Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing an organic electroluminescence (hereinafter also referred to as “organic EL”) element with a sealing member.
In general, as shown in FIG. 17, the organic EL element with a sealing member is formed on a surface of a
However, the organic EL element has a short life and has a drawback that light emission performance such as light emission luminance and light emission uniformity is significantly deteriorated compared to the initial stage after a certain period of time. Such deterioration of the light emitting performance is caused by moisture generated inside the sealing
In
As described above, in general, when sealing an organic EL element, the
However, in the case where the

On the other hand, the surface treatment method using plasma under atmospheric pressure includes a direct method in which gas discharge is directly generated between an electrode and a material to be processed, and an excited active species by discharge between a power electrode and a ground electrode. And an indirect method in which a gas flow containing the gas is ejected onto the surface of the material to be processed. The indirect method requires a higher output because the processing rate is lower than that of the direct method, but there is no risk of damage to the material to be processed due to charge-up or arc discharge, and a nozzle that ejects a gas flow. By changing the shape or adjusting the gas flow rate, a local surface treatment corresponding to the shape of the material to be processed and the limitation of the processing range can be performed. This indirect plasma surface treatment method and apparatus used in the method are disclosed in, for example,

The presence of electrical conductors (eg, electrodes) on the substrate disrupts the plasma discharge state, resulting in unevenness of the plasma treatment surface or even plasma treatment of unscheduled portions;
Since the area of the high-voltage electrode for discharge is almost the same as the area of the substrate to be processed, the location of the generated active gas species (for example, ozone) is lost, and this active gas emits light that is not scheduled for plasma processing. There are problems such as damage to layers.

In addition, this method has a problem that a liquid repellent portion that is not originally required for the organic EL element must be formed between the light emitting portion and the non-light emitting portion, which complicates the process.
This invention is made | formed in view of such a prior art, and removes a part of organic EL layer easily, suppressing the damage to the organic EL layer of a light emission part in the manufacturing method of an organic EL element. ≪C.
≪C. Anode >>

For example, gold, nickel, manganese, iridium, molybdenum, palladium, platinum, or the like can be used in combination or singly. The anode can also be selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, nitrides, selenides and sulfides. Moreover, what formed the said metal into a film as a thin film of 1-3 nm so that light transmittance may not be impaired on the surface of ITO with favorable light transmittance can also be used as an anode. As a film formation method on the surface of these anode materials, an electron beam evaporation method, a sputtering method, a chemical reaction method, a coating method, a vacuum evaporation method, or the like can be used. ≪D. Anode surface treatment, anode buffer layer >>
By treating the surface of the anode 2 (surface treatment), the performance of the overcoated layer (adhesion with the anode substrate, surface smoothness, reduction of hole injection barrier, etc.) may be improved. Examples of the treatment method include high-frequency plasma treatment, sputtering treatment, corona treatment, UV ozone irradiation treatment, and oxygen plasma treatment.
When a mask or the like is used in this processing, only the surface of the
The
As an example of a compound having good adhesion to the organic EL compound, a compound having a partial structure having a strong interaction with the organic EL compound is desirable. As the partial structure, for example, a structure that appropriately includes an aromatic ring, an alkyl chain, fluorine, or the like that can be expected to have a hydrophobic interaction is desirable. Moreover, as an appropriate ionization potential, although depending on the kind of organic EL compound to be used, 4.5 to 6.0 eV is preferable, and 4.8 to 5.5 eV is more preferable.
The
It is difficult to bond a sealing member to this fluorocarbon thin film or to connect an external power source. Therefore, it is preferable to remove the fluorocarbon thin film at the bonding location of the sealing member and the connection location of the external power source.
Plasma is generated by applying (outputting) a radio frequency (RF) voltage at an appropriate power level in the apparatus cabinet. Although the reaction temperature varies depending on parameters such as output, gas flow rate, and processing time, it is preferable to adjust the film thickness appropriately with good reproducibility by providing a temperature adjustment function in the apparatus cabinet. The contact angle of the surface of the
When the anode buffer layer is produced by applying a wet process, spin coating, casting, micro gravure coating, gravure coating, bar coating, roll coating, wire bar coating, dip coating, The film can be formed by using a coating method such as a spray coating method, a screen printing method, a flexographic printing method, an offset printing method, and an ink jet printing method.
The compound that can be used in the film formation by the wet process is not particularly limited as long as it is a compound having good adhesion to the organic EL compound contained in the anode surface and its upper layer, but the anode buffer that has been generally used so far Is more preferable. Examples thereof include conductive polymers such as PEDOT-PSS, which is a mixture of poly (3,4) -ethylenedioxythiophene and polystyrene sulfonate, and PANI, which is a mixture of polyaniline and polystyrene sulfonate. Further, an organic solvent such as toluene or isopropyl alcohol may be added to these conductive polymers. Moreover, the conductive polymer containing 3rd components, such as surfactant, may be sufficient. The surfactant is, for example, selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, alkylaryl groups, fluoroalkyl groups, alkylsiloxane groups, sulfates, sulfonates, carboxylates, amides, betaine structures, and quaternized ammonium groups. Surfactants containing one kind of group are used, but fluoride-based nonionic surfactants can also be used.

