Description
The present invention relates to a device and a corresponding method for grinding root vegetables into substantially equally sized portions, as well as a device and a corresponding method for determining the constituents of root vegetables.
Background In the cultivation of root vegetables, measurement of content plays an important role. Root vegetables as contemplated by this patent application are root vegetables such as sugar beets, fodder beets, red beets and turnips, and tubers such as potatoes, yams and Jerusalem artichokes. Cultivation includes, for example, continuous and systematic selection of suitable root crops with respect to biomass yield, composition or disease resistance. In order to be able to perform such selections, the content of these crops is regularly analyzed. This involves high investments in terms of personnel and overhead costs. Ultimately, however, the success of breeding programs depends on rapid and reliable analysis of root vegetable content.
For cultivation and footpaths, root crops are grown in so-called "plots" in the field. A plot represents a section of land of pre-measured size and allows the cultivation of several crops, the number of which provides a statistical indicator regarding the nature and distribution of crop yields. In sugar beet production, the number of sugar beets per plot is typically about 90. The plots are evaluated for sugar beet production capacity and, after cutting, the sugar beet content is analyzed. Such analysis is performed by a range of conventional techniques that provide high accuracy. However, the goal is to minimize analysis costs.
The structure and composition of the sample used for analysis is important for accurately measuring inclusions. It should be especially taken into account that genetic influences on growth and all the above-mentioned environmentally dependent influences result in important differences in the concentrations of quality-determining components from plant to plant. It is. Furthermore, non-uniform distribution of concentrations of important components is also observed within individual root crops such as beets and in the main part or potato tubers. This heterogeneity of the analyte results in high requirements for sampling, which in the case of beets, turnips and potatoes have been met by producing so-called mash samples. The procedure continues over time, for example for the analysis of beet pulp (DE 2611636) and potato mash (Ziolko and Jehle (2002), GIT Laboratory Journal 2000, 268-273). These mash samples are not representative, as they only represent a sampling of all crops on the plot. This non-representative sampling can result in significant distortions in component measurements.
Automated laboratories are known that continuously measure the components after extracting a pulp sample with aluminum sulfate or lead acetate. Additionally, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has proven useful in the analysis of components from tested crops in analytical laboratories. This is done on mashed raw potato samples, potato pulp samples, beet pulp samples, specialized liquids and special by-products of sugar production from beets (Haase, 2006). Starch-Stakerke Vol 58(6), 268-273; Heppner et al. (2000), Sugar Industry, 125 No. 5, 325-330; Fernandez et al. (2008), Journal of Near In Frared Spectroscopy 16,105- 110). This spectroscopy allows for the simultaneous measurement of several analytes in a sample, provides rapid results, and even avoids the use of reagents. Therefore, analysis costs and time can be reduced.
The use of NIRS as an analytical assay for determining components of root vegetables has so far been limited to laboratory settings and requires many other, preliminary sample processing steps in addition to the actual analysis. It has the disadvantage of becoming This includes activities such as fall harvesting, cleaning, collecting, storing, packaging, labeling, freezing and sending samples to research laboratories. Overall, this increases the cost and time required for analysis.
For cereals, maize and forage, NIR spectroscopy has already been used for real-time analysis of substances in combination with harvesters (
In practice, however, it has been found that this method lacks control over the shredded material, and separation can begin to occur even before analysis, resulting in a distortion of the analysis results. In addition to this, known harvesters are not suitable for the analysis of individual plots of root crops.
Furthermore, from US Patent Application Publication No. 2010/0216114 a process is known which has the following steps: finely dividing the root crops of the plot into strips of substantially equal size; conveying the root vegetable strips with the help of a conveying device; homogenizing or uniformizing the flow of the root vegetable strips; irradiating the stream with light in the near-infrared range, recording the reflected radiation, converting the radiation into a spectral signal, and processing the spectral signal to measure its components. The document also discloses a device for carrying out this process, which device comprises: a device for grinding the root vegetables into small pieces; a conveying device; and a device for evening out the flow of the ground vegetables. and a measuring device for component identification and quantification.
