material that transmits ultraviolet rays,
Even if ultraviolet rays are irradiated from outside the barrel 1, the ultraviolet rays reach the mixture 7. When the mixture 7 is irradiated from outside the barrel, only the mixture 7 near the barrel 1 is irradiated with ultraviolet rays and polymerized, but due to the kneading action of the extruder A, the mixture 7 on the surface and inside is sufficiently mixed. Polymerization takes place homogeneously. The mixture 7 sequentially moves to the tip of the extruder A and is finally taken out from the tip of the extruder A. By adjusting the irradiation intensity of this ultraviolet ray and the extrusion speed, a liquid having an arbitrary reaction conversion rate can be obtained. Since the acrylic polymer obtained in this way is polymerized at low temperature, it becomes a linear acrylic back polymer.
You can get products of constant quality. If the pressure-sensitive adhesive produced in this way is to be applied onto a film for +1 use, an acrylic polymer with a viscosity of 80% is produced by applying it onto the film. In other words, it is necessary to increase the reaction conversion rate for those containing a solvent, and to decrease the reaction conversion rate for those that do not contain a solvent, to produce an acrylic polymer with an appropriate viscosity. Next, the acrylic polymer manufactured to an appropriate viscosity is coated onto the film, and if the reaction conversion rate is low, an initiator is added if necessary, and the polymerization is completed by irradiation with ultraviolet rays. , Gj containing a solvent is heated to remove the solvent to produce a pressure-sensitive adhesive film with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer provided on the film. By winding this into a roll and cutting it into a certain width, a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape can be manufactured. Next, specific examples will be described. In this example, adhesive force, cohesive force, and residual monomer were measured using the following methods. (Measurement method) Adhesive crab: Paste a 15 mm wide tape on a stainless steel plate and roll a 2 kg roller over it to firmly adhere the tape to the stainless steel plate. After 30 minutes, the tip of the tape was bent 180° and the tip was peeled off at a tensile speed of 300 mm/min.
The resistance force was measured using a tensile tester and was defined as the adhesive force. Glue one end of the holding crab 25mm wide tape with an area of 25m.
It was attached to a stainless steel plate with a size of 25 mm x 25 mm, held horizontally, a load of 1 kg was applied to the other end, and was hung vertically in an atmosphere at 40° C., and the falling time was taken as the holding force. Molecular weight 2 The molecular weight was measured using a standard polystyrene as a reference by a known GPC method. Residual monomer: Residual monomer was measured using a gas chromatograph. Example 1 Monomer mixture 1o consisting of 95 parts by weight of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and 5 parts by weight of acrylic acid. 100 parts by weight of ethyl acetate as a solvent,
0.2 parts by weight of benzyl methyl ketal as an initiator was placed in a blending tank to form a mixture of an initiator and a liquid containing an acrylic monomer as a main component. Nitrogen was injected into the mixture while stirring to thoroughly remove dissolved oxygen. This mixture was applied to a screw with an outer diameter of 60 mm and a length of 300 m.
A pump was used to press the mixture into a twin-screw extruder having a Pyrex glass barrel with a thickness of 20 mm at a flow rate of 50 cc/min, and the mixture was moved to the tip of the extruder A using a screw 3. The mixture inside the extruder was irradiated with ultraviolet light from outside the barrel using an ultraviolet lamp (chemical lamp) to polymerize the acrylic monomer. At that time, the irradiation intensity of ultraviolet rays on the barrel surface is lOmW/
cm", and the time required for the acrylic monomer to enter and exit the extruder was 10 minutes. The viscosity of the solvent-containing acrylic polymer coming out from the tip of extruder A was 2000 cps, Conversion rate is 9
8%, and the weight average molecular weight was 60,000. This experiment was repeated -5 times, and the same results were obtained all five times. 0.5 parts by weight of acetylacetoaluminum salt is added to 100 parts by weight of this solvent-containing acrylic polymer, and this is applied onto a 25 μm thick polyester film.
