Description
The present invention relates to an electrode manufacturing method.
Patent Literature 1 discloses a method for manufacturing an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery having a current collector foil and an electrode mixture layer laminated on the surface of the current collector foil. Specifically, first, a plurality of carbon nanotubes that are conductive materials, a dispersant, and a solvent (dispersion medium) are mixed to prepare a carbon nanotube dispersion. Next, the carbon nanotube dispersion is mixed with a plurality of active material particles to prepare an electrode slurry. Thereafter, this electrode slurry is applied to the surface of the current collector foil and dried to form an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery.
By the way, since carbon nanotubes easily aggregate, when an electrode slurry is prepared using carbon nanotubes as a conductive material without adding a dispersant, a plurality of carbon nanotubes migrate and aggregate in a solvent. Carbon nanotubes cannot be dispersed in slurries. Therefore, when preparing an electrode slurry using carbon nanotubes as a conductive material, as in Patent Document 1, it was necessary to add a dispersant in order to disperse the carbon nanotubes in the slurry. However, since the dispersant has high electric resistance, the volume resistivity of the electrode mixture layer tends to be high in the electrode produced using the electrode paste containing the dispersant. This sometimes increased the internal resistance of the battery.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an electrode manufacturing method capable of reducing the volume resistivity of an electrode mixture layer.
An electrode having a current collector foil and an electrode mixture layer laminated on the surface of the current collector foil, wherein the electrode mixture layer contains a plurality of active material particles without containing a binder and a dispersant. and a plurality of carbon nanotubes that are conductive materials, the carbon nanotubes are dispersed over the entire electrode mixture layer, and the adjacent active material particles are connected to each other by the carbon nanotubes .
In the electrode described above, the electrode mixture layer contains a plurality of active material particles and a plurality of carbon nanotubes without containing a binder and a dispersant. In this electrode mixture layer, carbon nanotubes are dispersed throughout the electrode mixture layer, and adjacent active material particles are connected (coupled) by carbon nanotubes, which are conductive materials. In this way, the electrode mixture layer does not contain a binder or a dispersant with high electrical resistance, and the adjacent active material particles are connected by carbon nanotubes, so that the volume resistance of the electrode mixture layer is rate can be reduced. Therefore, by using an electrode having such an electrode mixture layer, the resistance of the battery can be reduced (the internal resistance of the battery can be reduced).
Since carbon nanotubes have strong binding properties, active material particles can be bonded (bound) to each other by carbon nanotubes without using a binder. Also, the electrode mixture layer may contain other conductive material such as acetylene black in addition to carbon nanotubes.
One aspect of the present invention is a method for manufacturing an electrode having a current collector foil and an electrode mixture layer laminated on the surface of the current collector foil, wherein a plurality of active materials are used without containing a binder and a dispersant a wet powder producing step of producing a wet powder containing particles, a plurality of carbon nanotubes as a conductive material, and a solvent; and the wet powder produced in the wet powder producing step on the surface of the current collector foil. The electrode mixture layer is formed on the surface of the current collector foil by a film-forming step of attaching the body to the surface of the current collector foil and drying the wet powder in the form of a film attached to the surface of the current collector foil. In the wet powder preparation step, the active material particles and the carbon nanotubes are compressed and rubbed together in the presence of the solvent so that the carbon nanotubes form the entire wet powder. It is a method for producing an electrode in which the wet powder is prepared in such a manner that the adjacent active material particles that are dispersed over the surface and that are wetted with the solvent are connected to each other by the carbon nanotube.
In the above-described manufacturing method, in the wet powder preparation step, a wet powder containing a plurality of active material particles, a plurality of carbon nanotubes as a conductive material, and a solvent (liquid) is prepared without containing a binder and a dispersant. . Specifically, in this wet powder preparation step, the active material particles and the carbon nanotubes are rubbed together while being compressed in the presence of a solvent (liquid) to form a wet powder in which "the carbon nanotubes form the entire wet powder. Adjacent active material particles that are dispersed over a surface and are wetted with a solvent are connected to each other by carbon nanotubes to prepare wet powder.
