気液セパレータ56は、上タンク半体61の上壁61cと、カップ状のセパレータ形成部材87と、セパレータ形成部材87内に取付けられた隔壁88と、上部配管85の一端部85aとから構成される。
セパレータ形成部材87は、上タンク半体61の上面61eに取付けられた環状のフランジ部87aと、フランジ部87aの内周縁から立ち上げられた周壁87bと、周壁87bに形成された段部87cと、周壁87bに接続された壁部87dとから一体に形成されている。
上タンク半体61の上壁61cにおいて、セパレータ形成部材87のフランジ部87aの内側には、上方に膨出するタンク膨出部61fが形成され、タンク膨出部61fに、上部配管85の一端部85aが貫通するとともに取付けられている。
隔壁88は、その周縁部がセパレータ形成部材87の段部87cにセパレータ形成部材87の内側から取付けられている。これによって、気液セパレータ56内は、上流室91と下流室92とに分けられる。隔壁88(図6も参照)の上面88c(即ち、下流室92の底面)は、上タンク半体61の上面61e(即ち、上流室91の底面)に対して傾斜している。また、上面88cは水平面に対しても傾斜している。これにより、下流室92に浸入した液体燃料は、上面88cの一端に集められ、後で詳述する第2通気孔88bから上流室91に落下するので、キャニスタ64(図5参照)に移動しにくい。
隔壁88には、縁が上方に突出するようにバーリング加工された貫通穴88aが形成され、この貫通穴88aに上部配管85の一端部85aが挿入されている。貫通穴88aにバーリング加工を施すことで、貫通穴88aと上部配管85との間を液体燃料が通りにくくなる。
上部配管85の一端部85aの先端は、開口した状態にされるとともに、一端部85aの先端面85jは、セパレータ形成部材87の壁部87dに当接される又は近接配置される。
上タンク半体61の上壁61cには、燃料タンク51内と上流室91内とを連通させる第1通気孔61gが開けられている。また、隔壁88には、上流室91内と下流室92内とを連通させる第2通気孔88bが開けられている。また、上部配管85において、セパレータ形成部材87の壁部87dと隔壁88との間に位置する部分である下流室突出管部85eには、一対の第3通気孔85f,85fが開けられている。第3通気孔85f,85fは、一端部85aの軸直角方向に並ぶように形成されている。
上記した第1通気孔61g、第2通気孔88b及び第3通気孔85f,85fを設けることで、気液セパレータ56に、燃料タンク51内の蒸発燃料を流す流路となる蒸発燃料通路94が形成される。即ち、蒸発燃料通路94は、燃料タンク51の内部側から順に、第1通気孔61g、上流室91、第2通気孔88b、下流室92、第3通気孔85f,85f及び上部配管85の一端部85aからなる。
気液セパレータ56では、蒸発燃料通路94に液体燃料が浸入した場合でも、上記した第1通気孔61g、第2通気孔88b及び第3通気孔85f,85fの配置等を工夫して、液体燃料の進行を阻止し、キャニスタ64(図5参照)への流入を防止している。

以上の図4、図6及び図7に示したように、鞍乗型車両としての自動二輪車10は、燃料タンク51が、燃料タンク51の上部に配置された給油口83及び複室構造の気液セパレータ56を備える。気液セパレータ56よりも下方には、燃料タンク51内の気化燃料を吸着するキャニスタ64が配置され、気液セパレータ56とキャニスタ64とが配管としてのチャージ配管66で接続されている。
燃料タンク51は、乗員用のシート17の下方に配置され、気液セパレータ56は、給油口83の上端よりも下方に配置される。チャージ配管66は、気液セパレータ56にて、燃料タンク51内から流れ出る気化燃料の流れの最も下流となる室としての下流室92にて接続され、気液セパレータ56の上端よりも下方の空間でキャニスタ64へ配索される。
この構成によれば、シート17の下方の空間で給油口83の上端よりも下方に効率的に気液セパレータ56及びチャージ配管66を配置することができる。

軸線85gを通って直線97に直交する直線を99としたときに、上記した角度αは、90°よりも大きいから、第2通気孔88bは、第1通気孔61gに対して直線99よりも遠くに配置される。また、前後延出線96に対して直線98はβだけ傾いているから、例えば、第3通気孔85f,85fが前後延出線96上に位置する場合に比べて、第3通気孔85f,85fは、第2通気孔88bからより遠くに配置される。これらのことから、第1通気孔61gから液体燃料が気液セパレータ56内に浸入しても、液体燃料が第2通気孔88b、第3通気孔85f,85fに到達しにくい。また、直線98と第2通気孔88bとは、重なることがない。