Although equipment that grinds root crops into small pieces is effective, the specific grinding and structure of the root vegetable pieces has been found to be important for subsequent analysis using the NIRS method. It is important that the root vegetable pieces are of substantially equal size, not too large, not too small, and relatively dry. It has been found by the inventors of the present invention that mashed root vegetables are difficult to analyze and the same applies to oversized pieces of cut root vegetables. Therefore, improvements to known devices are needed.
SUMMARY In one embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for grinding root vegetables into substantially uniformly sized portions includes: a main frame having an inlet side and an outlet side, a root vegetable on the inlet side; at least one grinding shaft rotatably supported in a main frame and a non-rotating cutting rake, the grinding shaft advantageously having a plurality of curvatures curved in the direction of rotation of the grinding shaft. The non-rotating cutting rake has a plurality of recesses and advantageously projections forming a counter blade to the hook. Here, the hook is arranged to cooperate with the above-mentioned recess of the non-rotating rake. The hooks may be curved and have a small axial size compared to the axial length of each grinding shaft. The rake also has a sealing function, ensuring that only pieces of sufficiently reduced size pass to the exit side. The hook is better suited for crushing root vegetable pieces rather than cutting them. The hook separates the root vegetable pieces from the whole crop, so the pieces are fairly dry and do not constitute a flat, wet cut surface. To support this function, the hook may be provided with a blade portion at the tip.
In another embodiment, the cutting rake is adjustable in height to adjust the vertical distance to the grinding shaft described above. As the distance between the cutting rake and the grinding shaft increases, the root crop pieces that are crushed tend to be larger; as the distance decreases, the root crop pieces that are crushed tend to be smaller. Also, the rotational speed of the grinding shaft may be adjusted to obtain such an effect. In one embodiment, the grinding shaft is connected to a drive, in particular a motor drive, for driving the grinding shaft. Typically, the grinding shaft rotates in the range of 300 rpm to 1000 rpm; increasing the rotation speed reduces the size of the pieces, and vice versa.
In yet another embodiment, the apparatus includes a cleaning rake adjacent to or opposite the cutting rake for stripping the root vegetable pieces from the hook. When the hook is rotated upwards again, it is desirable that the pieces stuck in or attached to the hook be torn off. Furthermore, such a cleaning rake also has a sealing effect, so that pieces larger than the recesses between the protrusions of the rake cannot pass through to the outlet side.
In another embodiment of the invention, the apparatus includes a unclog device that removes clogged root crops from the rake. Since the root crops may be located in a place that the hook cannot reach, it may occur that the root crops stick to the device and are not crushed further or that the hook is blocked by the root crops. It can also happen that the root crop is cut in one place by the hook, and the hook simply moves through the root crop without moving any further, but without further crushing the pieces. The unclog device is operable to remove such root crops and is movable upwardly or in any other direction to move the clogged root crops back into place where they can be engaged with the hook. may include one or more elements, such as a bar.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the apparatus may include a set of first and second grinding shafts supported within the frame described above, wherein the first grinding shaft and the second grinding shaft are A rake is provided between these grinding shafts, which are arranged to rotate in counter-rotation to each other and have protrusions and recesses arranged oppositely to each other. The rake placed between these shafts is a cutting rake. Furthermore, two cleaning rakes are advantageously arranged on opposite sides distally from the cutting rake.
In yet another embodiment, two sets of first and second sets of grinding shafts are arranged parallel to each other such that at least four grinding shafts are arranged in one device. ing.
In a further embodiment of the invention, a method of forming root vegetable pieces of substantially equal size includes the following steps: a) as described above and in further detail below; In a device for crushing root vegetables, the vertical height of the cutting rake, the rotational speed of the crushing shaft and the length of the plurality of curved hooks are adjusted according to the desired size of the pieces, b) root vegetables; and c) grinding the root vegetables into substantially uniformly sized portions.
