Description
The present invention belongs to the field of electrode-catalyzed water splitting with transition metal oxides, and specifically relates to a tricobalt tetraoxide array / titanium mesh electrode for generating hydrolyzed oxygen and a method for producing the same.
In recent decades, the problem of reducing fossil energy such as coal and oil and the problem of environmental pollution caused by the use of fossil energy have had a terrible impact on people's survival and development. The search and development of environment-friendly renewable energy alternatives to fossil energy has become a new energy research subject in Japan and overseas, and research on the conversion and storage of solar energy has been attracting particular attention. The conversion and utilization of solar energy, which is an unusable energy, has been a focus of scientific research in recent decades. With the development of technologies such as photovoltaic power generation and perovskite solar cells, the conversion of solar energy to electrical energy is becoming easier and easier. However, compared to other forms of energy, solar energy is more affected by seasons and time, so the conversion of solar energy to electrical energy has the drawback of unstable output. It is also difficult to store electrical energy. A method of converting electrical energy into stable chemical energy and storing it by decomposing water by an electrochemical method to generate hydrogen and oxygen is a new means for solving the above-mentioned problems. If the generated hydrogen is used in a fuel cell, chemical energy can be easily converted into electrical energy. According to such a method, electric energy and chemical energy can be suitably converted. However, electrolysis of water requires driving by electrical energy. In order to save costs and energy, the energy required for water electrolysis is reduced by using a catalyst in the electrolysis of water. Further, as the catalyst agent used in the electrolysis of water, one having high durability, physicochemical stability and catalytic activity is required. In addition, the use of related electrode materials is also required in the fields of other energy storage technologies such as lithium-air batteries, zinc-air batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, electrochemical (super) capacitors, and fuel cells. Mass production of electrode materials with excellent performance in electrocatalyst electrodes, photocatalyst electrodes and electrochemical devices is a research theme common to the above-mentioned multiple fields.
Decomposing water with an electrocatalyst to produce hydrogen and oxygen is a green, sustainable and economical energy conversion process. At present, the electrode materials used in water electrolysis have been noble metal (platinum) and noble metal oxide (eg, iridium oxide and ruthenium oxide) materials. These precious metals are very expensive due to their very low content in the Earth's crust, severely limiting the large-scale application of electrolysis of water. In water decomposition, the theoretical potential of the anodic oxidation reaction (oxygen evolution) is 1.23 V, and the theoretical potential of the cathode reduction reaction (hydrogen generation) is 0 V. In other words, the anodic oxidation reaction requires more energy. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of electrolysis of water, it is desired to use a catalyst electrode having stable performance as a hydrogen electrode.
As such a catalyst electrode, a transition metal oxide has been attracting attention because of its excellent chemical and physical stability and catalytic performance, as well as its low cost. In the transition metal oxide, in particular, tricobalt tetraoxide is a mixture of trivalent cobalt and divalent cobalt, so that it has an excellent oxygen evolution effect and is often used as an electrode catalyst. Further, in order to exhibit high catalyst performance, it is necessary to attach the catalyst to a suitable carrier. The reason is that the carrier can support the electrodes, does not require the use of conductive gels, and can provide more active sites in the catalytic reaction. In addition, close cooperation between the carrier and the active site can promote the movement of electrons. Choosing the right carrier material is very important for the production of high performance electrode materials. At present, it is known that the catalytic performance can be significantly improved by directly anchoring the catalytically active material to a carrier such as carbon cloth, carbon paper, or nickel mesh. However, these carriers have weak acid resistance and alkali resistance. For example, nickel mesh is decomposed in an acidic system. In addition, carbon cloth and carbon paper are very inferior in mechanical performance, and the electrode material produced by them is easily damaged by long-term cycle use. Therefore, the above-mentioned carriers are difficult to recycle and reuse, which makes their industrial use difficult.
It is an important issue for researchers to ensure good activity and structural stability of tricobalt tetraoxide and to maximize the advantages of carrier materials.
As a result of research to solve the problems of the prior art, the present inventors have used a titanium mesh having excellent conductivity and recyclability as a carrier material, and a tricobalt tetraoxide nanobeam array having a mixed valence state as an active material. It was found that it is very suitable to produce a tricobalt tetraoxide nanobeam array / titanium mesh composite electrode for generating hydrolyzed oxygen. Since the interface of the tricobalt tetraoxide nanobeam array / titanium mesh is in close contact with each other, the resistance of electron transfer in the electrolysis process is remarkably reduced and the electron transport property is improved. In addition, according to the array structure, the material transportability is greatly improved, so that the tricobalt tetraoxide nanobeam array / titanium mesh electrode is effective in the fields of catalytic electrochemical decomposition of water, photoelectric conversion, energy storage, etc. Can be applied as a target.

Further, the tricobalt tetracooxide nanobeam array according to the present invention has a regular arrangement structure, is in close contact with the carrier, and has a fine pore structure formed on the surface of the nanobeam, so that electrons move in the electrolysis process. Then, the obtained composite of alkaline cobalt carbonate nanobeam array / titanium mesh is subjected to a firing step and a reduction treatment step to obtain a tricobalt tetracobalt nanobeam array / titanium mesh, and further washed to generate oxygen of the present invention. Tricobalt tetracobalt nanobeam array / titanium mesh electrode for use was manufactured. The hydrothermal reaction is preferably carried out under the conditions of a temperature of 110 to 150 ° C. and a reaction time of 2 to 10 hours.

Further, in order to obtain the above-mentioned growth amount and array length, the concentration of the cobalt salt in the hydrothermal reaction is usually 0.02 to 0.2 mol / L, preferably 0.04 to 0.1 mol / L. Is. In a specific example, the concentration of the cobalt salt was 0.06 mol / L, and the concentrations of urea and ammonium fluoride were 0.3 mol / L and 0.16 mol / L, respectively.

In the obtained electrode, the growth amount of the tricobalt tetroxide nanobeam array was 0.982 mg / cm 2 . Further, as a result of observation with a microscope, the length of the tricobalt tetraoxide nanobeam array was 4.8 to 6 μm, and the nanobeam size was 360 nm.
Comparative Example 1: Production of Iridium Oxide Powder / Titanium Mesh Electrode As a comparative example, a method for producing an iridium oxide powder / titanium mesh electrode is as follows. Commercially available iridium oxide purchased from a chemical specialty store was polished and weighed 5 mg to prepare a sample. Then, 350 μL deionized water, 700 μL absolute ethanol, and 80 μL perfluorosulfonic acid were added and mixed with an ultrasonic mixer to form a polymer conductive gel-like solution. Next, 177 μL of the mixed solution was taken , gradually added dropwise to the acid-washed titanium mesh (1 cm 2 ), and air-dried to obtain an iridium oxide powder / titanium mesh electrode as a comparative example.
