[Problems to be solved by the invention] By the way, in the liquid crystal display panel having the above structure, the adhesive layer 4 and the conductive rubber 7, which function as spacers, surround the periphery of the upper electrode substrate 2 with a constant width. Therefore, the disadvantage is that the liquid crystal display area becomes smaller. Sometimes the conductive rubber 7 acts as a blind spot for the viewer. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the upper and lower electrode substrates 2 and 8 are made of glass plates, and therefore have the disadvantage of being easily broken by impact.

The present invention has been made to improve these drawbacks, and the two upper and lower electrode substrates are made of impact-resistant plastic plates that are easy to form. This structure has been modified to expand the display area of the upper and lower electrode substrates.

[Embodiment] Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained based on drawings showing one embodiment. Fig. 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view when applied to an electronic wristwatch, where 2 is an upper electrode substrate, 8 is a lower electrode substrate, and Also plastic plates, such as polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, polyether sulfone, polycarbonate, etc.

Reference numeral 7 denotes a conductive rubber located at the lower part of the reflective plate 9, and when viewed from above, almost overlaps with the adhesive layer 4 and located at the periphery of the display pattern. The electrode contacts the end portion 3a of the upper transparent electrode pattern 3 provided inside the upper electrode substrate 2, supports the reflective plate 9 on the upper surface, contacts the IC case 10 on the inner surface, and is disposed on the circuit board 13 on the lower surface. It functions to connect the IC 10 and the upper transparent electrode pattern 3 by contacting the lead wire 12 of the IC 11 provided therein. That is, the conductive rubber 7 is an IC as an electric circuit for driving the device.
11 and the transparent electrode pattern 3 of the upper electrode substrate 2, and corresponds to the above-mentioned conductive member. Further, 15 is a support frame, and the liquid crystal display panel is fixed to the wristwatch main body 14 via screws 16.

Although the external size is the same as in Figure 1, the display area is expanded by the width of the conductive rubber 7, and along with this, display symbols, numbers, etc. can be displayed in a larger size. In addition, if the display area is not expanded, the overall size of the liquid crystal display device should be reduced by the conductive rubber 7
The width of the device can be reduced by the width of the device, and the device can be made smaller and lighter.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view showing another embodiment of the present invention. This example is slightly different from the example shown in FIG. 2, in that the lower electrode substrate 8 has a periphery bent almost vertically downward like the upper electrode substrate 2 to form a vertical frame 8a, and a fixed frame 8a surrounding the outside of the vertical frame 8a. The structure is such that a liquid crystal layer 5 filled with liquid crystal is formed through an insulating adhesive layer 4 having a thickness of 100 mm, and is fitted into the vertical frame 2a of the upper electrode substrate 2. Therefore, the polarizing plate 1a is coated on the surface of the lower electrode substrate 8 opposite to the liquid crystal layer 5, and the reflecting plate 9 is further coated on the polarizing plate 1a.
As shown in the figure, the lower electrode substrate 2 is configured to fit within the vertical frame 8a, and in this example as well, the lower electrode substrate 2 is placed within the vertical frame 2a formed by bending the periphery of the upper electrode substrate 2 in the downward vertical direction. 8 is fitted, and the conductive rubber 7 is also disposed at the lowest position within the vertical frame 2a.As with the example shown in FIG. This allows display symbols, numbers, etc. to be displayed in a larger size, and if the display area is kept the same as before, the external size can be reduced and the device can be made smaller and lighter.

[Effects of the invention] As described above, the present invention, in a liquid crystal display panel of a liquid crystal display device, has both the upper and lower electrode substrates made of plastic plates, and the periphery of the upper electrode substrate is bent vertically downward to form a vertical frame. A lower electrode substrate is fitted onto the lower electrode substrate, and a conductive member is disposed below the lower end surface of the upper electrode substrate for connecting the transparent electrode of the upper electrode substrate to the electric circuit for driving the device. Therefore, if the external shape of the device is kept the same as before, the display area can be increased by expanding the area of the lower electrode substrate that faces the upper electrode substrate through the liquid crystal material, and the size of display symbols, numbers, etc. can be increased. On the other hand, if the display area is kept the same as before, the external size of the device can be reduced to make it smaller and lighter. Another advantage is that there is no risk of breakage compared to those using glass plates as electrode substrates.