In another embodiment of the invention, an apparatus for measuring the composition of root vegetables comprises: a main frame having an inlet side and an outlet side; a device for grinding into uniformly sized portions, an inlet side root vegetable supply, at least one grinding shaft rotatably supported in the main frame and a non-rotating cutting rake, the grinding shaft comprising: Advantageously, it is provided with a plurality of curved hooks which are curved in the direction of rotation of the grinding shaft, and the non-rotating cutting rake has a plurality of recesses and advantageously projections, forming a counter blade for the hooks. ing. Here, the hook is arranged to cooperate with the above-mentioned recess of the non-rotating rake. The device for measuring the components of root vegetables further comprises: a conveying device for conveying the flow of the ground vegetables, an equalizing roller for uniformizing the flow of the ground vegetables, and a device for measuring the components of the roots. It has measurement equipment for identification and quantification.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention, a method for determining a component of a root vegetable includes the following steps in this order: using an apparatus that grinds the root vegetable into substantially equal sized portions. pulverizing the root vegetables into strips of substantially equal size; producing a stream of root vegetable strips; and conveying the root vegetable strips with the aid of a conveying device; homogenizing or evenly distributing the strips in the stream; irradiating the stream of root vegetable strips with light in the near-infrared range; recording the reflected and/or absorbed radiation; converting into a spectral signal and processing the spectral signal to measure the components, wherein the apparatus for grinding the root vegetable into substantially equal sized portions has an inlet side and an outlet side. It comprises a main frame, an inlet root vegetable supply, at least one grinding shaft rotatably supported in the main frame and a non-rotating cutting rake, the grinding shaft advantageously extending in the direction of rotation of the grinding shaft. With a plurality of curved hooks curved towards each other, the non-rotating cutting rake has a plurality of recesses and advantageously projections forming a counter blade for the hooks. Here, the hook is arranged to cooperate with the above-mentioned recess of the non-rotating rake.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION In FIG. 1, a
A motor drives the
When the crushed
In an embodiment of the invention, the roller advantageously has a smooth surface, such as a polymer surface or a steel surface. The polymeric surface may be provided as a polymeric layer on the framework of the

In one embodiment of the invention, a
Furthermore, agglomeration or accumulation of
Directly downstream of the
The
It has previously been found to be important to achieve a substantially uniform flow of the

In this particularly advantageous embodiment, four grinding
The axial ends 44, 45 (see FIG. 6) of the grinding
Two of the four grinding
Referring to FIG. 6, the grinding
Furthermore, in each of the mutually parallel through
Next, the structure of the hook shown in particular in FIGS. 7 and 8 will be described.
At the
The length of the hook plays an important role, the longer the hook, the better the root crops will be crushed (i.e. preventing the occurrence of a lot of abrasion and large spills of liquids such as water) and even Complete blockage is reduced. However, the longer the hook, the larger the piece produced. This may interfere with the process of homogenizing the flow of the particles in preparation for subsequent component measurements as well as in component measurements, for example by spectroscopic methodologies.
Here, we return to FIG. 5 from FIG. 2 again. When the grinding
The vertical height of the cutting rakes 80, 82 is adjustable by means of the mounting
In addition to the cutting rakes 80, 82, two cleaning rakes 90, 91, 92, 93 are provided for each of the first set of grinding
The cleaning rakes 90, 91, 92, 93 extend along and parallel to the grinding
In the event that one or more of the root crops to be crushed becomes stuck or jammed and cannot be moved any further, the
In this embodiment, the
The outer jam-
Engagement pins 115, 116, 117, 118 are further attached to the

FIG. 13A shows a
The method includes the steps of adjusting the vertical height of the cutting rakes 80, 82, the rotational speed of the grinding
As explained above, in a

FIG. 13B shows the results of a series of tests for producing uniformly sized sugar beet pieces formed by varying the rotational speed of the grinding
FIG. 12 shows a
The method begins with
