本実施の形態に係る超音波シール方法は、超音波シール装置(以下、シール装置1とする)で使用される。そして、シール装置1は、図1の下図に示すように、吸収性物品の連続生産ラインを搬送される吸収性物品の基材を重ねた連続ウエブ30に対して、連続ウエブ30の搬送方向に間隔をおいて複数のシール部Sを形成する装置である。
先ず、パンツ型使い捨ておむつを例に挙げて、本実施形態の吸収性物品に係る連続ウエブ30について説明する。
次に、シール装置1について説明する。図4は本実施の形態に係るシール装置1を示す断面図(図9のI−I線の矢視断面図)である。図5はシール装置1の回転ドラム5及びその内部構造を示す図である。
図7はシールユニット10が連続ウエブ30を挟持している様子を示した概略図である。
ところで、超音波ホーン8のサイズ(長さ)は、経年的な摩耗や温度変化による伸縮によって、変わり得る。そして、超音波ホーン8の長さが変化してしまうと、その固有振動数も変化することになる。そして、固有振動数が変化してしまうと、超音波発生器9が発する超音波周波数が、当該固有振動数と合わなくなる不都合が生じ、連続ウエブ30のシール不良等の問題が生じ得ることとなる(詳しくは後述する)。
図8は、保持部52の内部構造を示す拡大図である。保持部52は、内部に第一弾性部材71と第二弾性部材72を備えており、第一弾性部材71及び第二弾性部材72の支持部70にアンビル14が固定されている。第一弾性部材71及び第二弾性部材72は、回転ドラム5の幅方向、すなわち、回転中心線O−Oに沿う向きに並んでいる。そして、保持部52は、揺動駆動部により揺動してアンビル14を超音波ホーン8に対し接離するように移動させ、アンビル14と超音波ホーン8とが接触する接触位置においてアンビル14と超音波ホーン8が連続ウエブ30を挟持する。
次に、シール装置1の動作について、図1〜図6、図9、図10を用いて説明する。図9は、シール装置1の動作状態を示すイメージ図である。図10については、後述する。
超音波発生器9に周波数調整(チューニング)機能が備えられていることについては既に述べたが、かかる周波数調整はシール装置1の動作中に実行される。周波数調整が実行されるタイミングについては、図9において、角度位置BTで示している。
上記においては、シール装置1に設けられている6つのシールユニット10のうちの一に着目して、その動作について説明したが、ここでは、6つのシールユニット10の各々がどのように動作するか、つまり、6つのシールユニット10に係る動作の関係性について、図10を用いて説明する。図10は、6つのシールユニット10の動作を説明するための説明図である。
前述したとおり、本実施の形態に係る超音波シール方法においては、シール部Sを形成する処理において超音波発生器9が超音波ホーン8に対し超音波を発し終えてから(角度位置B2)、該超音波ホーン8による次のシール部Sを形成する処理において超音波発生器9が該超音波ホーン8に対し超音波を発し始めるまで(角度位置B1)の間に、超音波発生器9が該超音波ホーン8に対し発する超音波の周波数を調整する周波数調整工程を実行することとした。より具体的には、超音波ホーン8とアンビル14が連続ウエブ30の挟持を解除してから(角度位置A3)該超音波ホーン8と該アンビル14が次の挟持を行うまで(角度位置A2)の間に、超音波発生器9が該超音波ホーン8に対し発する超音波の周波数を調整することとした。そのため、シール部Sを形成する処理が実行される際に超音波発生器9が発する周波数と超音波ホーン8の固有振動数が合わなくなる問題を抑制すること(なるべく合うようにすること)が可能となる。

前記超音波ホーンは、前記アンビルと協働して前記連続ウエブを挟持した状態で振動し前記連続ウエブに前記シール部を形成する処理を、繰り返し実行することにより、前記連続ウエブの搬送方向に間隔をおいて複数の前記シール部を形成する超音波シール装置であって、
前記超音波発生器は、前記シール部を形成する処理において前記超音波ホーンに対し超音波を発し終えてから該超音波ホーンによる次のシール部を形成する処理において該超音波ホーンに対し超音波を発し始めるまでの間に、前記超音波発生器が該超音波ホーンに対し発する超音波の周波数を調整する周波数調整工程を実行し、
前記連続ウエブは回転部材の外周面に巻き付いた状態で該回転部材が回転することにより搬送され、
前記超音波ホーン及び前記アンビルを有するシールユニットが前記回転部材の周方向に沿って等間隔に複数設けられており、
前記超音波ホーン及び前記アンビルの一方の部材は、前記回転部材の外周面に備えられ、他方の部材は、前記一方の部材に対し前記連続ウエブを挟んで接離可能に備えられ、
前記シールユニットが前記回転部材の回転に伴って回転して所定の第一角度位置に至った際に前記他方の部材が前記一方の部材に当接して前記連続ウエブの挟持を行い、前記シールユニットが所定の第二角度位置に至った際に前記他方の部材が前記一方の部材から離れて前記挟持の解除を行い、
前記シールユニットが前記回転部材の回転に伴って回転して前記所定の第二角度位置から前記所定の第一角度位置へ向かう途中の所定の第三角度位置に至った際に、前記周波数調整工程を実行することを特徴とする超音波シール装置。
