Description
The present invention relates to an optical fiber manufacturing technique typified by a silica glass optical fiber, and in particular, an optical fiber preform (optical fiber preform) for making an optical fiber bare by drawing, and an optical fiber with a connector. The present invention relates to a fiber preform and a method for drawing the preform.
In general, an apparatus as shown in FIG. 11 is widely used as an apparatus for manufacturing a silica glass-based optical fiber. This optical
In manufacturing an optical fiber by such an optical fiber manufacturing apparatus, a preform (optical fiber preform) 12 that is the basis of the bare
By the way, among various optical fibers, special optical fibers such as polarization-maintaining optical fibers, holey fibers, and multi-core optical fibers have characteristics that cannot be obtained with ordinary optical fibers that simply have one core. Various developments and commercialization are already underway. Since these special optical fibers have a complicated internal structure, they are often manufactured by a manufacturing method different from that of a normal optical fiber, particularly by a different method for drawing.
For example, in the case of a polarization-maintaining optical fiber, two holes are provided on both sides of a preform having a core at the center, and a rod called a stress applying part is inserted into the hole, and drawing is performed while drawing a vacuum. A method for producing a polarization-maintaining optical fiber having stress applying portions on both sides of the core is known (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
Further, in the case of holey fibers, there is known a method for producing holey fibers having holes by providing holes at desired positions of a preform and drawing the holes while applying pressure to the holes (for example, patents). Reference 2).
Furthermore, in the case of a multi-core optical fiber, it is known to manufacture a multi-core optical fiber having a plurality of cores by packing a plurality of rods having a core in a quartz tube and drawing while drawing a vacuum (for example, (See Patent Document 3).
On the other hand, in addition to the special optical fiber as described above, the optical fiber having a simple structure such as a single mode optical fiber, a multimode optical fiber, or a dispersion shifted optical fiber can be manufactured at a low cost and a large preform. In order to achieve this, there is a case in which a core material is inserted into a quartz tube and drawn while being evacuated (see, for example, Patent Document 4).
Thus, in the production of an optical fiber, during the drawing of a preform (optical fiber preform), the inside of the preform is often pressurized or depressurized (evacuated), that is, pressure adjustment is often performed. As a specific method for drawing while adjusting the pressure in this way, conventionally, drawing is performed as shown in FIG. 13 using a
That is, as shown in FIG. 12, in the
By the way, in drawing, the preform is heated to a high temperature of 2000 ° C. or higher. Therefore, when the
Therefore, in order to adjust the internal pressure of the preform base material effective part, when attaching a connector for connecting the pressure adjustment pipe to the dummy pipe, it is strongly recommended that heat be applied to the connector as much as possible during drawing. Although desired, conventionally, it has been difficult to effectively reduce the heat applied to the connector without increasing the size of the connector or the length of the dummy tube.
The present invention has been made against the background described above, and in order to adjust the internal pressure of the preform base material effective portion at the time of drawing, a connector for connecting a pressure adjustment pipe to a dummy pipe is attached.

The rear end portion of the optical fiber preform effective portion 43 (the right side in FIGS. 1 and 2: the end opposite to the drawing side) has a
In this embodiment, the
Furthermore, each
D11=D0 ・・・(1)

In the present embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the relationship between these diameters is determined as follows.

The
In the actual drawing using such a drawing
That is, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, in the
More specifically, first, regarding the radiant heat, the radiant heat from the optical fiber preform
As for heat conduction, heat due to heat conduction from the optical fiber preform
Therefore, combined with these actions, the heat from the optical fiber preform
In the present embodiment, the outer diameter D11 of the first
As described above, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, both the outer diameter and the inner diameter of the
Here, only the first
FIG. 4A shows a diameter change pattern corresponding to the pattern of the embodiment shown in FIGS. That is, this is a pattern in which the outer diameter and inner diameter of each unit dummy tube decrease from the front end side to the rear end side of the
D11> D21 (8)
D12> D22 (9)
S1> S2 (10)
D12=D22 ・・・(12)
Next, FIG. 4B shows a pattern in which the outer diameter of each unit dummy tube decreases from the front end side to the rear end side of the
D11> D21 (11)
D12 = D22 (12)
S1> S2 (13)
In this pattern, the expression (13) is necessarily satisfied by satisfying the above expressions (11) and (12).
D11=D21 ・・・(14)

D12 <D22 (15)
S1> S2 (16)
In this pattern, the expression (16) is necessarily satisfied by satisfying the expressions (14) and (15).
Here, in any of the patterns of FIGS. 4A to 4C, the cross-sectional area of each unit dummy tube decreases from the front end side to the rear end side of the
4A to 4C show the diameter change patterns for one diameter changing portion, but the
Furthermore, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the end surfaces of the adjacent unit dummy tubes are brought into contact with each other at the joining portion (welding portion) of each unit dummy tube, and the end surfaces are welded to each other. It is not always necessary to weld the end faces to each other, and among the two adjacent unit dummy tubes, the end of one unit dummy tube is inserted inside the end of the other unit dummy tube and welded. Also good. A typical example in that case is shown in FIGS. 5A to 5C with respect to a joining portion (welding portion: corresponding to the first
In the case of FIG. 5A, the outer diameter D21 of the
In the case of FIG. 5B, the outer diameter D21 of the
Further, in the case of FIG. 5C, a portion near the rear end portion of the

Further, in each of the above examples, a plurality of unit dummy tubes having different outer diameters and / or inner diameters are arranged in series in the
In the example shown in FIG. 6A, the outer diameter and the inner diameter of the

In the example shown in FIG. 6C, a taper whose inner diameter increases from the front end side to the rear end side between the front
Furthermore, FIG. 7 shows another example of the

That is, in the case of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the rear end surface of the dummy portion 49 (for example, the rear end surface of the
Specifically, in the case of FIG. 8A, the
In this case, for example, as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the
In the example of FIG. 8A, the diameter change portion of the

Examples of experiments in which an optical fiber preform for drawing according to an embodiment of the present invention is actually used for drawing (Experimental Example 1 of the present invention, Experimental Example 2 of the present invention) and conventional optical fiber preforms for drawing are described below. An experimental example (comparative experimental example) in which line drawing was performed using, is shown.

In Experimental Example 1 of the present invention, the temperature of the connector could be suppressed to 180 ° C. or lower, and since this temperature was lower than the heat-resistant temperature of the fluororesin, continuous drawing could be performed.
[Invention Example 2]

Reform was used. Note that the length of the dummy part and the material, number, outer diameter, and inner diameter of the unit dummy tube constituting the dummy part are all the same as in Experimental Example 1 of the present invention.