Thus, in the above-described production method, unlike the conventional production method (for example, Patent Document 1), instead of producing a slurry, in the wet powder production process, the solid content rate is higher than that of the slurry (i.e. , low solvent content), the carbon nanotubes are less likely to migrate in the solvent, and the carbon nanotubes are less likely to agglomerate. Therefore, the carbon nanotubes can be dispersed throughout the wet powder without adding a dispersant. As a result, it is possible to obtain a wet powder in which adjacent active material particles whose surfaces are wetted with a solvent are connected to each other by carbon nanotubes over the entire wet powder.
In the manufacturing method described above, the wet powder produced in the wet powder production step is then adhered to the surface of the current collector foil in the form of a film in the film formation step. After that, in the drying step, by drying the film-like wet powder adhered to the surface of the current collector foil, an electrode mixture layer (film-like wet powder dried) is formed on the surface of the current collector foil. ).
The electrode mixture layer of the electrode manufactured in this manner contains a plurality of active material particles and a plurality of carbon nanotubes without containing a binder and a dispersant. In this electrode mixture layer, carbon nanotubes are dispersed throughout the electrode mixture layer, and adjacent active material particles are connected (joined) to each other by carbon nanotubes, which are conductive materials.
In addition, the wet powder production step described above can be performed using a known roll mill or twin-screw kneader. For example, by putting active material particles, carbon nanotubes, and a solvent into a roll mill, the active material particles and carbon nanotubes are compressed and rubbed together in the presence of the solvent to produce the wet powder described above.
In the wet powder preparation step, the amount of the solvent to be added is preferably such that the surface of the active material particles is wetted by the solvent and the carbon nanotubes and the active material particles are liquid-bridged by the solvent. This can prevent the carbon nanotubes from migrating and aggregating in the solvent. Further, in the wet powder producing step, in addition to carbon nanotubes, wet powder containing other conductive material such as acetylene black may be produced.
また、溶媒15として、NMP(N-メチルピロリドン)を用いている。
<Embodiment>
EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION Hereinafter, embodiment which actualized this invention is described in detail, referring drawings. This embodiment applies the present invention to the positive electrode 19 (electrode) of a lithium ion secondary battery and its manufacture. In the present embodiment, the materials of the
In this embodiment, the
FIG. 1 is a partially enlarged cross-sectional view of a
In this way, the positive
Next, a method for manufacturing the electrode (positive electrode 19) according to this embodiment will be described in detail. FIG. 2 is a flow chart showing the flow of the method for manufacturing the electrode (positive electrode 19) according to the embodiment. First, in step S1 (wet powder preparation step), a
Specifically, by putting a plurality of positive electrode
In step S1 (wet powder preparation step) of the present embodiment, the amount of the solvent 15 to be added is defined as "the solvent 15 wets the surfaces of the positive electrode
In the present embodiment, as described above, in step S1 (wet powder preparation step), the wet powder containing the positive electrode
Thus, in the present embodiment, unlike the conventional art (for example, Patent Document 1), instead of preparing a slurry, in the wet powder preparation process, the solid content rate is higher than that of the slurry (i.e., the solvent content By preparing the
Next, in step S2 (film formation step), the
The roll
Further, the directions of rotation of these three rollers 1 to 3 are such that the directions of rotation of two adjacent (facing) rollers are opposite to each other, as indicated by the arrows in FIG. The rollers are set to rotate forward with respect to each other. At the facing locations of the first roller 1 and the
In such a roll
In step S<b>2 (film formation process), the
The film-like wet powder 6 (referred to as wet powder film 8) is then carried on the surface of the
After that, the process proceeds to step S3 (drying step), and the film-like wet powder 6 (wet powder film 8) adhered to the surface of the

また、バインダとして、PVDF(ポリフッ化ビニリデン)を用いている。

The positive electrode according to the comparative embodiment has
Since carbon nanotubes tend to agglomerate, when a positive electrode slurry is prepared using carbon nanotubes as a conductive material without adding a dispersant, a plurality of carbon nanotubes migrate and agglomerate in the solvent. Carbon nanotubes cannot be dispersed in slurries. Therefore, when producing a positive electrode slurry using carbon nanotubes as a conductive material as in the comparative embodiment, it is necessary to add a dispersant to disperse the carbon nanotubes in the slurry.
<Comparison of Volume Resistivity of Positive Electrode Mixture Layer>
The volume resistivity (Ω·cm) was measured for each of the positive
As shown in Table 1, the volume resistivity of the positive electrode mixture layer of the comparative example was 2.940 (Ω·cm). On the other hand, in the positive
