Description
The techniques disclosed herein relate to electrochemical reaction single cells.
A solid oxide fuel cell (hereinafter referred to as "SOFC") having an electrolyte layer containing a solid oxide is known as one of the types of fuel cells that generate electricity by utilizing an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Has been done. The fuel cell single cell (hereinafter, simply referred to as “single cell”), which is the minimum constituent unit of SOFC, faces each other in a predetermined direction (hereinafter, referred to as “first direction”) with the electrolyte layer interposed therebetween. Includes air and fuel poles. The fuel electrode contains Ni and oxide ion conductive ceramics (for example, yttria-stabilized zirconia (hereinafter referred to as “YSZ”)) and has an active layer adjacent to the electrolyte layer (see, for example, Patent Document 1). ..
In such a single cell, for the half cell obtained by firing the green sheet of each layer, the value of the parameter consisting of the average thickness and porosity of the active layer and the average thickness and porosity of the electrolyte layer is a predetermined numerical value. There is a technique for obtaining a single cell that exhibits excellent power generation performance by adjusting within the range (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
In such a single cell, peeling may occur between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode. For example, it is assumed that the stress caused by the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode is concentrated near the interface between the electrolyte layer and the fuel electrode. In the above-mentioned conventional technique, since the peeling between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode has not been sufficiently studied, the suppression of the peeling between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode and the characteristics of a single cell ( There is a risk that it will not be possible to achieve both suppression of deterioration in power generation performance). For example, as the porosity of the active layer of the fuel electrode is lower, the reaction field in the active layer increases as the absolute amounts of Ni and YSZ per unit volume increase, so that the activation polarization in the active layer decreases. Therefore, deterioration of the characteristics of the single cell can be suppressed. However, on the other hand, the lower the porosity of the active layer of the fuel electrode, the higher the hardness of the active layer, and the more difficult it is to suppress the progress of peeling (cracks) due to stress concentration at the interface.
It should be noted that such a problem is also common to the electrolytic single cell, which is a constituent unit of a solid oxide fuel cell (hereinafter referred to as “SOEC”) that generates hydrogen by utilizing the electrolysis reaction of water. Is. In the present specification, the fuel cell single cell and the electrolytic single cell are collectively referred to as an electrochemical reaction single cell.
This specification discloses a technique capable of solving at least a part of the above-mentioned problems.
The technique disclosed in the present specification can be realized, for example, in the following forms.
(1) The electrochemical reaction single cell disclosed in the present specification is an electricity comprising an electrolyte layer containing a solid oxide, an air electrode and a fuel electrode facing each other in a first direction with the electrolyte layer interposed therebetween. In the chemical reaction single cell, the fuel electrode has an active layer adjacent to the electrolyte layer, and the average thickness (α) of the active layer in the first direction and the pore ratio (β) of the active layer. The average thickness (γ) of the electrolyte layer in the first direction and the pore ratio (δ) of the electrolyte layer satisfy the conditions defined by the following formula (1).
3500 ≦ | (α / ( β × 0.01) )-(γ / ( δ × 0.01) ) | ≦ 6500
The main cause of exfoliation between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode is that stress is generated at the interface between the electrolyte layer and the active layer due to the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between the electrolyte layer and the active layer. Be done. The main factor that determines the magnitude of stress generated at the interface between the electrolyte layer and the active layer is the average thickness in the first direction (the direction in which the air electrode and the fuel electrode face each other) for each of the electrolyte layer and the active layer. Fuel and porosity. This is because the thicker the average thickness in the first direction, the greater the stress concentrated on the interface. As for the porosity, the higher the porosity, the more the stress generated at the interface is relaxed. On the other hand, the average thickness and porosity in the first direction in each layer affect the characteristics of the electrochemical reaction single cell. For example, the thicker the average thickness of the electrolyte layer in the first direction, the greater the IR resistance of the electrochemical reaction single cell. Further, the higher the porosity of the electrolyte layer, the higher the possibility that a gas leak will occur between the air chamber facing the air electrode and the fuel chamber facing the fuel electrode. Further, the higher the porosity of the active layer, the smaller the reaction field between the oxide ions supplied from the electrolyte layer and the hydrogen contained in the fuel gas supplied from the fuel chamber. Therefore, the inventor of the present application has found " average thickness in the first direction / ( porosity x 0.01) " as a new parameter based on the average thickness in the first direction and the porosity. Then, according to the present electrochemical reaction single cell, by satisfying the above formula (1), peeling between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode is suppressed, and the characteristics of the electrochemical reaction single cell are deteriorated. It is possible to achieve both suppression.
(2) In the electrochemical reaction single cell, the average thickness (α) of the active layer in the first direction, the porosity (β) of the active layer, and the electrolyte layer in the first direction. The average thickness (γ) and the porosity (δ) of the electrolyte layer may further satisfy the conditions defined by the following formula (2).
| (α / ( β × 0.01) ) − (γ / ( δ × 0.01) ) | ≦ 6300
According to the present electrochemical reaction single cell, it is possible to more effectively suppress the deterioration of the characteristics of the electrochemical reaction single cell while suppressing the peeling between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode.
(3) In the electrochemical reaction single cell, the average thickness (γ) of the electrolyte layer in the first direction may be less than 6.4 (μm). According to this electrochemical reaction single cell, the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode have a higher average thickness (γ) in the first direction than when the average thickness (γ) of the electrolyte layer is 6.4 (μm) or more. It is possible to more effectively suppress the deterioration of the characteristics of the electrochemical reaction single cell while suppressing the peeling between the cells.
(4) In the above-mentioned electrochemical reaction single cell, the porosity (β) of the active layer may be less than 40 (%). According to this electrochemical reaction single cell, as compared with the case where the porosity (β) of the active layer is 40 (%) or more, the separation between the electrolyte layer and the active layer of the fuel electrode is suppressed, while suppressing the separation. The deterioration of the characteristics of the electrochemical reaction single cell can be suppressed more effectively.
(5) In the electrochemical reaction cell stack including a plurality of electrochemical reaction single cells arranged side by side in the first direction, at least one of the plurality of electrochemical reaction single cells is , The composition may be characterized in that it is an electrochemical reaction single cell according to any one of the above (1) to (4).
The technique disclosed in the present specification can be realized in various forms, for example, a fuel cell single cell, a fuel cell stack including a plurality of fuel cell single cells, and a power generation module including a fuel cell stack.
The
A plurality of holes (eight in this embodiment) penetrating in the vertical direction are formed on the peripheral edge of each layer (