As the solvent of the solution, a compound having a hydroxyl group and water are preferable, alcohol and water are more preferable, and water is particularly preferable. These can be used individually by 1 type or in combination of 2 or more types. When these compounds are used as the solvent, for example, when the compound having a Si—O bond is a silicate, the solvent solvates cations such as the silicate ion and the alkali metal ion, thereby Acid ions can be separated from each other, and a homogeneous solution can be obtained.
As the solution, a silicate solution is preferable, an aqueous solution of the alkali metal salt of the silicate is more preferable, and a dilute aqueous solution of water glass is particularly preferable. In these solutions, particularly when the solvent is water, silicate ions can be separated from each other as described above. In addition, when the alkali metal ion and water are contained in the solution, the alkali metal ion is strong because the alkali metal ion is a hard acid and water is a hard base according to Pearson's Hard Soft Acid Base Principle. Solvated (hydrated) so that the silicate ions can be present stably in the solution.
Moreover, the said solution is an alkaline solution, The pH in the room temperature (25 degreeC) is 9-14 normally, Preferably it is 10-13. If the pH is too high, the
When the alkaline solution is left in the atmosphere at normal temperature and pressure, the carbon dioxide gas contained in the atmosphere dissolves in the alkaline solution. As a result, the pH of the alkaline solution gradually decreases, although it is very gradual. In order to prevent this, when the alkaline solution is stored for a long time, it is preferable to block contact with the atmosphere by storing it in a highly airtight container.
The concentration of the compound having the Si—O bond in the solution (or silicate ions derived from the compound in the solution) is usually 20% by mass or less, preferably 0.001 in terms of Si atoms. It is -15 mass%, More preferably, it is 0.01-3 mass%, More preferably, it is 0.05-1 mass%. When the concentration is high, the time required for the contact step can be shortened, and when the concentration is low, the reproducibility and control of the contact step is facilitated and the contact step is stabilized. On the other hand, if the concentration is higher than this range, it may be difficult to reproduce and control the contact process, or it may be difficult to remove the solution from the surface of the
The concentration of the alkali metal ion in the alkaline solution is preferably 0 in terms of the Si atom equivalent concentration of the compound having an Si—O bond (in the solution, when ionized to a silicate ion or the like). 0.1 to 10 times, more preferably 0.25 to 2 times. When the concentration is in this range, the silicate ions can be stably present in the solution with the alkali metal ions as counter ions of the silicate ions.
The viscosity of the solution is preferably a viscosity (about 0.1 to 100 centipoise) that allows the
The alkaline solution may further contain a surfactant. When a surfactant is used, the surface tension of the alkaline solution is lowered, and the alkaline solution is likely to be wetted by the
Specifically, a nonionic surfactant and / or a carboxylic acid surfactant is used as the surfactant.
Examples of the nonionic surfactant include polyoxyethylene alkylphenyl ether, polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, and acylglycerin. Examples of the carboxylic acid surfactant include aliphatic monocarboxylate (fatty acid soap). Alkanoyl sarcosine and the like.
These surfactants may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
The contact step is preferably performed by immersing the

The temperature of the solution is preferably 10 ° C to 90 ° C, more preferably 25 to 60 ° C. If the temperature is higher than this range, the time required for the contact process becomes too short, it becomes difficult to reproduce the surface treatment of the
What is necessary is just to set suitably the time which the said contact process requires, considering the solution concentration, the temperature in a contact process, etc.
Since the contact step can be performed under atmospheric pressure, a complicated operation such as use of a vacuum chamber is not required.

The value of the work function is a value measured in the atmosphere by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy.
According to the surface treatment method (α), the smoothness of the treated surface of the
Further, when the

<Washing process>

When this heating step is provided, the effect of the surface treatment of the anode 2 (for example, improvement of the light emission efficiency of the organic EL element 5) is further enhanced.

As the light-emitting compound used for forming the light-emitting layer, low molecular light-emitting compounds and polymer light-emitting compounds described in Hiroshi Omori: Applied Physics, Vol. 70, No. 12, pp. 1419–1425 (2001) Etc. can be illustrated. Among these, a polymer light emitting compound is preferable in that the device manufacturing process is simplified. Moreover, although both a fluorescent light emitting compound and a phosphorescent light emitting compound can be used, a phosphorescent light emitting compound is preferable in terms of high luminous efficiency.

A discharge tube made of a dielectric material that defines a gas flow path between the front end and the discharge tube, and arranged upstream and downstream of the gas flow path along the discharge tube. A surface treatment apparatus having a power supply electrode and a ground electrode that cause gas discharge in the discharge gas under a nearby pressure can be used.

On the other hand, in the present invention, since the plasma irradiation is performed by the remote method, problems such as the solvent exhaust and the damage of the anode do not occur, and the damage to the

The plasma by the remote method may be irradiated perpendicularly to the in-plane direction of the
As shown in FIG. 5A, when the plasma by the remote method is inclined with respect to the in-plane direction of the organic EL layer 3 (inclination angle α (α <90 °)), the
Therefore, from the viewpoint of narrowing the damaged

(E-1) :( E-2) :( E-3) = 1: 4: 5 (monomer charge weight ratio) and V-601 (Wako Pure Chemical Industries) as a polymerization initiator in a dehydrated toluene solution The product was dissolved in the product and subjected to freeze deaeration, followed by vacuum sealing and stirring at 70 ° C. for 100 hours. After the reaction, the reaction solution was dropped into acetone to cause precipitation, and reprecipitation purification with toluene-acetone was further repeated three times for purification. Here, acetone and toluene used were distilled high-purity grades (manufactured by Wako Pure Chemical Industries). Further, the solvent after the reprecipitation purification operation was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography, and it was confirmed that a substance having an absorption of 400 nm or more could not be detected in the solvent after the third reprecipitation purification. In this way, impurities in the phosphorescent polymer compound were removed. Thereafter, the phosphorescent polymer compound was vacuum dried at room temperature for 2 days. It was confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (detection wavelength: 254 nm) that the purity of the obtained phosphorescent polymer compound exceeded 99.9%.