It was heated and dried at 100° C. for 3 minutes with forced ventilation open. The thickness of the resulting acrylic polymer pressure-sensitive adhesive layer was 3
It was 5 μm. The thus obtained polyester film provided with the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer was wound into a roll and cut into a 25 mm width to produce a tape. After this tape was left at room temperature for one day, the adhesive strength and holding power were measured. The adhesion force when it comes to contact is 1100kg/25mm width,
Retention was 24 hours. Example 2 Polymerization was carried out in the same manner as in Example 1, except that a monomer mixture consisting of 96 parts by weight of butyl acrylate, 3 parts by weight of acrylic acid, and 0.5 parts by weight of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate was used as the acrylic monomer. The viscosity of the obtained solvent-containing acrylic polymer was 1500,
Reaction conversion rate to polymer is 98%, weight average molecular weight is 5
It was 0,000. This experiment was conducted five times, and the same results were obtained all five times. A tape was produced in the same manner as in Example 1 by adding 0.5 parts by weight of tolylene diisocyanate to 100 parts by weight of this solvent-containing acrylic polymer. After this tape was left at room temperature for one day, the adhesive strength and holding power were measured. The adhesion force when it comes to contact is 1200kg/25mm width,
The holding force was such that the weight did not fall even after 24 hours had passed. Example 3 0.005 parts by weight of benzyl dimethyl ketal was blended as an initiator to 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture consisting of 95 parts by weight of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and 5 parts by weight of acrylic acid, and an acrylic monomer was used as the main component. A mixture of a liquid and an initiator was prepared. Place this mixture in a mixing tank, inject nitrogen gas,
Oxygen dissolved in this mixture was sufficiently removed. Using the same equipment as in Example 1, this mixture was supplied to the extruder with a pump at a rate of 200 cc/min, and irradiated with ultraviolet rays at an irradiation intensity of 10 mW/cm''.This mixture entered the extruder. It took 10 minutes to release the partially polymerized monomer solution. The viscosity of the partially polymerized monomer solution obtained here was 1500.
cps, the reaction conversion rate to polymer was 5.5%, and the degree of polymerization of the polymer portion was 1.5 million. This experiment was conducted five times, and the same results were obtained all five times. A photoreactive adhesive was prepared by adding 0.15 parts by weight of hexanediol diacrylate and 0.5 parts by weight of benzyl dimethyl ketal to 100 parts by weight of this partially polymerized polymer. This photoreactive adhesive is applied onto a 50 μm thick polyester film, and the release agent side of the 50 μm thick polyester film with a release agent on one side is in contact with the photoreactive adhesive. In this manner, a laminate was manufactured by laminating. This laminate was irradiated with a chemical lamp having a center intensity of wavelength 365 nm for 8 minutes at a surface irradiation intensity of 3.5 mW/cm''.The gel fraction of the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape thus obtained was 82. %, and the holding force is that the weight does not fall even after 24 hours,
The adhesive force was 1100 g/25 mm width. Comparative Example 2 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture consisting of 95 parts by weight of ethylhexyl acrylate and 5 parts by weight of acrylic acid, 100 parts by weight of ethyl acetate as an organic solvent, and 0.04 parts by weight of azoisobutyronitrile as a thermal polymerization initiator. part was blended. Put 1000 grams of this mixture into a 2-liter separable flask, blow in nitrogen gas to thoroughly remove dissolved oxygen, heat it to 60°C in a hot water bath, and put it in and out of the hot water bath. The temperature of the mixture was controlled at 60"C. It took 10 hours to achieve 97% polymerization. The weight average molecular weight of the obtained acrylic polymer was 500,000. This experiment was repeated 5 times. As a result, in one of these experiments, a runaway reaction occurred during the reaction, and the resulting acrylic polymer was partially gelled (gel fraction was 30%).
), there were particles in the liquid. To 100 parts by weight of the acrylic polymer solution produced in this way, 0.0% tolylene isodiisocyanate was added as a crosslinking agent.
A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape was produced by adding 5 parts by weight of the mixture, applying it to a 25 μm thick polyester film, winding it into a roll, and cutting it into a 25 mm width. The thickness of the pressure sensitive adhesive layer at this time was 35 μm. As a result of measuring the performance of this tape, the holding power was 24 hours or more for both gelled and non-gelled tapes, but the adhesive strength of the gelled tape was 600g/
25mm wide, non-gelled one weighs 1000g
/25mm width, and those that were gelled were bad. As described above, in conventional solution polymerization, it is difficult to suppress runaway reactions, and as a result, the performance of gelled pressure-sensitive adhesives and non-gelled pressure-sensitive adhesives differs, resulting in large variations in product performance. In order to prevent this runaway reaction, the polymerization must be carried out under mild polymerization conditions, resulting in a problem that the reaction time becomes longer and productivity cannot be increased. or,
Normal solution polymerization also requires a large amount of thermal energy, but by prolonging the polymerization reaction, there is a problem that an additional large amount of thermal energy and cooling energy for polymerization control are required, which is uneconomical. . (Effects of the Invention) When the apparatus of the present invention is used, polymerization can be performed using ultraviolet rays at room temperature, so that a linear acrylic polymer with stable quality can be produced. Further, in the present invention 2, since the polymerization is carried out using ultraviolet rays, the polymerization time is short and the acrylic polymer can be produced extremely efficiently. Further, in the present invention, since the acrylic polymer can be continuously produced using an extruder, the subsequent production of adhesive tapes and the like can be carried out in a continuous process, which is extremely convenient. In addition, in the present invention, since the polymerization time is short and the acrylic polymer can be produced at room temperature, less energy is consumed than in the conventional polymerization which takes a long time at high temperature.
