Description
ここで、ρは流体密度、Uavgはチャネル内の平均流体速度、aは粒径、cLは揚力係数、DHは水力直径である。水力直径は、以下のように表される。
ここで、hはマイクロチャネル断面の高さ、wは幅である。式E1によれば、粒径は正味揚力上に実態があり、したがって、異なるサイズの粒子がチャネル断面内に様々な平衡位置を有する。
ここで、Rはチャネルの曲率半径、Reはチャネルのレイノルズ数であり、μは流体粘度である。螺旋チャネルでは、ディーン流れは、以下で与えられる式によるディーン力を粒子にもたらす。
ここで、(Saffman, 1965, JFluidMech)は、ディーン流れによる接線速度である。式E4によれば、粒子サイズ(a)は、ディーン力に関する決定論的なパラメータである。粒子の集束位置は、FLおよびFDの両方に依存し、これは粒子サイズとともに著しく変化する(FL/FDはa3に比例)。これは、異なるサイズの粒子がチャネル断面に沿った異なる側方位置に位置することを意味する。粒子平衡位置に対する主な力はFLであるが、FDは、これらの平衡位置を修正し、その数を減少させ、湾曲したマイクロチャネル内における単一ストリーム集束を容易にする(Gosset, AnalChem, 2009; Warkiani, NatProtoc, 2016)。
・低圧動作:螺旋の巻き数が減少した場合、チャネルの流体力学的抵抗は著しく低下する。これにより、入口ではるかに小さい圧力値を適用しながら、同じ流体流量での作業を可能にする。これは、規制側の装置に利点を与え、システムが動作する実験室の設備要件を減少させる。
・スループット:圧力要件が減少すると、装置はより高い流量で動作し、スループットを向上することができる。これは、試験期間の増加とともに細胞の生存能力が劇的に低下するので、下流の分析に利点を与える。
・より小さいフットプリント:巻き数の減少により、装置のフットプリントが縮小し、生産コストを削減する可能性がある(MEMSおよびポリマー製造技術の両方について)。

一方の分布ピークは水中翼より上にあり、他方の分布ピークは弓形水中翼の主軸より下にあり、前記2つの粒子分布を弓形水中翼に送り、その後、弓形水中翼を通過した分布中の粒子は弓形水中翼上の分流点(7)の下流に形成された渦領域(8)内にドリフトできないため、主軸より上の流線上の粒子は水中翼の上側を通る経路をたどり、主軸より下の流線上の粒子は水中翼の下側を通る経路をたどり、主軸と一致する流線上の粒子は、流線上のより大きい粒子がより遅い平均速度で水中翼の側を流れ、より小さい粒子がより速い平均速度で水中翼の側を流れる傾向があるような経路をたどることを特徴とする。

Claims (4)
- 主軸で一致する2つの異なるサイズの粒子の2つの分布について、次の式に従って分離の分解能(R)を増加させる方法であって、

dp,2は、チャネル幅に沿ったより小さい(または大きい)粒子のピークの位置、
dp,1は、チャネル幅に沿ったより大きい(または小さい)粒子のピークの位置、
w0.5h,1は、その分布ピークの半分の高さにおけるより大きい(または小さい)粒子の分布の幅、
w0.5h,2は、その分布ピークの半分の高さにおけるより小さい(または大きい)粒子の分布の幅であり、
但し、一方の分布ピークは弓形水中翼の主軸より上にあり、他方の分布ピークは前記弓形水中翼の主軸より下にある、方法において、
前記2つの粒子分布を有する流れを弓形水中翼に送り、当該弓形水中翼の一方の側において相対的に大きな速度を形成すると共に、当該弓形水中翼の他方の側において相対的に小さな速度を形成し、
前記主軸より上の流線上の粒子は前記弓形水中翼の上側を通る経路をたどり、且つ、前記主軸より下の流線上の粒子は前記弓形水中翼の下側を通る経路をたどり、それらの粒子は前記弓形水中翼上の分流点(7)の下流に形成される渦領域(8)内にドリフトせず、
前記主軸と一致する流線上の粒子は、当該流線上のより大きい粒子がより遅い平均速度で前記弓形水中翼のサイドを流れ、他方で、より小さい粒子がより速い平均速度で前記弓形水中翼のサイドを流れる傾向となるような経路をたどる、
ことを特徴とする、方法。 - 異なるサイズの粒子の混合を防止する方法であって、これら粒子は、前記弓形水中翼により、請求項1の方法に従って、既に分解能が増加されている、方法において、
1つのストリームを2つの別個のストリームに分割する分離壁(13)であって、前記弓形水中翼の下流に位置すると共に、前記弓形水中翼上の分流点(7)の下流に形成される渦領域(8)の背後に位置する分離壁(13)を形成し、
ここで、前記分離壁(13)の先端部(T)は、前記渦領域(8)の下流端に位置しており、
より大きな粒子を含む流線及びより小さな粒子を含む流線を前記分離壁に送って、それらを2つの別個のストリームに分割する、
ことを特徴とする、方法。 - 請求項2に記載の方法の実施に使用するために、分離された異なるサイズの粒子の混合を防止するための装置であって、
一方の流線が主軸の上になり、他方が主軸の下になるような、間の距離(a)を有して、異なるサイズの粒子を担持する流線を定める上流チャネルと、
前記上流チャネルに配置される弓形水中翼と、
前記弓形水中翼の背後に位置する二つの下流チャネルと、
前記二つの下流チャネルの間に位置する分離壁(13)と、
を備え、
前記分離壁(13)の先端部(T)は、渦領域(8)の下流端に位置する、
ことを特徴とする装置。 - 粒子を含む流体を受け入れるための1つの入口(20)と、粒子を含む流体を送り出すための2つの出口(22)とを更に備えると共に、
前記上流チャネルが螺旋(21)の形状である、ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の装置。