この構成によれば、第1通気孔61gと第2通気孔88bとを離すことで、液体燃料を、第1通気孔61gから第2通気孔88bへ流れにくくして、キャニスタ64に流れ込みにくくできる。
上記所定角度αは、90°以上である。この構成によれば、第1通気孔61gと第2通気孔88bとをより遠くに離すことができる。

図11は、第2実施形態の気液セパレータ102を示す断面図である。第1実施形態と同一構成については、同一符号を付け、詳細説明は省略する。
燃料タンク101は、上タンク半体104と下タンク半体(不図示)とを合わせて接合されている。
上タンク半体104の上壁104cの上面104eには、上下二室の複室構造とされた気液セパレータ102が設けられている。
気液セパレータ102は、上タンク半体104の上壁104cと、カップ状のセパレータ形成部材111と、セパレータ形成部材111内に取付けられた隔壁88と、セパレータ形成部材111及び隔壁88を貫通する上部配管112の一端部112aとから構成される。
セパレータ形成部材111は、第1実施形態のセパレータ形成部材87(図7参照)に対して上部配管112の一端部112aが貫通する貫通孔111aのみ異なる。貫通孔111aは、セパレータ形成部材111の周壁87bに開けられている。
貫通孔111aに挿入された上部配管112の一端部112aは、貫通孔111aの縁に溶接、ろう付け等により接合される。
上部配管112は、上タンク半体104の上面104eに沿って延び、上部配管112の一端部112aが、貫通孔111aを貫通して内部に挿入された後に上方に屈曲し、隔壁88の貫通穴88aに挿入される。
気液セパレータ102内は、隔壁88によって上流室115と下流室92とに分けられる。
隔壁88(図6も参照)の上面88cは、上タンク半体104の上面104eに対して傾斜している。また、上面88cは水平面に対しても傾斜している。
上部配管112の一端部112aの先端は、開口した状態にされるとともに、一端部112aの先端面85jは、セパレータ形成部材111の壁部87dに当接される又は近接配置される。
上タンク半体104の上壁104cには、燃料タンク101内と上流室115内とを連通させる第1通気孔61gが開けられている。また、隔壁88には、上流室115内と下流室92内とを連通させる第2通気孔88b(図7参照)が開けられている。また、上部配管112において、セパレータ形成部材111の壁部87dと隔壁88との間に位置する部分である下流室突出管部85eには、一対の第3通気孔85f,85f(一方の第3通気孔85fのみ図示)が開けられている。
上記した第1通気孔61g、第2通気孔88b及び第3通気孔85f,85fを設けることで、気液セパレータ102に、燃料タンク101内の蒸発燃料を流す流路となる蒸発燃料通路116が形成される。
即ち、蒸発燃料通路116は、燃料タンク101の内部から順に、第1通気孔61g、上流室115、第2通気孔88b、下流室92、第3通気孔85f,85f、上部配管112の一端部112aからなる。
気液セパレータ102では、蒸発燃料通路116へ液体燃料が浸入した場合でも、上記した第1通気孔61g、第2通気孔88b及び第3通気孔85f,85fの配置等を工夫して、液体の燃料の進行を阻止し、キャニスタ64(図5参照)への流入を防止している。

上部配管112は、燃料タンク101の外部に配置され、一端部112a、第1延出部112b、第2延出部112c、第3延出部112d及び他端部112hを備える。
第1延出部112bは、気液セパレータ102から車幅方向一側方(詳しくは、右側方)斜め前方に延びている。第2延出部112cは、第1延出部112bから屈曲して前方に延びている。第3延出部112dは、第2延出部112cから屈曲して車幅方向他側方(詳しくは、左側方)斜め前方に延びている。他端部112hは、第3延出部112dから下方に屈曲してフランジ101aの貫通穴(不図示)を貫通するとともに、その貫通穴の縁に固定されている。他端部112hには、フランジ101aの下方で下部配管74(図5参照)が接続される。
上部配管112は、平面視では、給油口83の周囲を迂回している。
このように、上部配管112を、燃料タンク101の外部に配置することで、組付けが容易になり、組付工数及びコストを削減することができる。

また、本発明は、自動二輪車10に適用する場合に限らず、自動二輪車10以外も含む鞍乗型車両にも適用可能である。なお、鞍乗型車両とは、車体に跨って乗車する車両全般を含み、自動二輪車(原動機付き自転車も含む)のみならず、ATV(不整地走行車両)に分類される三輪車両や四輪車両を含む車両である。
