Description
The present invention relates to a process for the production of organic electroluminescent devices.
Organic electroluminescence elements (hereinafter referred to as “organic EL elements”) are also called organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and are used for various purposes such as lighting and displays. In particular, illumination using an organic EL element has been attracting attention in recent years because it can generate good surface emission.
The organic EL element has, for example, a protective layer made of a transparent electrode, an organic layer such as an organic light-emitting layer, an electrode, and a protective material (for example, a sealing material) in this order from the side close to the transparent base material. It can be manufactured by forming (see, for example, Patent Document 1). However, in this method, when an attempt is made to produce a small organic EL element, the organic layer, electrode, protective material, etc. may have to be designed small. For this reason, it may be difficult to accurately arrange (paste) electrodes, protective materials, and the like on the organic layer. And if arrangement | positioning precision, such as an electrode and a protective material, falls, peeling etc. may arise from the part which shifted and bonded, and durability of the organic EL element obtained may fall.
Therefore, a technique described in
In the technique described in
In the case of trying to widen the portion involved in light emission as much as possible, that is, the light emitting layer, for example, a technique described as a conventional technique in
In addition to an organic layer such as an organic light emitting layer, the organic EL element includes a plurality of layers such as a pair of electrodes and an adhesive layer for attaching and fixing a protective material. And these layers usually have different stiffnesses. Therefore, for example, when cutting by applying a blade or the like from the outside of the protective material, the organic layer, the protective layer, or the like may be cracked due to a difference in cutting resistance due to a difference in rigidity of each layer. In particular, when cracks occur in these layers, the performance of the obtained organic EL element, such as a decrease in durability and light intensity, may be deteriorated.
Here, from the viewpoint of achieving good durability, the thickness of the protective layer obtained by cutting the protective material is preferably as thick as possible. By using as thick a protective material as possible, the amount of oxygen and moisture permeation to the organic light-emitting layer and the like covered with the protective material can be suppressed, and performance degradation of the resulting organic EL element can be prevented. Therefore, when forming the organic EL element, it is preferable to form a protective layer that is as thick as possible by using a protective material that is as thick as possible.
However, the greater the thickness of the protective material, the greater the stiffness. Therefore, the cutting resistance increases as the thickness of the protective material is increased from the viewpoint of obtaining good performance of the organic EL element. As a result, although the protection performance by the protective material is enhanced, the cutting resistance as described above is increased at the time of cutting, and cracks are easily generated in each layer. Thereby, the performance of an organic EL element will fall.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to provide is to provide a method for manufacturing organic EL elements that have good durability.

Hereinafter, a form (this embodiment) for carrying out the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the thickness of each layer shown in the drawings is appropriately enlarged or reduced for convenience of explanation. Accordingly, the relative thickness of each layer may not necessarily be the thickness shown in practice.
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of an intermediate body 10 (organic EL element intermediate body) of an
The
The
The organic
Here, in the intermediate 10, a plurality of the organic
The
The
The sealing
Here, normally, the
Further, the thickness D of the sealing
Grooves 6 (concave portions) are formed on the surface of the sealing
As described above, from the viewpoint of durability, ease of manufacture, and the like, it is preferable to prepare the
However, in the
The depth d of the groove 6 (see FIG. 1) is not particularly limited. However, the depth of the
Further, the width W of the groove 6 (see FIG. 1) is not particularly limited. However, if the width W of the
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the
Here, whether or not the

The width of the missing portion 7 (corresponding to the width W in the intermediate body 10) is not particularly limited, but is usually shorter than the width of the
Moreover, although the groove |
Further, since the lacking
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the
Next, a method for manufacturing the
FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing a method for manufacturing the
Then, the
The direction in which the sealing
Next, the
Here, cutting conditions such as a cutting method and a cutting device are not particularly limited. For example, examples of the cutting method include a method of cutting the
The
Furthermore, in producing the relatively large intermediate 10, the high adhesion accuracy required for producing the small
The
As mentioned above, although the content of this embodiment was demonstrated, the manufacturing method of the organic EL element of this embodiment, its intermediate body, and an organic EL element does not have a restriction | limiting in the said content at all, It can implement by adding a change suitably. . That is, in addition to the above-described modification example, other modifications are possible.
