Description
This disclosure relates to a fuel filter abnormality detection device.
In a vehicle fuel supply system that supplies fuel pressurized by a supply pump to a fuel injection valve, a fuel filter is placed upstream of the supply pump to remove foreign matter from the fuel. In such a fuel system, if the fuel filter becomes clogged due to the removal of foreign matter, the amount of foreign matter that can be removed by the fuel filter decreases, and the filtering efficiency of the fuel filter decreases. As a result, there is a risk that the pressure loss of the fuel filter will increase and the fuel flow rate will decrease. For this reason, conventional fuel supply systems are equipped with an abnormality detection device that detects clogging of the fuel filter. An example of such an abnormality detection device is the device described in Patent Document 1 below.
The abnormality detection device described in Patent Document 1 detects clogging of the fuel filter by utilizing the fact that when the fuel filter becomes increasingly clogged and pressure loss increases, the actual discharge volume of the supply pump decreases below the commanded discharge volume. Specifically, the abnormality detection device calculates the difference between the actual and estimated fuel pressures when the discharge volume of the supply pump is increased, and determines that the fuel filter is abnormal if the difference is equal to or greater than a predetermined value.
In a fuel supply system, the fuel that passes through the fuel filter is not only supplied to the pressure chamber of the supply pump, but is also supplied as a lubricant to the cam chamber of the supply pump through the cam orifice valve. Hereinafter, the amount of fuel supplied from the fuel filter to the pressure chamber of the supply pump is referred to as the "pump suction amount," and the amount of fuel supplied from the fuel filter to the cam chamber of the supply pump is referred to as the "O/F (overflow) flow rate." The respective values of the pump suction amount and the O/F flow rate vary depending on the vehicle structure.
On the other hand, in such a fuel supply system, due to its structure, when the flow rate of fuel that can pass through the fuel filter decreases due to an increase in pressure loss in the fuel filter caused by clogging, the O/F flow rate decreases first, and then the pump suction volume decreases. Specifically, the pump suction volume decreases after the O/F flow rate reaches "0". Therefore, in a vehicle with a large O/F flow rate, the time at which the O/F flow rate reaches "0" is relatively delayed relative to the increase in pressure loss in the fuel filter, compared to a vehicle with a small O/F flow rate. As a result, the time at which the pump suction volume begins to decrease, in other words, the time at which the actual discharge volume of the supply pump begins to decrease, is delayed.
Thus, in vehicles with a large O/F flow rate, the actual discharge volume of the supply pump is unlikely to change when the fuel filter becomes clogged. In such vehicles, unless the pressure loss of the fuel filter increases significantly, the actual discharge volume of the supply pump will not decrease below the commanded discharge volume. Therefore, when using a determination method such as that described in Patent Document 1 above, there is a risk that the fuel filter clogging cannot be detected before the pressure loss of the fuel filter exceeds its withstand pressure value, and worse, the fuel filter may be damaged due to clogging.
This disclosure was made in light of these circumstances, and its purpose is to provide a fuel filter abnormality detection device that can more appropriately detect clogging of the fuel filter.
The fuel filter abnormality detection device that solves the above problem is a device that detects an abnormality in a fuel filter in a fuel supply system (10) having a fuel filter (13) that removes foreign matter in fuel, and a supply pump (30) that draws fuel that has passed through the fuel filter into a pressurizing chamber by reciprocating a plunger (34) and pressurizes the fuel. The abnormality detection device includes a pump control unit (83), a detection unit (81), and an abnormality determination unit (84). The pump control unit drives the supply pump under a plurality of operating conditions in which the suction time per cycle of the plunger is different. The detection unit detects the fuel intake amount of the supply pump when the supply pump is driven under the plurality of operating conditions, or a correlation parameter that correlates therewith. The abnormality determination unit determines whether the fuel filter is clogged based on a comparison of the plurality of fuel intake amounts corresponding to each of the plurality of operating conditions detected by the detection unit, or a comparison of the plurality of correlation parameters. The fuel supply system further includes a pressure accumulator vessel (40) that accumulates the fuel pressurized by the supply pump and supplies it to the fuel injection valve. The correlation parameter is any one of the amount of pressure increase of the fuel pumped from the supply pump to the pressure accumulator vessel, the pressure increase rate of the fuel pumped from the supply pump to the pressure accumulator vessel, and the number of pumping operations by the supply pump required to increase the internal pressure of the pressure accumulator vessel from a first predetermined pressure to a second predetermined pressure by the fuel pumped from the supply pump to the pressure accumulator vessel.
Another fuel filter abnormality detection device that solves the above problem is a device that detects an abnormality in a fuel filter in a fuel supply system (10) having a fuel filter (13) that removes foreign matter in fuel, and a supply pump (30) that draws fuel that has passed through the fuel filter into a pressurizing chamber by reciprocating a plunger (34) and pressurizes the fuel. The fuel supply system further includes an accumulator vessel (40) that accumulates the fuel pressurized by the supply pump and supplies it to the fuel injection valve, and a pressure detection unit (70) that detects the internal pressure of the accumulator vessel. The pump control unit drives the supply pump so as to make the internal pressure of the pressure accumulator vessel detected by the pressure detection unit match the target pressure, and when driving the supply pump under a plurality of operating conditions, drives the supply pump by temporarily increasing the target pressure.
According to this configuration, the pump control unit drives the supply pump under multiple operating conditions, thereby making it possible to vary the suction time per cycle of the plunger in the supply pump. When the fuel filter becomes clogged, the supply pump will suction less fuel when the suction time per cycle of the plunger is short than when the suction time is long. Therefore, according to the above configuration, when the fuel filter becomes clogged, differences occur in the multiple fuel suction amounts corresponding to the multiple operating conditions detected by the detection unit and in the multiple correlation parameters correlated thereto, and therefore it is possible to more appropriately detect clogging of the fuel filter based on these differences.

