Description
偏光板34は、特定の方向に偏光した光のみを透過する偏光子を含む層である。偏光板34は、任意に選択することができるが、例えばポリビニルアルコール(PVA)フィルムを二色性染料により染色した染料系偏光板とすることが好適である。
粘接着層32は、偏光板34と第1支持板30とを貼り合わせるための層である。また、粘接着層36は、偏光板34と第2支持板38とを貼り合わせるための層である。粘接着層32及び粘接着層36に用いられる粘着剤又は接着剤は、特に限定されるものではなく、難燃性の接着剤であればよい。また、粘接着層32及び粘接着層36は、偏光板34と第1支持板30又は第2支持板38との間に熱応力等の力が働いた場合にその力を吸収(緩衝)させるような材料とすることが好適である。粘接着層に用いられる粘接着剤としては、特に限定されないが、ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂、ウレタン樹脂等にイソシアネート系化合物、エポキシ化合物等を配合した接着剤成分、又はアクリル系樹脂、ポリエステル系樹脂等の粘着剤成分が挙げられる。例えば、粘接着層32及び粘接着層36には、ポリビニルアルコール系の粘着剤又は接着剤を用いることが好適である。粘接着層32及び粘接着層36の膜厚は、1μm以下とすることが好適である。
第1支持板30及び第2支持板38は、偏光部材18を機械的に支持するための部材である。すなわち、第1支持板30は、粘接着層32を介して偏光板34の表面に貼り付けられる。また、第2支持板38は、粘接着層36を介して偏光板34の裏面に貼り付けられる。
偏光部材18では、第1支持板30の表面に紫外線吸収層Bとハードコート層Cを備える。紫外線吸収層Bは、紫外光による第1支持板30の変色を抑制し、HUD装置100の表示性能の劣化を抑えるために設けられる。
ハードコート層Cは、フィルムの表面硬度を高める機能を有し、表面の擦り傷防止等の目的で設けられる。ハードコート層Cは、JIS K 5600-5-4に規定される鉛筆硬度試験で、Hまたはそれより硬い値を示すことがより好ましい。このハードコート層Cを形成した場合、製造工程又は最終製品において、例えば表面の汚れを取るために布等で表面を擦った際でも傷を入り難くすることができる利点がある。
偏光部材18の透過率は、太陽光等の外光の遮光効果と液晶から出射される偏光の光量(出射光の輝度)のバランスより設定され得る。前記の効果を両立させる場合、偏光部材18の自然光透過率は、30%以上50%以下が好ましく、35%以上45%以下がより好ましく、37.5%以上42.5%以下が特に好ましい。すなわち、これに対応する偏光部材18の直線偏光光透過率としては、60%以上95%以下が好ましく、70%以上90%以下がより好ましく、75%以上85%以下が特に好ましい。自然光透過率が30%未満の場合、太陽光等の外光の遮光効果が高くなるが、表示装置からの出射光量が遮られ、十分な表示輝度が得られないおそれがある。反対に、自然光透過率が50%を超える場合は、より高い表示輝度が得られるが、外光の遮蔽効果が薄れることになる。
自動車の運転者らが偏光サングラスを装着した場合、サングラスの偏光軸とHUD装置から投射し反射される表示像の偏光軸とが一致し視認できなくなるおそれがある。そこで、本発明における実施形態において、例えば、平面ミラー14と凹面ミラー16との光路の間に位相差板を設け、表示装置から投射される偏光光の光軸を当該光軸に対して1~30°ずらすことによって視認性の問題を解消することができる。
本発明の偏光部材18に遮熱層を設けることで太陽光からの赤外線(熱線)をカットし、太陽光によるHUD装置内部の温度上昇を緩和することができる。遮熱層は赤外線をカットする(透過させない)特性を有する材料を含む層であり、赤外線を吸収する吸収型と赤外線を反射する反射型とに大別される。偏光部材18に吸収型または反射型のいずれの態様を適用しても、可視光域に着色が少なく透明性に優れるものが望ましい。遮熱層は、偏光部材18を構成する粘接着層に遮熱性を有する材料を含ませることで構成してもよいし、偏光部材18を構成するいずれかのフィルム表面に遮熱性を有する材料を製膜して設けてもよい。
以下、実施例により本発明を更に具体的に説明するが、本発明の適用範囲は実施例に限定されるものではない。
