Description
The present invention mainly relates to a semiconductor light emitting device in which a laterally feeding type semiconductor light emitting element is mounted on a mounting substrate.
A light-emitting diode (LED) generally includes an n-type semiconductor layer, a light-emitting active layer, a p-type semiconductor layer sequentially laminated, and a pair of electrodes for injecting current into the photo-semiconductor laminate It is the composition which has. Electrons injected from one electrode into the n-type semiconductor layer and holes injected from the other electrode into the p-type semiconductor layer recombine in the active layer, and the energy required for this recombination is light (and heat). ). When a nitride semiconductor such as GaN (gallium nitride) is used for the optical semiconductor stack, the LED emits ultraviolet light or blue light, and can emit white light by using a phosphor.
Such LEDs can be classified into a vertical feed type and a lateral feed type depending on the configuration of the electrodes. The vertically fed LED has a configuration in which electrodes are formed on both sides of the optical semiconductor stack, that is, the surface on the n-type semiconductor layer side and the surface on the p-side semiconductor layer side. The laterally fed LED has a structure in which an electrode is formed on one surface of the optical semiconductor stack, that is, one of the surface on the n-type semiconductor layer side and the surface on the p-side semiconductor layer side. Specifically, for example, a region where the p-type semiconductor layer and the active layer are removed to expose the n-type semiconductor layer is formed on a part of the surface on the p-type semiconductor layer side, and the surface on the p-type semiconductor layer side is formed. The electrode is formed on the surface of the p-type semiconductor layer and the region where the n-type semiconductor layer is exposed.
Patent Document 1 discloses a method of efficiently mounting a vertically fed LED on a substrate using an electric field or the like. According to Patent Document 1, a mounting substrate is immersed in a solvent in which a plurality of fine LEDs each having a side of several tens of μm are scattered, and an electric field gradient is formed corresponding to a position where the mounting substrate is to be mounted. It is said that fine LEDs can be simultaneously mounted in a single process.

FIG. 4H is a plan view showing the

With reference to FIG. 5, the manufacturing method of the
As shown in FIG. 5A, the
The
As shown in FIG. 5B, when the
In this way, the

As shown in FIGS. 6A and 6B, the

As a result, the
Thus, the

FIG. 9A to FIG. 9D are cross-sectional views showing a part of how the

Thus, the
10A and 10B are a plan view and a cross-sectional view showing the LED element 142 (a part of the LED device 103) fixed (or mounted) on the mounting
As shown in FIG. 10A, the
When the
Since the
11A and 11B are plan views showing a modification of the
As shown in FIG. 11A, the
When the
Alternatively, the
When the

As mentioned above, although the form for implementing this invention was demonstrated, this invention is not restrict | limited to these. For example, the first wiring member may be formed on the back surface instead of the front surface of the support substrate. The mounting substrate on which the first wiring member is formed on the back surface could be manufactured by using a general through via wiring substrate manufacturing technique. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that other various modifications, improvements, combinations, and the like can be made.
