Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily find a troubled light emitting diode by arranging a semi- transparent reflecting mirror between a light emitting diode array and short- focused image forming element arrays, using a transmitting light beam among projected light as a light beam writing a photosensitive body and making a reflected light beam incident on a photosensor array. CONSTITUTION:The semi-transparent reflecting mirror 5 is arranged between the light emitting diode array 2 and the short-focused image forming element arrays 3 and 4, and light transmitting the semi-transparent reflecting mirror 5 is sent to the photosensitive body 1 as writing light to form an electrostatic latent image. Light reflected from the semi-transparent reflecting mirror 5 is projected as checking light on the short-focused image forming element array 4 provided for a branched optical system and the photosensor array 6. A signal outputted therefrom detects whether the light emitting diode array 2 is troubled or not, and each element in the light emitting diode array 2 is accorded with each element in the photosensor array 6, and both of them are operated simultaneously. Thus, the troubled light emitting diode array can be finded readily.

A light emitting diode array that forms an electrical latent image on a photoreceptor typically has 240 or more light emitting diode elements per inch arranged in a length of approximately 8 to 5 inches, each of which responds to an image signal. An electrical latent image of the image is formed on the photoreceptor by blinking the element, but in this case, if even one defective light emitting diode element occurs, a so-called black streak will appear in the image area corresponding to this element (in the case of regular development). Alternatively, white spots (in the case of reversal development) may occur, resulting in printing defects. For this reason, it is important to discover faulty elements at an early stage. Conventionally, a method has been used in which a print sample is prepared and then visually inspected for printing defects such as black streaks and white spots.

As mentioned above, if a failure occurs in the elements that make up the light emitting diode array, it will immediately result in a printing defect, so even one defect must be detected as soon as possible. It was difficult to determine whether the cause was a defect in the light emitting diode element or another factor such as the developing device or photoreceptor.

The present invention includes a light emitting diode array and a short focus imaging element array that emit light according to printed information, and projects light from the light emitting diode array onto a photoreceptor via the short focus imaging element array to generate an electrostatic charge. In an optical print head that forms a latent image, a semi-transparent reflector is provided between the light emitting diode array and the short focus imaging element array, and the light passing through the semi-transparent reflector is used for writing. An optical path for forming the electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor through a focusing imaging element array, and a short focusing imaging element array and a photoconductor provided in a branching optical system for checking the light reflected from the semi-transparent reflecting mirror. The light emitting diode array is projected onto a sensor array, and has an optical path for detecting the presence or absence of a failure in the light emitting diode array based on the output signal of the photosensor array. By operating it, we aim to achieve our goals.

The optical print head of the present invention takes advantage of the property of a semi-transparent reflector to split one light into transmitted light and reflected light, and is provided between a light emitting diode array and a short focus imaging element array to form one light emitting diode. Of the light projected from the array, the transmitted light is used as writing light to form an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor, and the other reflected light is made incident on a photo sensor array that operates in correspondence with each element of the light emitting diode array to output its output. Since the quality of the light emitting diode array is determined by using the light emitting diode array, it is possible to perform printing using one transmitted light while simultaneously checking the operation of the light emitting diode array element using the other reflected light, making it possible to check the operation of the light emitting diode array element by printing samples. This is not necessary and can improve work efficiency.
