Description
The present invention relates to a head unit, a liquid discharge device, and a method for manufacturing the head unit.
A liquid ejection device such as an inkjet printer that ejects ink to print an image or a document is known to use a piezoelectric element (for example, a piezo element). The piezoelectric element is provided corresponding to each of a plurality of ejection portions in the head (inkjet head), and each of them is driven according to a drive signal, so that a predetermined amount of ink (liquid) is provided from the nozzle of the ejection portion at a predetermined timing. ) Is ejected to form dots.
In recent years, in inkjet heads (head units), the number of nozzles (the number of driving elements such as piezoelectric elements) that are driven at the same time has increased due to the increase in the density of nozzles, etc. As the number of drive modules including a large number of electrically connected drive elements increases, it becomes necessary to reduce the size of each drive module in order to avoid an increase in the size of the inkjet head. As a result, the size of the wiring board connected to the drive module becomes small, which causes a problem that it becomes difficult to manufacture the inkjet head. Specifically, in an inkjet head including a drive module having 600 or more drive elements arranged at a density of 300 or more per inch, the pitch of the connection terminals of the wiring board becomes very small, so that the wiring board If the connection position between the drive module and the drive module deviates by several μm, a connection failure may occur, making the manufacture of the inkjet head even more difficult.
The present invention has been made in view of at least some of the above problems, and according to some aspects of the present invention, it is connected to a drive module having a large number of high density drive elements. It is possible to provide a head unit capable of avoiding difficulty in manufacturing while having a wiring board, a liquid discharge device provided with the head unit, and a method for manufacturing the head unit.
The present invention has been made to solve at least a part of the above-mentioned problems, and can be realized as the following aspects or application examples.

A "drive module having 600 or more drive elements arranged at a density of 300 or more per inch" is a drive element array in which 300 or more drive elements are arranged at a density of 300 or more per inch. It may be a drive module having a plurality of drives, or may be a drive module having only one drive element train in which 600 or more drive elements are arranged at a density of 300 or more per inch.
The first wiring is either a reference voltage signal transfer wiring for transferring a reference voltage signal or a drive signal transfer wiring for transferring a drive signal, and the second wiring is the reference voltage signal transfer wiring and the drive signal. Either one of the transfer wirings may be used. Alternatively, the flexible wiring board has a plurality of the second wirings, the first wiring is a reference voltage signal transfer wiring for transferring a reference voltage signal, and the plurality of the second wirings are the first drive. The first drive signal transfer wiring for transferring the signal and the second drive signal transfer wiring for transferring the second drive signal may be included.
The "through hole" is an opening (hole) penetrating between the first wiring layer and the second wiring layer of the flexible wiring board, and the first wiring layer and the second wiring layer provided on the inner surface thereof. It is a structure containing electrically connected conductors, and is also called a "via".
In the head unit according to this application example, since the drive module has a large number of drive elements with high density, the number of drive elements driven at the same time increases, and the first output terminal in the flexible wiring board connected to the drive module. The current flowing through the first wiring electrically connected to the first end of the drive element via the second output terminal and the current flowing through the second wiring electrically connected to the second end of the drive element via the second output terminal. Tends to grow. On the other hand, in the head unit according to this application example, the flexible wiring board has a first wiring layer and a second wiring layer, and a sufficient area for each of the first wiring and the second wiring is secured. However, since the size is reduced, it is possible to cope with the miniaturization of the drive module. Then, in the flexible wiring board, the second wiring provided in the second wiring layer is electrically connected to the second output terminal via the through hole, so that both the first output terminal and the second output terminal are connected. It can be arranged in the first wiring layer, and the first output terminal and the second output terminal can be relatively easily connected to the second board of the drive module in the second region. Further, in the flexible wiring board, both the first input terminal and the second input terminal are provided in the same first wiring layer as the first output terminal and the second output terminal, so that the first output terminal and the second output are provided. With the terminals connected to the second board of the drive module, the first input terminal and the second input terminal can be relatively easily connected to the first board in the first region. Therefore, according to the head unit according to the present application example, it is possible to avoid difficulty in manufacturing while having a wiring board connected to a drive module having a large number of high-density drive elements.

[Application example 2]

May be provided along a second side that does not face the first side of the flexible wiring board.
In the head unit according to this application example, the first output terminal and the second output terminal on the first side side of the flexible wiring board are connected to the second board of the drive module and do not face the first side. Even if the connection positions of the first input terminal and the second input terminal on the second side are displaced in the direction orthogonal to the first side, it can be relatively easily adjusted to an appropriate connection position. .. Further, when the connection positions of the first input terminal and the second input terminal of the wiring board with the first board are displaced in the direction orthogonal to the second side, it is difficult to adjust the connection position, but the first input terminal. Since the second input terminal is provided on the second side, it is not necessary to adjust the connection position because an appropriate connection state with the first board is ensured. Therefore, according to the head unit according to the present application example, the manufacturing becomes easy, the manufacturing man-hours can be reduced, and the yield can be improved, so that the manufacturing cost can be reduced.