偏光板34(ポラテクノ社製の染料系偏光板EHC-125U(膜厚215μm))の両面に第1支持板30及び第2支持板38としてポリカーボネート(SABIC製 LEXAN8010VMC)を粘接着層32及び粘接着層36としてアクリル系粘着剤により貼り合わせた。さらに、第1支持板30の表面に、厚さ5μmのアクリル系樹脂でコーティングされたトリアセチルセルロースフィルム(コニカ製 KC6UAW)を、アクリル系粘着剤を介して接着して偏光部材18を作製した。なお、使用したトリアセチルセルロースフィルムには紫外線吸収剤としてベンゾトリアゾール系化合物が2.0%添加されており、380nmの波長の自然光透過率は2.6%であった。
TACフィルム(コニカ製 KC6UAW)の代わりに、紫外線吸収剤としてベンゾトリアゾール系化合物を2.0%添加したポリメタクリル酸メチル(PMMA)を用いて、第1支持板30としてポリカーボネート樹脂と共押出する方法によって積層した以外は実施例1と同様にして偏光部材18を作製した。
アクリル系樹脂でコーティングされたTACフィルム(コニカ製 KC6UAW)の代わりに、第1支持板30の表面に厚さ5μmのアクリル系樹脂でコーティングしてハードコート層Cを形成した以外は実施例1と同様にして偏光部材を作製した。
実施例1及び比較例1で得られた偏光部材について、以下の方法と条件で、鉛筆硬度試験と耐光性試験を行った。
JIS K 5600-5-4(1999)に記載の鉛筆硬度評価を行った。ハードコート層Cを温度25℃、相対湿度60%で2時間調湿した後、JIS S 6006(2007)に規定するHB~4Hの試験用鉛筆を用いて、4.9Nの荷重にて、各鉛筆で5回引っ掻いた際の、傷が発生しなかった本数を測定し、下記基準で判定をした。
〇:鉛筆で5回引っ掻いた際、傷が発生する回数が0~2回。
×:鉛筆で5回引っ掻いた際、傷が発生する回数が3回以上であり、許容範囲外。
次に、(株)ATLAS社製キセノンアーク Ci4000で、槽内温度65℃の環境下、300~400nmの紫外光を強度60W/m2の条件でハードコート層C側から240時間、500時間、600時間を照射した後の自然光透過率(%)を測定した。実施例1で得られた偏光部材18の結果を図5に、比較例1で得られた偏光部材の結果を図6に示す。
Claims (5)
- 偏光部材であって、
偏光子を有し、染色系偏光材料を用いた偏光板と、
前記偏光板の表面に粘接着層を介して貼り合わされた第1支持板と、
前記偏光板の裏面に粘接着層を介して貼り合わされた第2支持板と、
前記第1支持板又は前記第2支持板の少なくとも一方の表面に、膜厚が5μm以上20μm以下である粘接着層と、380nmの波長での自然光透過率が10%以下である紫外線吸収層と、ハードコート層と、をこの順に備え、
前記第1の支持板及び前記第2の支持板がポリカーボネート板であり、
前記紫外線吸収層と前記ハードコート層は、複合層であり、
前記複合層は、アクリル系樹脂のハードコート材料がコーティングされた、紫外線吸収剤を含有するセルローストリアセテートフィルムであり、
前記ハードコート層は、JIS K 5600-5-4(1999)に規定される鉛筆硬度評価による硬度が、Hまたはそれより硬い値である偏光部材。 - 請求項1に記載の偏光部材であって、
前記紫外線吸収層及び前記ハードコート層の前記複合層の膜厚は40μm以上70μm以下である偏光部材。 - 請求項1又は2に記載の偏光部材であって、
前記第1支持板及び/又は前記第2支持板は、難燃性プラスチック板を含む偏光部材。 - 請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載の偏光部材であって、
直線偏光光の透過率は60%以上95%以下である偏光部材。 - 請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の偏光部材と、
画像を出力する表示器と、
前記表示器を収納する筐体と、
を備え、前記偏光部材を透過した画像の虚像を投影画像として投影するヘッドアップディスプレイであって、
前記偏光部材は、前記表示器から出力されて前記偏光部材を透過する偏光光と偏光方向が平行となるように配置され、前記表示器から出力される画像を前記筐体の外部へ透過する透光カバーとして用いられているヘッドアップディスプレイ。
