Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2002-101002 discloses an example of an image forming apparatus of the background art. In the image forming apparatus of the background art, in an image forming apparatus having a toner containing part detachable from the apparatus main body, the accumulated value of the replenishment time of toner replenished from the toner containing part to the developing section of the apparatus main body is obtained. The amount of toner, such as the remaining amount of toner, is estimated from this.
However, in the image forming apparatus of the background art, the toner replenishment amount per unit replenishment time fluctuates depending on the operating environment of the image forming apparatus, including variations in the rotation speed of the toner replenishing motor and user's operating conditions. There is a problem that it is difficult to estimate the amount accurately.

[First embodiment]
FIG. 1 is a schematic front view of an

In this specification, in the horizontal direction when the
First, the basic configuration of the
Here, the image data handled by the
The
The developing
A toner supply member (toner cartridge) 32 is connected to the developer tank via a
The
The
In each image station, a
The
The intermediate
The
The
The
A
The fixing
Further, in the
In the
Next, the
As shown in FIG. 2, the apparatus
The
Further, the apparatus
As shown in FIG. 3 , the
The container
A cartridge-
The
Further, when the

In the
First, in the
Further, in calculating the correction value α, the ratio of the cumulative replenishment time Tn of the toner conveying member until the toner actually runs out to the first assumed time TL at which the toner runs out in a
The ideal correction value αn is calculated by the calculation formula shown in
αn=Tn/TL
[Number 1]
αn=Tn/TL
For example, in the replenishing operation, if the amount of toner falling into the toner supply pipe 34 (toner falling amount) is larger than the set value (estimated value), the time until the toner runs out (cumulative replenishment) is longer than the first estimated time TL. Since the time Tn) becomes shorter, the value of the ideal correction value αn becomes smaller. In other words, when the toner in the
Then, the average value αave of the ideal correction values αn of the
The average value αave is calculated by the calculation formula shown in Equation 2 below.
αave={αave(N-1)+αn}/N
[Number 2]
αave={αave(N−1)+αn}/N
In Equation 2, "N" is a variable indicating the number of
Then, the average value αave calculated in Equation 2 is used as the correction value α (the average value αave is substituted for the correction value α). However, in this embodiment, the average value αave is not reflected as the correction value α until the number N of
Next, when the print job is executed in the
Next, when the replenishment operation is completed, the toner replenishment time Ta in that replenishment operation is added to the cumulative replenishment time Tn. That is, the cumulative replenishment time Tn is updated. Note that the initial value of the cumulative replenishment time Tn is zero (0), and the toner replenishment time Ta is added to the cumulative replenishment time Tn each time a replenishment operation is performed.
When the cumulative replenishment time Tn is updated, the remaining toner amount Tz is calculated based on the relationship between the cumulative replenishment time Tn and the cumulative replenishment time (second assumed time) Tx of the toner conveying member assumed to run out of toner. be. However, in this embodiment, the initial value of the second assumed time Tx is the same time as the first assumed time TL described above.
The toner remaining amount Tz is calculated by the calculation formula shown in Equation 3 below.
Tz=1-Tn/Tx
[Number 3]
Tz = 1 - Tn/Tx
The toner remaining amount Tz calculated in Equation 3 indicates the ratio of the amount of toner present in the
However, in this embodiment, the second estimated time Tx is corrected before the remaining toner amount Tz is calculated. The corrected second assumed time Tx is calculated by the calculation formula shown in Equation 4 below.
Tx=αTx
[Number 4]
Tx = αTx
As shown in Equation 4, the second estimated time Tx is corrected by multiplying the second estimated time Tx by the correction value α (the second estimated time Tx is multiplied by the correction value α). Therefore, the remaining toner amount Tz is calculated based on the relationship between the cumulative replenishment time Tn and the corrected second assumed time Tx. That is, in this embodiment, the cumulative replenishment time Tn and the corrected second assumed time Tx are used as the driving amount for calculating the remaining toner amount Tz.
As described above, when the amount of falling toner is larger than the set value (when the amount of toner is reduced faster than expected), the value of correction value α (value of ideal correction value αn) becomes smaller, and the amount of toner falling becomes smaller. When it is smaller than the set value (when toner consumption is slower than expected), the correction value α is increased. For this reason, when toner consumption is faster than expected, the second assumed time Tx after correction is shorter than before correction. On the other hand, when toner consumption is slower than expected, the second assumed time Tx after correction is longer than before correction.
Here, as shown in Equation 3, the second assumed time Tx is the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner. For this reason, in this embodiment, when the toner consumption is faster than expected, correction is made so that the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner is shortened, and when the toner consumption is slower than expected, , is corrected so that the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner becomes longer. That is, in this embodiment, the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner is changed according to the amount of toner falling in the replenishment operation.