As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the

The
電解質層112は、略矩形の平板形状部材であり、例えば、少なくともZrを含んでおり、例えば、YSZ(イットリア安定化ジルコニア)、ScSZ(スカンジア安定化ジルコニア)、CaSZ(カルシア安定化ジルコニア)等の固体酸化物により形成されている。空気極114は、略矩形の平板形状部材であり、例えば、ペロブスカイト型酸化物(例えばLSCF(ランタンストロンチウムコバルト鉄酸化物)、LSM(ランタンストロンチウムマンガン酸化物)、LNF(ランタンニッケル鉄))により形成されている。
The
The

Then, the pore ratio becomes high. In the method b), when pores are formed by adding a pore-forming material such as resin beads or carbon powder, the porosity increases as the amount of the pore-forming material added increases. Further, in the method c), when the sintering temperature is raised, the porosity tends to decrease because the sintering proceeds more, and when the sintering temperature is lowered, the porosity tends to increase.

A-5-3. Evaluation results:
(About calculated value P)
As shown in FIG. 7, in
Further, when the porosity (δ) of the
On the other hand, in sample 8, the calculated value P is less than 3500, and the evaluation result of the peeling test is "no peeling", but the evaluation result of the leak test is "leaky (x)", and the evaluation result of the initial characteristics. Was "failed (x)". In Sample 8, it is considered that the porosity (δ) of the
In
In
A-6. Effect of this embodiment:
The main cause of peeling between the
On the other hand, the average thickness and porosity in the Z direction in each layer affect the characteristics of the
As described above, the average thickness (α) of the

B. Modification example:
The technique disclosed in the present specification is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and can be transformed into various forms without departing from the gist thereof. For example, the following modifications are also possible.
In the above embodiment, the
In the above embodiment, the
Further, in the above embodiment, the number of
Further, the material constituting each member in the above embodiment is merely an example, and each member may be composed of another material. For example, in the above embodiment, the
Further, in the above embodiment, the
