Description
The present invention relates to a charged particle beam irradiation system and a charged particle beam irradiation method.
Conventionally, as a charged particle beam irradiation system that treats a patient's affected area by irradiating the affected area with a charged particle beam, for example, the device described in
The magnetic flux density of the scanning electromagnet changes depending on the scanning speed (excitation frequency) due to the influence of eddy currents, etc. Therefore, depending on the scanning speed, an error occurs between the actual scanning position of the charged particle beam and the pre-planned scanning position. In response to this, a method may be adopted in which the scanning position of the charged particle beam is measured and the measurement results are fed back to correct the scanning position. However, with this method, when the scanning speed is high, a delay occurs in the feedback, and the error in the scanning position may not be sufficiently corrected.
The present invention aims to provide a charged particle beam irradiation system and a charged particle beam irradiation method that can improve the accuracy of the scanning position regardless of the scanning speed of the charged particle beam.
In order to solve the above problems, the charged particle beam irradiation system according to the present invention is a charged particle beam irradiation system that irradiates an irradiated object with a charged particle beam, and includes an irradiation unit that irradiates the irradiated object with the charged particle beam by scanning the charged particle beam with a scanning electromagnet, and a setting unit that sets a current command value for the scanning electromagnet corresponding to scan pattern information for the irradiated object based on the sweep speed of the magnetic field generated by the scanning electromagnet.
This charged particle beam irradiation system includes a setting unit that sets a current command value for the scanning electromagnet corresponding to the scan pattern information. Therefore, the setting unit can set a current command value for the scanning electromagnet so as to realize the scan pattern of the charged particle beam. Here, the setting unit sets a current command value for the scanning electromagnet based on the sweep speed of the magnetic field. That is, even if the sweep speed of the magnetic field becomes fast by scanning the charged particle beam at high speed, the setting unit can set a current command value for the scanning electromagnet after taking into account the effect of the sweep speed. Therefore, even if the scanning speed is fast, the scanning electromagnet can perform scanning with the charged particle beam while suppressing the deviation between the scan pattern and the actual scanning position. As a result, the accuracy of the scanning position can be improved regardless of the scanning speed of the charged particle beam.
The setting unit sets a current command value for the scanning electromagnet using a conversion table that converts the scan pattern into an excitation pattern for the scanning electromagnet, and the conversion table may have information corresponding to the excitation frequency of the scanning electromagnet. This allows the setting unit to set a current command value that takes into account the excitation sweep speed by using the conversion table.
The charged particle beam irradiation method according to the present invention is a charged particle beam irradiation method for irradiating an irradiated object with a charged particle beam by scanning the charged particle beam with a scanning electromagnet, and includes a setting step for setting a current command value for the scanning electromagnet corresponding to scan pattern information for the irradiated object based on the sweep speed of the magnetic field generated by the scanning electromagnet.
This charged particle beam irradiation method can achieve the same effects and benefits as the charged particle beam irradiation system described above.
The present invention provides a charged particle beam irradiation system and a charged particle beam irradiation method that can improve the accuracy of the scanning position regardless of the scanning speed of the charged particle beam.
Hereinafter, a charged particle beam irradiation system according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the attached drawings. Note that in the description of the drawings, the same elements are given the same reference numerals, and duplicated descriptions will be omitted.

First, referring to FIG. 2, a schematic configuration of the charged particle
The
The
The
The
The profile monitor 11 detects the beam shape and position of the charged particle beam B for alignment during initial setup. The profile monitor 11 is disposed on the base axis AX between the
The
The
The
The
When irradiating the
When the charged particle beam B is irradiated by the scanning method using the charged particle
Then, the
The image of the charged particle beam irradiation by the
As shown in FIG. 3(a), the irradiated object is virtually sliced into a plurality of layers in the irradiation depth direction, and in this example, the layer is virtually sliced into N layers, starting from the deepest layer (the range of the charged particle beam B is long), such as layer L 1 , layer L 2 , ... layer L n-1 , layer L n ,
Next, the control of the
As shown in FIG. 4, the
The scan pattern
Here, the scan pattern information will be described with reference to FIG. 5. FIG. 5 is a schematic diagram showing the state of the charged particle beam B scanned by the
Returning to FIG. 4, the conversion
The conversion table is created based on the results of magnetic field measurements obtained by exciting the
On the other hand, dynamic conditions are conditions in which the parameter values change over time. Specifically, the excitation current and excitation frequency passed through the
A conversion table is created based on data linking the measurement results and conditions obtained by the above-mentioned magnetic field measurement. The conversion table created in this way has information (magnetic flux density, effective magnetic pole length) according to the excitation frequency of the
The setting
The setting
As described above, the setting
The
Next, the charged particle irradiation method according to this embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 6 and 7. Prior to carrying out the charged particle beam irradiation method, a process of creating a conversion table is carried out as shown in Figure 6. In this process, magnetic field measurements are carried out under static and dynamic conditions (step S10). Next, the measurement results obtained by the magnetic field measurement in step S10 are acquired (step S11). Next, the acquired measurement results are compiled to create a conversion table (step S12). The conversion table created in step S12 is stored in the
Next, the processing contents of the charged particle beam irradiation method shown in FIG. 7 will be described. The processing shown in FIG. 7 is performed by the
Next, the action and effect of the charged particle
First, a charged particle beam irradiation system according to a comparative example will be described with reference to FIG. 9. In the charged particle beam irradiation system according to the modified example, the setting
In such a comparative charged particle beam irradiation system, depending on the scanning speed, an error occurs between the actual scanning position of the charged particle beam and the pre-planned scanning position. Therefore, the comparative charged particle beam irradiation system measures the scanning position of the charged particle beam and corrects the scanning position by feeding back the measurement results. However, this method has the problem that when the scanning speed increases, a delay occurs in the feedback, making it impossible to sufficiently correct the error in the scanning position.
In contrast, the charged particle
The setting