Based on the above, the connection inspection between the first input terminal and the first board can be performed. Alternatively, according to the head unit according to this application example, is the inspection signal supplied from the first board to the second input terminal, and the inspection signal is observed from the test pad electrically connected to the second wiring? In the head unit according to this application example, in the flexible wiring board, since the second wiring is thicker than the first wiring, the impedance value per unit area is smaller than that of the first wiring, and the amount of heat generated by the current flowing through the second wiring is small. Is effectively reduced. Therefore, according to the head unit according to this application example, the amount of heat generated by the wiring board can be reduced, so that the wiring board is less likely to be damaged, and the amount of heat propagating to the drive module is reduced to accurately discharge the liquid. can do.

According to the method for manufacturing a head unit according to this application example, in a flexible wiring board, the second wiring provided in the second wiring layer is electrically connected to the second output terminal via a through hole. 1.
1. 1. Outline of Liquid Discharge Device The printing device as an example of the liquid discharge device according to the present embodiment discharges ink (liquid) according to image data supplied from an external host computer to a printing medium such as paper. It is an inkjet printer that forms a group of ink dots and thereby prints an image (including characters, figures, etc.) corresponding to the image data.

As shown in FIG. 3, the

The control

The control

The control

In the drive module 20-i (i is any one of 1 to n), which of the drive signals COM-Ai and COM-Bi should be selected by the
Each of the
Since the drive signals COM-A1 to COM-An and COM-B1 to COM-Bn are signals for driving the

A method of forming one dot by landing one or more ink droplets ejected during a period and combining the landed one or more ink droplets (second method), or combining these two or more ink droplets. There is a method (third method) of forming two or more dots without causing the ink to be formed.
In the present embodiment, by the second method, ink is ejected at most twice for one dot, so that "large dot", "medium dot", "small dot" and "non-recording (no dot)" are performed. 4 gradations are expressed. In order to express these four gradations, in the present embodiment, two types of drive signals COM-Ai and COM-Bi are prepared in the drive module 20-i (i is any one of 1 to n), and each of them is prepared. As shown in FIG. 5, the drive signal COM-Ai has a trapezoidal waveform Adp1 arranged in T1 during the period from the rise of the latch signal LATi to the rise of the change signal CHi, and the latch after the change signal CHi rises. It is a waveform that is continuous with the trapezoidal waveform Adp2 arranged in T2 during the period until the signal LATi rises. A new dot is formed on the recording sheet S for each cycle Ta, with the period consisting of the period T1 and the period T2 as the cycle Ta.

Further, a
The through
The
The
The

Further, as shown in FIG. 14, in the plan view of the

As shown in FIGS. 14 and 15, the through

With reference to FIGS. 14 and 15, in the present embodiment, wiring for transferring various signals is provided separately on both the
そのため、第1駆動信号転送配線433a又は第2駆動信号転送配線434a(あるいは、第1駆動信号転送配線433b又は第2駆動信号転送配線434b)、各圧電素子60、基準電圧信号転送配線432a(あるいは、基準電圧信号転送配線432b)の順に、あるいはその逆順に大電流が流れる電流経路が存在する。
Further, in the present embodiment, the reference voltage
Further, in the present embodiment, most of the first drive
It is wider than the pitch of b and the pitch of the plurality of
Further, in the sealing
Further, an
Further, referring to FIG. 15, in the present embodiment, on the
Further, referring to FIG. 15, in the present embodiment, the width of the first drive
Further, as described above, since the wiring impedances of the reference voltage
Further, as shown in FIG. 14, in the present embodiment, the control
Further, in the present embodiment, the ground voltage
Further, in the present embodiment, the control
Further, as shown in FIG. 15, in the present embodiment, in the
Further, as shown in FIGS. 14 and 15, in the present embodiment, the reference voltage
Further, as shown in FIG. 14, a plurality of input terminals included in the
The number of input terminals included in the
Further, as shown in FIGS. 14 and 15, the control

Then, due to the miniaturization of the
Further, with reference to FIGS. 14 and 15, the
Therefore, in the present embodiment, the

Finally, the

9. Actions and Effects As described above, in the
At 00, the currents flowing through the reference voltage
Further, in the
Further, in the
Further, in the

Even in the

Further, in the above embodiment, the