The pump control unit drives the supply pump under predetermined operating conditions. The detection unit detects the amount of fuel intake by the supply pump when the supply pump is driven under the predetermined operating conditions, or a correlation parameter that correlates therewith. The abnormality determination unit determines whether the fuel filter is clogged based on a comparison between the amount of fuel intake or the correlation parameter detected by the detection unit and a preset reference value.

The fuel supply system further includes a pressure accumulator vessel (40) that accumulates fuel pressurized by the supply pump and supplies it to a fuel injection valve, and a pressure detection unit (70) that detects the internal pressure of the pressure accumulator vessel. The pump control unit drives the supply pump so as to cause the internal pressure of the pressure accumulator vessel detected by the pressure detection unit to match the target pressure, and when driving the supply pump under specified operating conditions, drives the supply pump by temporarily increasing the target pressure.
According to this configuration, when the fuel filter becomes clogged, the amount of fuel suctioned by the supply pump decreases. Therefore, according to the above configuration, when the fuel filter becomes clogged, a difference occurs between the fuel suction amount and the reference value, or between the correlation parameter and the reference value, and therefore, the clogging of the fuel filter can be detected based on these differences.

The
The
The
The

The

Next, the principle of detection of clogging of the
First, the suction time of the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3, consider the case where the common rail pressure Pc is increased from the current predetermined pressure Pc10 to the target pressure Pc11. At this time, if the
On the other hand, if the
In this way, if the

The

Specifically, each time the
As shown by the solid line in FIG. 6(B), when the common rail pressure Pc reaches the high pressure command value Pc(b) at time t14, the
After that, as shown in FIG. 6(B), the
At this time, since the engine speed Ne is set to the low rotation speed command value Ne(b), the amount of fuel intake by the

Similarly, as shown in FIG. 8(B), after the actual common rail pressure Pc starts to change from the low pressure command value Pc(a) toward the high pressure command value Pc(b) at time t17, when pressure is pumped from the
As described above, the amount of fuel intake by the

The
(Second Modification)
Next, a first modification of the
The
9, in step S13, the
V1={Pc(b)-Pc(a)}/{T1×Ne(a)} (f1)
V1={Pc(b)-Pc(a)}/{T1×Ne(a)} (f1)
In addition, in the formula f1, "T1" is the first voltage rise time shown in FIG.
Incidentally, the increase amount of the common rail pressure Pc per unit time is affected by the engine rotation speed Ne. Specifically, the faster the engine rotation speed Ne, the larger the increase amount of the common rail pressure Pc per unit time. In this modification, since the change in the increase speed of the common rail pressure Pc caused by clogging of the
In step S14 following step S13, the
In step S17, the
V2={Pc(b)-Pc(a)}/{T2×Ne(b)} (f2)
V2 = {Pc(b) - Pc(a)} / {T2 x Ne(b)} (f2)
In addition, in formula f2, "T2" is the second boost time shown in FIG.
In step S18 following step S17, the
In step S19, the
Next, an example of the operation of the
As shown by the solid line in FIG. 10(B), when the actual common rail pressure Pc reaches the high pressure command value Pc(b) at time t14, the
In addition, when the actual common rail pressure Pc reaches the high pressure command value Pc(b) at time t18, the

The
Second Embodiment
Next, a second embodiment of the
The
Next, a specific procedure of processing executed by the
11, in step S11, the
In step S12 following step S11, the
In step S32 following step S31, the
In the process shown in FIG. 11, the process of fixing the target rotation speed of the engine to the high rotation speed command value Ne(a) in the process of step S11 corresponds to the process of driving the internal combustion engine at a predetermined rotation speed or higher.
Even with the