As described above, when the amount of falling toner is larger than the set value (when the amount of toner is reduced faster than expected), the correction value α becomes smaller, so the rotational speed Sr becomes smaller. That is, the amount of toner conveyed by the toner conveying member (toner falling amount) is reduced. Further, when the toner drop amount is smaller than the set value (when the toner is decreased more slowly than expected), the rotation speed Sr increases because the correction value α increases. That is, the amount of toner conveyed by the toner conveying member increases. Thus, in the first case, the driving amount of the toner conveying member is changed so that the amount of toner falling in the replenishment operation approaches the set value. In the first case, the amount of driving the toner conveying member (replenishment time, etc.) other than the rotational speed Sr is not corrected.
Next, the case where the toner supply time Ta is corrected will be described (second case). In the second case, the toner replenishment time Ta is corrected before the replenishment operation is performed. Specifically, the toner supply time Ta is multiplied by the correction value α (the toner supply time Ta is multiplied by the correction value α).
In the second case, when the toner drop amount is larger than the set value, the correction value α becomes small, so the toner replenishment time Ta becomes short. That is, the amount of toner conveyed by the toner conveying member (toner falling amount) is reduced. Further, when the toner fall amount is smaller than the set value, the correction value α becomes large, so the toner replenishment time Ta becomes long. That is, the amount of toner conveyed by the toner conveying member increases. Thus, in the second case, the driving amount of the toner conveying member is changed so that the amount of toner falling in the replenishment operation approaches the set value.
However, in the second case, after the replenishment operation is completed, the toner replenishment time Ta before correction (the toner replenishment time Ta for calculation) in the replenishment operation is added to the accumulated replenishment time Tn. That is, the time obtained by dividing the corrected toner replenishment time Ta by the correction value α is added to the cumulative replenishment time Tn. Therefore, in the second case, the toner replenishment time Ta for calculation is a time (set time) that is set according to the coverage rate of the printed image, and the actual toner replenishment time Ta is determined by the amount of toner falling during the replenishment operation. The time is corrected so that it approaches the set value. In the second case, the drive amount of the toner conveying member (rotational speed Sr, other replenishment time, etc.) other than the toner replenishment time Ta is not corrected.
Next, a case where the toner replenishment time Ta for calculation is corrected will be described (third case). In the third case, after the replenishment operation is completed, the toner replenishment time Ta (toner replenishment time Ta for calculation) is corrected before the toner replenishment time Ta is added to the cumulative replenishment time Tn. However, in the third case, the toner supply time Ta in the supply operation is not corrected. Specifically, the time obtained by dividing the toner replenishment time Ta by the correction value α is used as the corrected toner replenishment time Ta to be added to the accumulated replenishment time Tn.
In the third case, when the amount of falling toner is larger than the set value, the value of the correction value α becomes small, so the toner replenishing time Ta for calculation becomes long. That is, in calculating the remaining amount of toner, the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner becomes longer. Further, when the amount of falling toner is smaller than the set value, the value of the correction value α becomes large, so the toner replenishment time Ta for calculation becomes short. That is, in calculating the remaining amount of toner, the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner is shortened. Thus, in the third case, the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner is changed according to the amount of toner falling in the replenishment operation.
The remaining amount of toner management processing in the second embodiment will be described below with reference to the flowchart. According to the second embodiment, as in the first embodiment, the time required to reduce the remaining amount of toner is changed in accordance with the amount of toner falling during the replenishment operation. Accordingly, the remaining amount of toner can be appropriately estimated.

The display with a touch panel displays an operation screen including software keys for accepting input operations, a display screen for providing information about the
In the
However, the correction value input screen is displayed on a display with a touch panel when the difference between the ideal correction value αn calculated in the correction value setting process and the average value αave is a predetermined value (±5 to 10% or more) or more. be done. Thus, when the ideal correction value αn and the average value αave are significantly different, there is a possibility that the amount of falling toner is abnormal. In other words, there is a possibility that parts such as the
Regardless of the difference between the ideal correction value αn calculated in the correction value setting process and the average value αave, the correction value input screen may be displayed according to the operation of the hardware key or software key. .
Further, when the difference between the ideal correction value αn and the average value αave becomes equal to or greater than a predetermined value due to the occurrence of a problem, it is preferable to use the ideal correction value αn rather than using the average value αave. , may be appropriate as a remedy for the defect. In such a case, a numerical value corresponding to the ideal correction value αn may be displayed in advance in the input box, and a message recommending that the correction value α be changed to the ideal correction value αn may be displayed. .
Furthermore, instead of the operation unit, the correction value α may be input from an external computer (for example, an administrator's computer) connected to the

The same processing as the remaining toner amount management process described in the first embodiment will be given the same reference numerals, and the content will be duplicated. will be omitted or explained briefly.

If "NO" in step S175, that is, if the correction value α is not input, the process proceeds to step S43. On the other hand, if "YES" in step S175, that is, if the correction value α is input, the input value is substituted for the correction value α, and the process returns to the toner remaining amount management process. The contents of the processing up to step S41 are the same as those in the first embodiment, so the description is omitted.

The aspect shown in the third embodiment can also be employed in combination with the second embodiment.
Further, in addition to the configuration of the above embodiment, when the remaining amount of toner becomes equal to or less than a predetermined amount, the fact that the remaining amount of toner is low may be notified to the user.
