Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive the reduction in manufacture/adjustment cost by constituting a signal bypass switch used in terminal stations connected to a loop optical network by a power failure detection control circuit. CONSTITUTION:The optical communication bypass switch 1 consists of an electric changeover switch circuit 2, a battery backup power supply circuit 3 and a power failure detection control circuit 4. An optical signal from an optical fiber cable 5 is converted into an electric signal by an O/E converter 6, which is connected to a reception signal line 7 and a power supply line 8, and an E/O converter 10 outputting an optical signal to an optical fiber cable 9 is connected to a transmission signal line 11 and a power supply line 12. A terminal equipment 13 receives a reception data 14, a transmission data 15 and a bypass control signal 16 through a power line 17. The bypass switch 1 is constituted by a power failure detection control circuit 4 in this way, then the optical loop network is constituted without any relay amplifier, the structure is simplified and the manufacture/adjustment cost is reduced, as well.

Conventionally, the bypass switch for this type of loop-shaped optical network has generally been an optical switch system that directly switches the optical fiber transmission line using an optical system such as a prism.

The conventional bypass relays mentioned above use an optical switch method and use mechanical and optical methods, resulting in high manufacturing and adjustment costs and, in principle, cannot amplify light intensity. Therefore, the optical fiber length is limited by the total length of the bypass. In other words, when a loop network is configured using optical fibers, the total length of the optical fiber that can be transmitted must be determined assuming that signal bypass occurs at each end station, and the Amplification devices are often required.

As explained above, in the present invention, by configuring a bypass switch using a power failure detection control circuit, the E/○ converter and the 0/'E converter can be operated even during bypass, so there is no need for a relay amplifier. An optical loop network can be constructed, and the structure is simple.
This has the effect of reducing manufacturing and adjustment costs. Further, the battery backup time can be determined depending on the use of the system, and an optimal optical communication bypass switch can be created depending on the use.