For example, the layer structures of the
Furthermore, in the above example, the
Moreover, as the kind of the sealing
Furthermore, in the present embodiment, for example, “formed on the
In the illustrated example, a plurality of organic
Furthermore, although the groove |
Moreover, as a manufacturing method of the
Furthermore, the formation method of the recessed part formed in the sealing
In the above example, the
Next, the present embodiment will be described more specifically with reference to examples.
<Preliminary test>
First, as a preliminary test, the correlation between the thickness of the sealing
As a test sheet of Reference Example 1, a laminate of an aluminum foil and a PET film was produced. This laminate corresponds to the sealing
The test sheet was produced as follows. First, an adhesive (two-component reaction type urethane adhesive) was thinly applied to the polished surface of an aluminum foil (manufactured by Toyo Aluminum Co., Ltd.) having a thickness of 30 μm. And the PET film of thickness 25 micrometers was stuck with respect to the application surface. Next, the adhesive was solidified to produce a laminate of the
Next, a thermosetting adhesive was applied to the aluminum foil surface of the laminate using a dispenser so as to have a thickness of 20 μm. The thermosetting adhesive used is an epoxy adhesive in which bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA), dicyandiamide (DICY) and an epoxy adduct curing accelerator are mixed. Although this adhesive is cured by heat, the components hardly volatilize during heating. Therefore, the thickness at the time of application is almost the same as the thickness after curing.
By the above method, a test sheet in which the adhesive layer 4 (
In addition, the test sheet was stored for 100 hours in a constant temperature and humidity chamber at a temperature of 85 ° C. and a relative humidity of 85%, and the rate of reduction of the light emitting area when the organic EL element was peeled off after storage was evaluated. In this evaluation, when the peeled portion was less than 5% of the whole, “◎” was evaluated, when it was less than 30%, “◯” was evaluated, and when it was 30% or more, “Δ” was evaluated.
また、厚さを55μm(このうち、接着層4の厚さは20μm、アルミニウム箔5aの厚さは10μm、PETフィルム5bの厚さは25μm)に変更したこと以外は参考例1と同様にして試験シートを作製し、切断性及び封止性能を評価した(参考例2)。さらに、厚さを125μm(このうち、接着層4の厚さは20μm、アルミニウム箔5aの厚さは30μm、PETフィルム5bの厚さは75μm)に変更したこと以外は参考例1と同様にして試験シートを作製し、切断性及び封止性能を評価した(参考例3)。
The thickness was changed to 55 μm (of which the thickness of the
As shown in Table 1, when the test sheet was thinned, it was found that the cutting property was good (that is, easy to cut) (Reference Example 2 with respect to Reference Example 1). On the other hand, it turned out that sealing performance will become favorable if a test sheet becomes thick (reference example 3 with respect to reference example 1). From these results, it was found that by setting the thickness of the test sheet to about 75 μm, the balance between the cutting property and the sealing performance is excellent.
< Reference Examples 1A and 2A and Comparative Example 1>
Next, the durability of the
First, in the same manner as in Reference Example 1, a laminate of an
And the adhesive agent was apply | coated uniformly on the surface of the
And it arrange | positioned so that the application surface of a thermosetting adhesive and the transparent base material 1 (resin film) with a thickness of 125 micrometers may oppose. Subsequently, the pressure roll was closely sealed at a pressure roll temperature of 120 ° C., a pressure of 0.5 MPa, and an apparatus speed of 0.3 m / min to obtain an integral product. And this monolith was dried under vacuum of 100 Pa or less for 12 hours. Furthermore, it moved to a nitrogen atmosphere with a dew point temperature of −80 ° C. or lower and an oxygen concentration of 0.8 ppm, and was dried for 12 hours or longer until the moisture content of the thermosetting adhesive was 100 ppm or lower.
By the above operation, the
Next, the
Here, it can be considered that as the length of the
Further, in the same manner as Reference Example 1A except that the depth d of the formed
Further, an intermediate of Comparative Example 1 was produced in the same manner as Reference Example 1A except that the
As shown in Table 2, the length of the
The shorter the length of the
<実施例3〜5>
<Examples 3 to 5>
An intermediate 20 is formed in the same manner as in Reference Example 1A except that the encapsulating
The form of the formed lacking
The degree of the missing
Further, the length of the
Further, the length of the
As shown in Table 3, it was found that the longer the missing rate, the shorter the length of the
Based on Table 2 and Table 3 above, the durability of the organic EL device obtained by cutting the intermediate having the missing
